Cara, I am so sorry for your loss, I remember well the pain of losing my mum. Please be kind to yourself and take each day as it comes - as others have said, there is so much to do at this time. I love your vlogs - you always have a refreshing, honest take on life, and I know sewing takes you to your happy place. The trousers look fabulous, as do all of your makes. Sending you lots of hugs and love. ❤❤
Cara, my deepest sympathy in the loss of your mom. it will be a rough go for a while. Your trousers are lovely. They fit beautifully. As someone else with plenty in the front and nothing in the back< I understand what a feat you've accomplished. Congratulations!
It's a privilege to live long enough to retire, not everyone gets there, sadly. I can recommend retirement, but I am not sure we ever feel we can afford to. Now I know I couldn't :-) I didn't get a choice, as I was made redundant 5 months before I reached state retirement age and nobody wanted to employ a 62 year old at the time. I have ordered an All Set to Sew box for January and am looking forward to delivery. It's a very tough time following a family bereavement. Be kind to yourself. You'll get through this and it will work out, but the sadness remains. Sending love
Bless you, I hope everyone works out for you, I'm looking forward to the next box too, I love the variety and the creativity I need to have to think of what to make
Sending love and hugs to you and Dad Cara… There are no words that any of us can say to ease the waves of sadness at this time. All we can do is to send the biggest hugs, all our love and keep you in our prayers. Be assured I am doing this. Take comfort in your sewing when you can. Hoping hubby is feeling very much better very soon. Take good care. Thank you for your lovely Vlogs💕🧵Xxx
Oh Cara, I haven’t been following blogs cos of Xmas prep and only just found out about your Mums death. I am so sorry to hear this. Please be kind to yourself. Give yourself a break from whatever is stressful including blogging. We will still be here and losing your Mum is so heart rending and awful. So much to organise and think about. A dress that doesn’t work out is the very least of your worries. Sending all love, Catherine x
Cara, sending hugs and continued prayers for you, your dad and family. We all understand this is a difficult and emotional time. Please know that we will be here for you and support your need to take time to heal and help your dad. Love the trousers! ❤🙏🏻
I’m not sure what day it is either! My husband got Covid, and then I did as well. Spent more than 48 hours in bed before going to the ER last evening. Bummer! Your attitude with the dress is remarkable!
Gosh I'm sorry to hear you are poorly, I hope you both feel better soon. I love to learn while sewing so new things and making mistakes is part of that x
It’s funny how a pattern will turn out different every time with different fabrics, I’ve experienced that too. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. I have experimented with using a woven for a stretch pattern and it turned out really well, so you just never know. I have been in your shoes trying to take care of my dad after we lost our mom. He was 86, and it was a real struggle. Be patient with him and yourself. There is so much change it’s so hard. Unless friends have been through it , they struggle to support you. I found there were days when I just didn’t have the brain waves to talk to anyone . Sewing really helped me cope. Take care.
Your upbeat, wonderful presentation on your videos is greatly appreciated.❤ I’m making a Southbank dress today. Finally! I’m probably the last sewer to do so. I’ve been hesitant because I’m a hippy pear shape and also a member of the No Butt Sisterhood. I graded 2 sizes up from my top to hips. I’m also tall so added 5 inches length. We shall see how it goes. I just did the sleeves now sewing up the sides. Take care❤
Sewing possibility for another time. Love Notions Chorus top and dress is an easy cowl neck pattern for knit fabric. Spending time with your dad will help beneficial to you both whether or not you get things sorted. Thinking of you and sending love and hugs. xxx
Oh Cara, please don’t ever apologise for being emotional. Considering it’s only been a month since your Mum died I think you are amazing to have carried on the way you have! I know you have said it brings you joy and helps keep your mind busy but as soon as that changed please know it’s ok to take a break - we won’t be going anywhere and will be here when you return 🥰
Dear Cara, you have done amazingly well. Please take care of yourself, there is just so much to do at this time. My husband passed away in August and I still have not done all the notifications. I just find it too difficult. You don't have to do everything at once. Hold your loved ones close 😘😘
Thank you so much, some of it we are completing as and when we get told stuff, it's such a lot. I'm sorry to hear about your husband. Lots of love to you too
Hi Cara, Im so sorry to hear you lost your mum, its very hard. I lost mine last year. i found sewing very cathartic over this period. hugs coming your way... xx
Take care of yourself and your Dad. There's no rush. Whenever you've time to vlog is OK. Don't worry about us viewer's, I certainly will be here Whenever suits you. Mind yourself.
We enjoy seeing your videos but totally understand that your dad needs you as he tries to adjust without your mom. We all have been there or will face a similar challenge at some point. I’m sorry for him, too…. Not at all easy to learn computer skills at his age! Like you, he’s sad and frustrated. Good luck to the teacher and student!
Oh, that's such a shame about the dress... I would have thought that would have worked for that pattern too just looking at it. Hopefully you can still make something nice with it 🙏. Hope all goes well with your Dad... I understand as going through that a bit with my Dad 💖😘
Being lovely and understanding to ourselves isn't always easy, is it Cara? Regardless of intent, this time of year is hard. Add the loss of a loved one (whether recent, for you or 13 years ago, for me), and we feel pulled in different directions and take on additional responsibilities. Let some things go without guilt or apologies - in life or in sewing. You are helping your dad adjust and that is where you need to be. xoxo
@@sosewmad It's not a comfortable feeling when parent-child roles reverse. I'm sure he's thankful you're there. When I went through the same adjustments with my mother-in-law, I could see it wouldn't be long before I would have to take over all of her administrative tasks. So I set much of it up so the transition to me would go smoothly. Power of attorney, my name on her accounts, etc. You, your gut instincts, and your heart will figure it all out. 💕🧡
Hi Cara. Love your makes but especially the Maison Fauve patterns. Do you think the tempête would look ok with just above the elbow sleeves? I have fat biceps which I usually get over but cutting the sleeve pattern down the length and adding in a one inch section. I then pleat this at the top to make the sleeve cap the same as it should be. I really don’t like shirt/blouses with long sleeves though. I’ve bought some of the Panche fabric in Cumin - it’s beautiful. I will make a wearable toile to test it though. Hope your 2025 is a good one. Thinking of you and your Dad.
Thank you, yes I think the tempete could have a variety of sleeve lengths, I also always think that if you know what suits you then you'll wear it well regardless of the original pattern design x

Thank you for the recommendation Laura I'll check that out xx
How about using some weights sewn in to assist the drape. Something like those small curtain weights small bead type thingies. Just a thought. 🙏❤️💜💙
That's a great idea, I think that would work but I've run out of time x

Thank you Rita it's hard to know where to be and when as he doesn't say what he needs. I'm kind of just going on my gut instinct x
