Blame anglos for the reduction of speakers of these languages. They always impose their language by force and cruelty to others (like in Philippines, Antilles and Africa) and blame others of that while posing scandalized self righteous virtuous fellows as the charlatans they are. French, Belgians and even Germans, Dutch and Italians aren't too different from them either, these last ones couldn't grasp as much land as England and France so their harm is lesser but still terrible by themselves.
@@ludwigramirez4711 Unfortunately there's a big problem with elders & parents refusing to pass the language down to the children. They speak among each other in Cherokee, but will not do the same with children. These children grow up with no knowledge of their indigenous language. These languages must be taught to the next generation to survive and indigenous peoples aren't doing that.
She:kon! I am from Scotland and currently learning Kanien'keha. It is a very beautiful language, I hope to become fluent someday. Thank you for posting this great video!
Iroquoian languages were likely spoken over a much larger area of Northern Appalachia prior to European contact, and if the sheer distant between Northern and Southern Iroquoian is anything to go by, then these languages had a lot of time and geographic isolation to diverge from one another.
Two things can be true at the same time. China has engaged in cultural genocide and so has the US. This doesn't require a lot of effort or brainpower to realize.
I don't see why this is a "one or the other" kind of issue when the survival of both countries' indigenous minority groups is buckling under the weight of colonialism and imperialism from their respective oppressors.
Both. Both are bad. As well as any other nation that's suppressing minority languages or incentivices them going extinct, like France, Russia, Britain, Germany, etc.
@@anawkwardsweetpotato4728 I think it's moreso to highlight the hypocrisy of the US. US loves to blame China and be racist, but then at the same time, do the same exact shit. but you're right too though ^^
@@anawkwardsweetpotato4728 it happens in different ways. In the US it's "we don't care what you are, speak English or die". In China it's due to standardization or attempts to create 56 standard languages for the ethnic groups which endangers non-standard varieties
As a Cherokee speaker I'm so proud of seeing people interested in the revitalization of this beautiful language
Fun fact: the name for Canada is said to come from an Iroquois word, "Kanata", meaning "village".
They named Canada "Nothing There" i believe. lol
@@galaxyhurricane1594 That's another theory, but not as commonly accepted.
Wish this languages rise again.

I first heard the Mohawk language in Assassin's Creed III. The main character is named Rahtonhaké:ton but renamed Connor.

Andy really pulling through on the voicework here, always impressive.
This is one of my favorite language families. 💖 I especially love the sound of Kanien'keha. 😇
Unique languages!
Thank you and very courageous to pronounce all these languages by yourself for us, Andy!
Damn, these languages' phonology is hellish. I like it.
I’d love to see the reconstruction and revival of Susquehannock
