What I did with a Mulberry Log

  • This old looking, gray and dirty brown log was given to me by a local subscriber along with some other choice wood species to enjoy. I picked this one first because I knew its ugly exterior was hiding some real beauty inside. When I made some initial cuts, I was far from disappointed! I knew I had a real diamond in the rough.
Here's a special shout out and hearty Thank You to John Gidman! I appreciate all the wood and I sure enjoyed meeting you!
Thanks very much to all of you for watching and subscribing! I appreciate your time, and I do my best to make that time spent watching my videos rewarding, or at least relaxing.
To submit photos of your work, email them to rhumphrey.woodworking@gmail.com and make sure to give me your permission to show them in a video if that's what you want. I'll still enjoy seeing what you've made even if you don't want your work shown (many don't)

Psalm 118:24 This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.
I find this verse personally helpful. I hope you do too. Our salvation through Jesus Christ is true on bright and dark days.

Good afternoon, Rod. I have a friend who uses the line, 'make something from nothing.' It is my guess, if I sent you a leftover bent, warped and split 2X4, an old wooden yardstick from a garage sale, three wooden pencils and a limb from a pine tree, you could make an atomic submarine on your lathe. This video was definitely worth the wait. Beautiful. Every day is a gift. Give thanks. Semper Fidelis

Where I grew up we had a lot of mulberry trees. They were planted to attract the birds away from the other fruit trees. Now I'm a woodturner but I don't have access. Nice wood and contrasts really well with the black walnut. Beautiful work.

Absolutely stunning ... to slice that log into boards, and then segments, in order to maximize the material is brilliant. The sheen you got on the finished product from the mulberry reminds me a bit of myrtle wood from the Pacific Northwest, which looks a lot like Tiger’s Eye when it is sanded and polished. Blessings ... 🌼🤗🌼

MARINE, This is an absolutely beautiful piece. The flashes are mesmerizing. The contrast is fantastic and goes together like apple pie and ice cream. I'm sure you're not the only wood turner who uses one, but you are the first wood turner that I have seen using a steady rest. The chips were flying and reminded me of chips that I have seen Abom79 create. I stumbled upon your channel today 23MAR22 and this is the second of your videos I have watched.
