I think Per suggested that Christian's main problem was transitioning between harsh and clean vocals, as opposed to him being an outright bad singer. Lots of vocalists struggle with that but improve as time goes on. Trivium's Matt Heafy is an example of someone whose live singing really suffered when he was doing a lot of screamed vocals, but with time he improved markedly. The same was true of Christian, who I recall did some great live stuff with Solution .45 a few years after Per said this.

Totally agree. Moreover, it seems the current singers sing while vocally following the music. Christian is able to sing against the music's sound so harmoniously. It's fantastic. I really am sad I can't see this live ever again unless they reunite.
I used to hate Growling vocals...and I still don't prefer them...bust this guy is freakin' amazing. I've never seen someone do a growl like then and then burst into a flawless powerful voice in one breath. Scar Symmetry was awesome, I'm not so sure if I'll like them without Christian being on the mic.
those looking for Christian Alvestams bands should check out Miseration,a super group he and Jani Stefanovic Started. they have a new album which is much heavier than their first and much,mcuh heavier than anything SS probably has done. Check them out :D

@Altairograph I agree that christian is amazing when it comes to how well he can transition between growls and clean vocals, but i could never get over how deep, powerful, and demonic mike can sound while at the same time he can deliver the most natural, pure, and beautiful singing voice. and also, not saying anything negative about christian in anyway, alot of his cleans are supported by his own backing vocals on scar's records, which may contribute some to how amazing they sound.

The screams are spot on, it's the clean vocals that just need to change. I don't think the guy has the same range as Christian so needs to adapt rather than trying to imitate
