Makes me laugh how folk these days make such a fuss about the likes of Adele - it’s almost as though no other singers existed before her……..this is superb!
Saw Elkie Live a couple of years ago, she was amazing. I went with my Daughter, who said it was one of the soundtracks of her childhood. Have always loved Elkie and this song is one of my favourites
Absolutely top drawer ! Her voice is like a top end sports car just coasting along, every now and then you get to hear the power and you just know there’s a lot more in there 🙏
I used to quietly weep when I heard this song as a youngster. Nearly 45 years later, its impact is still the same as it was back then. A truly great song sung by the forever wonderful Elkie Brooks.
I was born in 73....I love thinking back to the songs my dad played in the car when we went out Sunday runs, Elkie Brookes was one singer we loved listening too, really takes me back ❤❤❤
Hello Tony, I came here as this song is mentioned in extracts from the new autobiography of singer Sinéad O'Connor. Happy New Year from Ireland xx 1st January 2022.
@@johnrosenbaum8730 apologies as didn’t mean to press the thumbs down icon! It was written by a guy called Peter Allen who wrote for a number of artists but had a career himself in Australia. The lyrics were by Carole Bayer Sager. I saw Ellie perform twice and have to say she was brilliant but doubt if she will ever tour again as she is now 78 years of age.
How come such a beautiful voice and singer has escaped my notice for so long? When I first heard 'Running for the Future', I was sure it was Bonnie Tyler!
Baby was Peter Allen's sister, the song writer's autobiographical story (the great Carol Bayer Sager's co-wrote it). Peter Allen's career/life much later became a Broadway Musical "The Boy from Oz" starring fellow Aussie Hugh Jackman! Melissa Manchester excelled in those alto-range mellow yet emotionally powerful money notes that led to all those great hits. She was a backup singer for Barry Manilow in the early 1970s.

Yes Elke Brooks is amazing but Adele is too
It's not that, it's just that you're older, one day they will be too
@@relaxingwhitenoises757 I think Elkie is fab. I don’t consider myself old at 29.
@@Jake-jr2zh was I talking about you though? Or was I replying to the initial poster? Jeez
The modern artists really can not hold a candle to the oldies, remember todays lot have auto tune and have to strip to get to the top.
Todays singers need to listen to the greats from the past like this
For those of us that know and appreciate music from this special era she was an icon unsurpassed
❤❤❤
Definitely, a unique voice
Amazing underrated singer , 80 years old and still singing fantastically good , love you Elkie ❤❤❤❤
This kills me every time I hear it. Reminds me of my soul mate who passed unexpectedly. Until we meet again 🙏
So sorry for your loss ❤
Could listen to her songs all day long.
One of the Greatest unique female singers in the business ❤❤❤

One of a Kind🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Not only is she tremendously talented, she is also a decent lovely person. Always loved her songs.
No music from 60’s, 70’s and 80’s has yet surpassed!
It's certainly better than a black bloke shouting baby girl
Tone of this woman , like butter. X..❤
It's about time she was given a lifetime achievement award by the Brits, but it wont happen as she's not mainstream or 'cool' enough for them to do it
Beautiful ❤
Went to see Elkie and her band at Theatre Royal Brighton last night. What a performance. What a voice. She certainly “has it all.”
Yes I heard she was amazing.
Makes me tear. And I’m a strong man. Beautiful.
As close to perfection as you’re gonna get!
This song is so true,if only people would listen,I’m in my late 60’s and still keeping it all in ,I want to cry out loud 😢
If you want to cry out loud then you go right ahead , keeping it in does you no good
I can't think of a single thing wrong with this song and this performance. Sublime.
Ellie brooks greatest ever song in my opinion and that musical arrangement is just outstanding, it really is
I love the analogy of life being a circus, relying on some clown who lets you down. Stay strong and don't let them see they've hurt you
Went to see her sunday she is amazing you must go and see still got it at 79
After hearing this, I can't listen to any other version. She has the perfect voice for this song.
I agree noone sings this song like ELKIE.....
I've heard a few versions. Elkie's is the best I've heard so far.

The best version.
A beautiful version of a great Peter Allen song.

Absolutely spot on description ❤
I loved this song. Her voice is timeless. Brilliant song 👋👋👋👋
Such emotion in her voice, Elkie is one of the most underrated performers , why are her songs not covered? Cos no one can do them justice I think
Best version!!!
voice of an angel

Second only to No More the Fool.
Got to see Melissa perform this at the Great Peace March send off 3/1/86. Elkie does a great cover of this classic.
Elkie had a Uk hit with this before Manchester.
saw her with robert palmer in vinegar joe
I actually came here because of schitts creek when Roland is blasting this in the motel. Decent song though.
Check out the Melissa Manchester recording which is the one used in 'Schitt's Creek'. :)
Beautiful song and how adele would like to sound lol
Interesting tremolo in her high voice.
Jane Lee.... this one is for you. xx
DAVID CAN YOU TURN THAT MUSIC DOWN PLEASE?
We do but no one listening
Don’t think we should hold our feeling 🤔 or hide them mental health
Don't forget this was the 70s . You didn't discuss your mental health especially if you were male - it was seen as being weak
Fantastic vocalist 👏 along with Alison moyet well before Adele came along
💏💃
David, could you turn that down, please?
Hey she kinda looks like Teela Na.
Uncle John xxx M
Torhild Nigar, you clearly plagiarised when you wrote I Evighet. The first line of the chorus of that song is identical to this one.
reminds me of pinning my middle finger on room door....
