Danny just has survival instinct. Whenever frightened, his heart rate lowers to make it easy to breathe quietly. Thus allowing him to hide.
That would actually be a very large issue. The heart rate and breath speeding up is to put more oxygen in the body as it's used up faster if your heart rate dropped as your fight or flight kicked in you wouldn't be able to fight or flight you'd just... Pass out.

Funnily enough a lot of people's hearts slow when under suspense. It depends how you mentally parse stress.

The Bongcheon-Dong ghost scared the shit out of me back when I was in middle school. One time during the lunch hour me and my friends of the time were in the gym sitting on the bleachers, they were packed and down on the gym floor people were playing some game. So my friends dared me (I dont quite remember the details) to read that story with the sound at max (with ear buds), so I did and when i got to the part where the ghost twists her neck backwards I apparently screamed really loud because the sound freaked me out. I felt quite embarrassed after because everyone in that gym heard me scream except for myself. That is the only time I have screamed out of genuine fear, and maybe it's good I didn't hear what I sounded like as I screamed. But I am still kind of curious as to what my scream sounds like. Anyways I've always had an issue with the sound of bones breaking after that incident.

I know I’m pretty late to comment on this, but I think Arin saying “nothing can scare me except the anticipation of being scared,” might also explain his fear of sustained sounds slowly increasing in volume because a lot of horror movies use those violins and stuff to increase suspense right before a jumpscare, so he’s probably subconsciously linking the sounds themselves to a horror movie.
I’m sure this has all been proven before, but I’m JUST NOW thinking about it and it all makes sense!😅

It’s more than that, horror movies use those sounds BECAUSE they’ve been proven to cause psychological distress in audiences. Tones like that create anticipation and fear in the brain, making them effective horror movie soundtracks

I know exactly the kind of fear he's talking about. It's hard to describe. The increase in volume is the scary part, because it ratchets up tension. It makes you want to hide or run....sends your brain into overdrive.
I don't really think it's a FEAR per say....more like one of those weird backdoors into our psyche.
I don't feel anything. And I'm extremely sensitive to sounds, I have Asperger's and certain sounds make me wanna rip my hair out they're so unpleasant.

I feel like the stories could have been geared more towards our boys. Like for Dan--something involving water and sea creatures would be terrifying. For Arin, something existential like turning into a lower life form and getting eaten might work.

3:20 140/75 indicates hypertension so he should probably get that checked out just to be safe if that's accurate and his normal blood pressure.
3:25 60-65 Bpm is fine for a relatively fit adult, if he was highly trained as an athlete it'd actually be as low as 40bpm, so basically Dan is a moderately fit average schmuck not a high performance individual.
3:33 I'm guessing that measures his oxygen saturation which should be between 96-99% which it is at within that range which means he's not currently suffering from a breathing disorder of some kind which is a good thing.
6:43 Arin's resting heart rate is also in normal range, but indicates a higher BMI than Dan slightly lower oxygen saturation is likely due to the size differences, but still not outside normal ranges so also not suffering from some sort of breathing disorder.
Bottom-line the generic off the internet monitoring devices say both the Grumps are relatively healthy, but Dan might have high blood pressure.
If they wanted to do sound they should have turned an 18.98 hertz frequency also known as the ghost frequency.
I didn't get Arin's fear by just hearing him describe it. But holy shit when Dan played that sound, I understood too well.

Dan's heartrate probably didn't sound any alarms and actually lowered instead of rising when he heard Arin's story of his father's severed head looking through the front door's peephole because Dan knew that Arin's father (severed head or still attached) would have respectfully rung the doorbell instead of scarily look through said peephole.

EMS here - using a pulse ox on an arm with a blood pressure cuff can throw off the reading because of the limited blood flow which is why the spo2 reading was low.
