No he wasnt. The myth of the stretch big being new is a crock. Schrempf bird robinson chambers perkins malone olajuwan all had immaculate mid range or three point ability.
Vin Baker was so ahead of his time. You know he was raw if he was one of the first athletes to get signed to Jordan Brand. I bought my son the Jumpman Pro Strongs in the Seattle colorway a few years ago.
Bruh!!! I was just talking about Vin Baker the other day when someone was talking about Ben Simmons getting back on track. I was telling them how Vin was a monster then got depressed and never bounced back.
I followed Vin Baker for 30 years, since his days at Hartford. His profile was in a Basketball Almanac I used to read. He put up BIG numbers in College and it led to him being drafted out of a small school. He was a Top 5 power forward for 5 years and won plenty of games, with him as the go to guy.
I remember when analyst were all over him when he was walking up the court against the Knicks and a damned near 40 year old Patrick Ewing beat him down the court. At the same time he was constantly gaining weight and ESPN ran a segment of him frying chicken. Even with his constant weight gain he was still an above average starting power forward. I am glad he made a come back in life!!
He felt like God abandoned him ??? What a cop-out !!! Blaming God for your bad decisions, take responsibility for your life.I don't think he was considering God while having an nba life-style,folks wait till they're at the bottom, then seek God.Not when they were on top.
You should do Harry Giles and Jonathan Bender EDIT: Nvm damn boy you got a lot of players I had in mind covered. Just subbed to your channel man this is great content learning about what happened to all these players.
He looks like he still got that jumper though. God bless Vin Baker one of the truly underrated greats ppl forget about. Another great video made by J.C.
JC I love your work I need that instrumental beat you have playing in your videos I listen to it because it's soothing but you should do one about Memphis state star David Vaughn
This does not only happens to NBA players or famous people it happens to anyone it happened to me I'm at this point of life I had everything cars money not as a rich person but I had it good but ever since my ex left me I started drinking and I went down the hill I'm still recovering I don't recommend drinking if you want go ahead but take it from what you see from alcoholic people I was one I lost everything I'm now living with my parents and I feel nasty I don't have no money I verily have to pay my phone bill or eat something decent alcohol like drugs will make your life a living hell. 🥺😩 God help me 🙏
He felt like the first pick the Bucks got right in a long time, then Robinson. Imagine if Baker had kept it together and still been in Milwaukee in 2001. But it is true. One of the hardest thing about your 20s is to learn to not think you've made it and to use your off-time properly. I now have a mentality of never feeling set and it's paying off since I stay driven, but I didn't back then.
So glad I came across this channel learning about nba players that I never knew about.. keep up the good work Stunted growth you are very much Appreciated
The 2002 Boston Celtics were a fun team led by Paul Pierce and Antoine Walker that almost made it to the NBA Finals. They were also ahead of their time with stretch 4s and 5s shooting threes. Kenny Anderson, another "Stunted Growth", was actually shining in his role on the C's-- then Danny Ainge blew the team up and traded for Vin Baker. Of course Vin stunk up the joint (and that trade was a domino effect that buried the Celtics until Ray Allen and KG arrived), but it was hard to stay too mad at him, because we all knew of his tragic substance abuse and depression problems. Sad... he really did have a window there as one of the most talented power forwards.
Vin Baker was a beast and his AJ vindicate is probably the only non retro Jordan I could rock with, not to wear in the street but to at least hoop in😂😂
I loved Vin as a Sonic. I was one of the few that was excited to see my team get him in the Shawn Kemp trade (loved Reign Man too). I thought that it was a lateral move, except Shawn didn't want to be here. Vins first few seasons were great, but yeah....The stupid strike ruined him. Good on you for getting it together Vin. You're not forgotten.
True story, when Vin Baker played for the Knicks I met him. Was the coolest NBA player I've ever met, and I met several. Took pictures, signed autographs, and kicked it with me and my boy Erv before they played the game against the Pistons. Him and Othello Harrington.
Getting a prominent station back within the organization he started with? He's quite fortunate he knew people from his time in the NBA who were willing to work with him and trust his regrowth from addiction. Hopefully he never relapses.
He was really good. Someone his size, could possibly drink 20 pints with a meal and not be fall over drunk. He should have realized he needed help once he graduated to Listerine consumption.
At least the man was always on the court, played 80 games almost every yr that's a whole season,, unlike AD be lucky if he gives you 35 games a yr, I really belive AD the biggest thief if sports history FOR REAL should been a bank robber,, no way you can get hurt every yr and your not even a physical player
Comedian Jim Jefferies "Non-drinkers always have the same argument: 'I don't like the taste of it.' --- NOBODY DOES! WE DRINK BECAUSE WE F---ING HAVE TO! Nobody's ever had a shot of tequila and been 'Oh, that's lovely, I think I'll have that instead of pudding next time.'"
I remember Vin’s 1st season in Seattle, he was killing it. But it seemed like the 1998-99 lockout hurt him and Shawn Kemp’s career.
factz...it's eerie how they declined around the same time and were traded for each other. they were never really the same after 2000 imo
They were addicts and needed the healthy distraction of pro ball
Makes a whole lot of sense and great points @classicbasketballdvds
Like Dana Barros in the last episode, Vin was super ahead of his time and would've florished in the current NBA
No he wasnt. The myth of the stretch big being new is a crock. Schrempf bird robinson chambers perkins malone olajuwan all had immaculate mid range or three point ability.
@@lostone9700 I second that and continue your list. Chris Webber, Sam Perkins, Glen Rice, Danny Manning, Elton Brand, Antoine Walker........
Don’t leave Bill Laimbeer out.

