  • It's the 16th June 2022 and the rivers are finally open again! I decided that my opening gambit would be on the Leeds & District ASA stretch of the River Swale at Asenby, chub and barbel fishing.
    The plan was to get into the river in the afternoon and trot a stick float down the shallow glides before retreating either to another venue in the evening or moving up the river to deeper slower water and sitting it out on the tip rod.
    Trotting maggots by day and fishing static pellet by evening/night is usually the best way to approach these fish.
    Tune in for some rod bending action and a 3ft Twitch that goes horribly wrong!
    If you are interested in any of the products I use or feature in the videos, I have been compiling a list of those in my amazon store.

      Thank you Karl for the sub and your kind words. Fishing doesn't have to be complicated, simple is often best, location, timing, feeding and presentation are the key ingredients. Plenty of barbel fishing still to come this season😉

    Bit bored at work, what better way to pass the time than to watch a fishing video. Really do like that stretch or swale but struggled quite a but did manage a fairly decent barbel which I “ stalked “ I saw one hiding under a branch from on top of that high bank

      Thanks Mark, I know my channel varies a bit so what appeals to one doesn't necessarily appeal to another - the match lads hate it when I put pike fishing up and I probably put more match stuff up recently than my other sessions but I try to add in the pleasure stuff I do as well, I enjoy all aspects of coarse fishing.

      200 mile round trip for the Bradford book? I live in Sheffield and have got the Leeds book which is further North than Bradford No1 and none of it is a 200 mile round trip. It's 60 mile from Sheffield to York, and York is way past Leeds and Leeds is way past Bradford. The Bradford book is nearer for us 👍

      @HOOKEDFishingChannel  2 года назад +1

      Yes I have, I put 2 pints through that second swim. I've been back an worked out there movements and to be honest I'm moving away from hemp in my barbel fishing because for one, it's expensive and two, feeding pellet does such a good job of getting them grubbing around, a couple of pouches in for each fish, keeps them interested.

      It's always difficult to gauge from the take how big they are as they all go off like rockets but the heavy gear usually holds so I think it would have been a high single if not a double. Plenty more fish in the river🐟😉

    Hard luck with the barbel. You just don't know what the barbel swam into. There are some nasty snags and rocks about that seem to be able to cut through the line.

    • @HOOKEDFishingChannel
      @HOOKEDFishingChannel  2 года назад +1

      I suspect you're right that I got cut off, that being said it did go at the weakest point in the rig right by the loop knot, never mind I'm modifying the approach.

    im watching laughing, because im not the only one has these type of mishaps.... loop to loop is absolute shyte.. i was using this and losing every bonus fish i was hooking.. and i am absolutely obsessive with hooklengths..if they dont look 100% theyre binned start again.... but anyway.. i watched on here the Bob Nudd 3 turn surgeons knot for joining hooklength to mainline... problem solved that bonus fish i hooked i can now give em some proper welly.. and the hooklength holds fine.. please try it.. .. if its good enough for world champ... .. great vid

    • @HOOKEDFishingChannel
      @HOOKEDFishingChannel  2 года назад

      I know the surgeons knot bud. I simplified the rig for the the Yorkshire rivers. I've never really had an issue with loops in any of my fishing and if you want to use quick change type swivels like korum do where you push the anti tangle sleeve over it then loops are a must, I use that kind of setup on the Trent for a variety of reasons and landed countless big barbel but I may make that alteration you suggest on these intimate Yorkshire rivers. The reality is, I was just too late to the rod.

    • @stevewilliams5428
      @stevewilliams5428 2 года назад +1

      @@HOOKEDFishingChannel I've been using the Korum quick change swivel with the anti tangle sleeve(bolt and run kit) for a while now. I have noticed lately though that the hook length 'crook' is pretty tight on the 10lb hooklink and may crush the line when first rigging up. I now force the 'crook' wider to stop line crushing and double loop the hook over the crook before pushing the sleeve over. After a couple of lost fish I've altered the set up even more so have NO KNOTS in the rig. I don't use the swivel any more but use a float stop of the right diameter to fix the bolt/run rig and still use the anti tangle sleeve... Then direct tie an eyed quickstop hook to the mainline. I can change the length of the hook section by moving the float stop anytime I want. Only works with a light feeder/lead... which is fine on the Swale but not on the Wye/Trent. Hope this makes sense.

    • @HOOKEDFishingChannel
      @HOOKEDFishingChannel  2 года назад

      I understand what you're saying Steve, so I guess you're not using a knotless knot on the hook but rather a palomar or similar and then whipping a separate hair on so that you fish straight through?

    • @stevewilliams5428
      @stevewilliams5428 2 года назад +1

      @@HOOKEDFishingChannel Korum do a loose, eyed quickstop hook, or at least they used to. The hair is made of what looks like very very fine braid so is very supple. Just had a look and they still do them..." Korum barbless Hookhairs with Quickstops ". The hair is very fine and sometimes doesn't last in rough fast water but they are cheap enough. So yes... just one knot in the rig to tie the hook to the mainline, I use a palomar so as to jiggle it around a little to offset the hook point.

    • @HOOKEDFishingChannel
      @HOOKEDFishingChannel  2 года назад +2

      Got it mate, I can whip my own hair on using kryston silkworm 👍. If you double the float stops up, it will be more secure against a heavier lead, probably still wouldn't go above 3oz with it though without a buffer bead.
