In addition to many surplus cans, I also have quite a few Harbor Freight 50 cal and 30 cal cans. They appear to be 100% identical to actual military surplus cans. My brother and I stocked up on HF cans when they had their 50% off sale earlier this year.

I use steel ammo cans for ammo storage. I never use plastic ammo cans for ammo storage.
Plastic cans will leak. A loaded plastic can lid will bow when picked up by the handle and leak.
I do use plastic ammo cans for storage and arranging various tools and small parts. Steel cans will take a drop or bang much better than plastic. If you need to bug out and you toss a steel can, it's all good. Toss a plastic can, and it will fail. Just don't cause an unintended detonation when tossing a steel can!

Idk if you guys know. Keep this in mind okay?
Harbor Freight sell two type of 50 cal metal ammo cans. Made in Vietnam and the other is Made in China. Most of the Vietnam made cans will have M2A1. Some Chinese will have the same thing. Now when I did my testing it seems that ALL THE CHINESE MADE one all leaked while the Vietnamese made ones are okay.
Now the 30 cal ammo can. They are usually Vietnamese made. These cans are a little shorter than your average milsurp 30 cal can.

I won't argue, but I'll 100% say this. I'll test every single steel ammo can on video that I personally have and there's not 1 single chinnese ammo can I have that will leak vs a Vietnam can not leaking. That's to say all this is true and I have " variations" of harbor freight cans... I don't believe there's 2 different steel ammo cans at my harbor freight, but maybe im missing something? I only have 3-4 dozens of them so who knows..

You have me wanting to test one of my large MTM boxes that I store magazines in. I'd have to get in a pool for that 🥶

@Lightning77AThiker if a plastic one has a chance, it would be a mtm!

@GunActivities365 I wish they would go ahead and make one the size of a footlocker. The two I have equal about that size.

Even if these aren’t as good as genuine military cans, they will still be better than just a cardboard box.