I always knew about the alcohol addiction but never knew he battled depression! Can’t wait for the next one 🔥
They go hand in hand smh
Playing at such a high level and high expectations can do that too anyone
Vin Baker was one of my fav players, esp the 1st few years in Seattle. He was unreal in 97-98. Never knew he had anxiety
Bruh!!! I was just talking about Vin Baker the other day when someone was talking about Ben Simmons getting back on track. I was telling them how Vin was a monster then got depressed and never bounced back.
Thanks for Vin Baker. One of my favorites growing up.
Loved his book. I wish he would’ve stayed in Milwaukee with Big Dog and Ray Allen!
Man,I remember that line-up-another BIG-THREE.
Yes indeed. They were something special.

Vin just deserves flowers for playing all 82 at 40 mins a game for all most 3 straight seasons. Today you can barely get 60-65 games out a star player

Can't imagine how Vin Baker's game could've evolved had he stayed sober. He was AD before AD. But... life happens.
There's a picture of Vin Baker and I at Summer League from last year. Great all around person.
Love his comeback story.
Anthony Davis?
I can't say ad but he would be like Chris webber ish type.. big time

Well said and well done... Proud of Uncle Vin's comeback story!

David Thompson (The first MJ/Dominique Wilkins)
Connie Hawkins (The first Dr.J)
Still to this day The only NBA Player i met in person ,I was a kid still cherish that Day dude was cool all smiles just a Good vibe .
One of Connecticut’s greatest players that got caught in the sauce. Has a daughter that plays ball as well and she’s nice.

As a Seattle fan, he was one of my favorite players of that period, and his issues really hurt to see.

That alcohol shit is no joke.

I was so mad when Sonics traded Kemp, my all-time favorite player, for this nigga😥🤦🏾♂️

Vin Baker and Shareef Abdur Rahim would've been great if they played in this era... 😬
I remember him and that alcoholic addiction, and now he owns a Starbucks, hope everything is OK 👍🏿

@@adgee5401 Well, yes, I used to be able to drink 10 pints a day and be relatively functional.
I thought Roy Tarpley and Derrick Coleman were the archetypes for the modern 4. Both also had their growths stunted. Maybe do a profile on these two.
Roy Tarpley was such a special player. You RARELY ever hear his name mentioned. He was a baller. So was DC.

Vin Baker “the latte maker” went from multimillionaire to Starbucks barista.
Absolute bucket with the Bucks. Thought him and Big Dogg would flourish.
gerald green bro!!
He did Gerald Green already

He's done Shawn Kemp already
So fn sad man
Stop hating on erb. It not what his problem was. It was just alcohol. Hater😂

Very few players today play at less than 100%, especially with the amount of money invested in them.
IT HAPPENS ALL THE TIME & ITS HAPPENING RIGHT NOW GUARANTEE U 4TO6 YEARS AFTER YOUR AVERAGE NBA BALL PLAYER HAS RETIRED HE IS BROKE

Vin was not good and over paid, what the hell y'all talking about
I hate the taste of liquor 🥃 I don't see how people enjoy the harsh taste and sting most drink to fit in with other people
Comedian Jim Jefferies "Non-drinkers always have the same argument: 'I don't like the taste of it.' --- NOBODY DOES! WE DRINK BECAUSE WE F---ING HAVE TO! Nobody's ever had a shot of tequila and been 'Oh, that's lovely, I think I'll have that instead of pudding next time.'"
The sensation and effects highly override the taste, plus the taste is acquired. Many drinks taste good to a lot of drinkers.
Man takes the first drink, first drink takes the second drink, second drink takes the man.
