The most requested topics on MOBOX Graphics is how to morph objects in after effects, how to morph shapes in after effects, and how to morph text in after effects. This is quite a large topic because you can morph PNG images in after effects or morph shapes in after effects. The technique for both of these things are very very different. In a lot of ways, how to morph an object in after effects (PNG image) is more of a how to reshape objects in after effects. This is because you need to use a tool that allows you to stretch objects in after effects. Reshaping objects in after effects is a very simple process to morph these png images / objects. Morphing shapes on the other hand can use the path tool in after effects to morph shape layers (circle to triangle or square to circle or square to triangle). Simple shape animation in after effects is a critical tool to have when working within AE. Adobe after effects shape animations is the pivotal way to add your creative touch to any project. Please keep this in mind.
Adobe After Effects 2017 (AE 2017) is a digital visual effects, motion graphics, and compositing application developed by Adobe Systems and used in the post-production process of film making and television production. Among other things, After Effects can be used for keying, tracking, compositing and animation. It also functions as a very basic non-linear editor, audio editor and media transcoder.
This is actually very important new feature in AE history. I needed it many years ago and this was the reason I was using a different application for a couple of projects.
Totally agree. We rarely do a "what's new in Ae" video but this one was special
This is something rubber hose helped to accomplish in previous versions, but only for lines, can't wait to use this feature the next time animating a character. Cheers for the tutorial.
It's so powerful!
This is very helpful, thanks!
I had no idea about this! Thank you! :)
Also puppet to null expretion can help, also copy the path of a new shape and paste it over the other shape with key frame and in the middle u can play with the pen tool and move points
If you want the nulls to snap to the points just reset the Transform rectangle position to 0,0
THANK YOU! I'm a beginner and was going mad trying to figure that one out.. :D
Very helpfull tutorial thanks a lot!!!
To get the corners to line up with the nulls you should reset the 'position' below the anchor point setting.
Hmm, I couldn't get this to work. I'll take a look again. Thanks!
I had the offset-problem for converted illustrator to shapes as well. Create a new group for your shape elemens (path, fill and stroke) and move them into this new group. Delete the initial group and create the nulls from within the new group. That way the nulls will appear exactly on top of your shape, preserving position.
I'm trying to make a plug and cord move in a 'S' curve and land in a straight line. When I did this example I made it with a star and the boxes were on the side if he star... way off. So this has to be something wrong or a bug. Great video, thank you.
Great tutorial !!
Thanks for the tutorial!
Glad you found it helpful!
This is so great. I have wasted so much time trying to recreate this function.
I know, I freaking love it!
Thanks
Good tutorial dude!
Thank you Eli
I got stuck, after pressing the Points Follows Nulls, I get 4 null layers and the following error "origPath.points(); is not a function, an expression was disabled as a result of an error". Do you maybe know what should I do?
Hello Mobox, The preset you use of null objects, is integrated in After Effects CC 2018?
Yes as a built in plugin. It may be exportable to older versions. I don't know.
Ooh! Awesome stuff. +btw change the 2017 to 2018 in the title. :) (not sure if it was a mistake of not)
Yoo! ;D
I have a practical use. Instead of using a beam effect we can use this. Useful for 3D
Amazing :o
Thank you Bluez!
It had to be so many years for such a feature?! I think Adobe has a list-to-do and gives these year by year, just to have update features going... Of course, this gives third party developers work (Mask Avenger) and this is not too bad...
But I'm done with this philosophy nowadays...
Yearly app versions, with minor new features...
Their software, their rules...but what about customers who pay?!)
Anyway...Really nice tutorial, life saver feature...
Yeah... it sucks, but I'm just happy it's here
To have nulls and points align, just zero the position and anchor point of the path, not the object. And you must see "Create Nulls From Paths Extended", from Jakob Wagner, look here: ruclips.net/video/DHLiE5xh13s/видео.html
I don't have ae2018 even ps 2018 I subscribed to the subscription I still don't have it
I miss the color change!
wasted my time....
