I'd like to point out to my fellow American viewers who might also be interested in joint US-French capabilities that a fair amount of French Navy pilots trainees are required as part of their flight certification course to train and live at NAS Meridian in MS for months to get qualified on US Navy processes and flying T-45s. Failing to do so will not certify them to fly under French Navy. Goes to show how important it is for French Navy to be as perfect as they can be in interoperability with the US Navy. This joint training has been around for decades and is rightfully so prided by all French Navy personnel. So you can imagine that these Rafales pilots landing on US carriers feel a bit like going home in a certain way. This is unheard of even in Europe we don't have this level of cooperation. FYI, F/A-18s are also routinely landing on Charles-de-Gaulle aircraft Carrier since it's been built to be fully interoperable with US hardware. Cheers from France folks.

What is the point lmao. For example, the UK has 2, yes 2 aircraft carriers. It is not nuclear-powered (some very big advantages in being non-nuclear BTW) or CATOBAR but that ensures that the UK does not experience a void in carrier capability every time an aircraft carrier goes into maintenance or a refit, like the french are experiencing right now with the De Gaulle. France wanted their carrier to be like one of the americans' and that ended up so darn expensive they could only afford one. They could've emulated some of the sensible choices the british made and they could have had 2 carriers as well.

Without the "Royale", the French navy so, which then defeated the English Royal Navy, which behaved before this defeat as a true dictator of the seas for the benefit of the economy and the interests of England (in the 18th century, finally in peace with its European neighbors for more than 20 years, France under the will of King Louis XV had been able to put a lot of its means to build a navy as powerful as that of England, the only Navy in the world at that time able to beat the Royal Navy), never without doubts the USA would exist today as an independent republic, or at least never since 1776.
The French Navy is also very closely linked by facts to the History of the USA, it is even the most important military player which ultimately allowed the creation of your free Republic.

Since the Brazilian Navy announced the disarmament of the aircraft carrier NAe São Paulo (ex-French aircraft carruer-Foch) in 2017, only two nations are capable, in 2020, of catapulting aircraft. These are the United States with the Nimitz-class aircraft carriers and France with the Charles de Gaulle.
By 2025 France will obtain a new 75,000-tonne aircraft carrier that will allow France to be the 2nd nation to benefit from the largest aircraft carrier behind the USA and their Nimitz classes.

The American top level people in this video are very polite, cause basically, the US pilots and aircraft carriers staff does not need to learn anything from French pilots, and US jets will never need to land on the French carrier given the endless ressources the US Army has (10 carriers vs 1 for France). This is all the more true since the title of the video is pretty misleading: although the title mentions US-French joint training, the journalist actually talks mostly about the US ship (kitchen, life on board, gym...), the French training being just secondary in the video. So bottom line it's a lot of PR, and while French pilotes absolutely needed this training on the US carrier (the sole French carrier was stopped for 1.5 year for mid-life maintenance, and landing & taking of are perishable skills), it was just an other day for US carriers staff. And if the journalist had done some work, she would have mentioned that French Navy is actually the only Navy in the world able to land and take off from US carriers, which is a real performance given the size of France compared to the USA, all the more since France produces its own jet fighters and airplane carrier, as well as nuclear subs, satellites, tanks, helicopters... :)

Like the time that she started laughing in the face of the French Pilot that she was interviewing when he said that US carriers were so much bigger than the Charles De Gaulle. The CBS journalist definitely missed the point about the reason for this mission. Viewers of this report were left wanting to see and hear more of the reason for this mission, not about the daily life of a sailor on board the carrier. As you stated before the reason for this mission became secondary to this reporter. In that case they should've re-titled the story "Typical look at life aboard an aircraft carrier".

I am afraid the reportage was formated for the US audience (basically to show the US military muscle), cause there was so much more to say, like the French Navy pilotes do part of their training in the US, while some few F-18 also landed on the French carrier in a recent past. Cause beside France & UK, no other country in the world can land airplanes on US carriers. Despite its relatively small size, France keeps an (expensive) home made aircraft carrier, with home made airplanes, and funy enough, I think the level of connexion between the 2 armies has reached a peak these days (French army needs US army basically, like logistic airplanes such as C17s for the Barkhane operation in Sahel), a dramatic achievement since after Irak dispute, the armies had stopped their collaboration :).

il ne faut pas oublier que les anglais nous ont plaqués à dunkerque , en refusant l' aide de la royal air force et que les belges ont capitulés en qq jours laissant nos pauvres soldats mal commandés dans une situation dramatique

    •  6 лет назад +3

France doesn't really have an army, they are good at baking pains aux chocolats but not at fighting. Their army is pretty poor. They have like 200 tanks

What a load of crap. Armies don't operate like they use to in the 40s. The french army is the first army in Europe with the UK which only has 156 tanks and they both work as part of NATO with the US and other smaller numbers. Please refrain from posting in the future.

Beau Goce Obviously, you know nothing about military facts. The number of Soldiers in an Army don't matter. The more important is equipment and training.
      For example :
      - During the WWII, 4 millions German Soldiers killed for 6 millions Soviet Soldiers killed.
      - During the Vietnam War, the killing ratio is 11 for one.
      - the Macedonian General Alexander, with only 40 000 troops defeated 500,000 Persians.
