Do you have any resources showing best areas for high-speed internet? We’re looking to move either this summer or in 2023 and it seems to be the one factor we can’t find that’s important for us.
@@LivinginVermont can’t agree with you more. It’s not just the real property taxes but also the income and estate taxes that’s preventing us from moving to VT. We did not work hard and invest smart just so we can hand the government more money to waste! We visited VT last summer and fell in love with it but just can’t take the next step 😭
@@janethughes2775 totally understandable and very unfortunate. When you're raised somewhere you get used to it but it's still kind of ridiculous compared to other states. Better than California and New York isn't a major milestone...
@@LivinginVermont The idea of a $4,400.00 tax bill is a serious problem. If...someone decides to pay such a tax bill in retirement, they will most likey have little left to maintain the home. Adding the cost of heating, food, transportation, healthcare, insurance and utilities to this tax bill, simply results in poverty. Something needs to be done to lower property taxes in the Northeast.
Thank you Jacob this was really helpful! Im curious to know your advice on temporary housing - im looking to sell my house in Austin and buy in Vermont, but I expect i will need a few months before I get my next house. What do you recommend?
I'm glad you found it helpful! It will be much easier to sell than buy as there is such a Sellers market right now. If you don't need the money from your house in Austin I would recommend putting an offer on a home in VT before listing, or listing your home but making a clause that allows you to put a home under contract before closing... Or, if you do need the money maybe list it and try and find someone who will give a 2 or 3 month leaseback after closing so you can have the money but you are renting, either for free or a reasonable amount for some time so you can ideally put a home under contract. If that sounds too stressful you can look for a place to rent. Like housing, rentals are very scarce in VT at the moment, and especially reasonably priced ones. I don't really deal with rentals myself. If you want to talk more in detail you can send me an email or shoot me a text. I also would gladly refer you to a reputable agent from my brokerage in Austin if you would like. ~Jacob
Well, some states use title companies to close, others use attorneys, and some others use other ways to close. I'm not really sure what's the benefit of each I just know Vermont uses attorneys not a title company.
Making plans moving to Vermont from Bend, OR. I'd like to contact you soon. I really appreciate your videos Jacob. Thank you. Look forward to speaking with you. Cory Edwards
Hey Jacob I moved to Vermont last year and I'm building my own home in tinmouth I'm currently living in it.. (not totally finished yet) but I'm a real estate investor and and a Carpenter maybe we can work together do you have any experience with investors?
That's cool that you're building your own home! I'm honestly not very experienced with investors. Of course everyone starts somewhere and I'd be happy to work with you, but if you'd prefer to work with someone else I'd also just as happily refer you to another agent in the area. 🙂
3/6/2022 FYI, A GREAT DEAL OF THE DATA IN YOUR PRESENTATION NEEDS TO BE ADJUSTED ACCORDING TO THE GOVERNOR'S OFFICE IN MONTPLIER, VERMONT. FOR STARTERS, VERMONT HAS THE HIGHEST VACANT HOMES IN THE USA...MAINE IS SECOND AND NEW HAMPSHIRE IS THIRD! Concerned Northern Californian, prospective Vermonter.
Hey, I never mentioned home vacancy, I mentioned rental vacancy! Rental vacancy is very low due to high demand. Home vacancy is a lot higher in VT due to the fact that so many homes are 2nd homes for rich out of state people. That's what the vacancy means, in the Burlington video you saw, though I only mentioned rental vacancy which is very low. There is a huge demand for housing in VT, it's a crazy market but many of the buyers want a vacation home and it'll be vacant most of the year. Stowe for example has one of the top vacancies In the state. If you have any other data you think I have wrong I'd be happy to hear it! 🙂
Just bought a house last week, close in July. Thanks for these videos!
You're welcome! You should've bought with me though 😪
@@LivinginVermont you know what? Fair. I bought in Westminster and I’ll try and bring along everyone I know

Yes! I usually use these 2 sites:

We would love to retire in Vermont but the taxes are insane!
Yep, unfortunately our politicians love spending and giving away money!

It must be an east coast thing to involve lawyers in everything, I'm guessing? LOL
