Enjoyed your video Luke. I’m happy Rex are expanding routes, I’m over Jetstar with their cancelled & recently my big delayed flights.. Rex is my airline of choice now. Happy New Year Luke, safe travels…

Other then being cancelled due to weather (which I am fine with) Jetstar has never been an issue with me, however in saying that I much prefer Rex or Qantas

The reason they use the Dash 8 is because they also do charters/mining runs up north as well. After the aircraft arrives into Cairns it does other sectors and then goes back to Brisbane the next day.
It’s also got something to do with the subsidy that they get from the government for regional flying.

I think this is the only flight that services Brisbane to cairns direct operated by a turboprop Q400 amazing

Another great video. What are Brisbane Airport upto with frosting the windows in the terminal?. I noticed it too when I flew on the inaugural REX flight between Adelaide and Brisbane last October.

I have 0 clue why they would tint the windows…ruins the plane spotting experience for me

Thanks for a great video! You could be right about their reason for using the Q400 but it might also be because the Q400 is significantly faster than the 340, so the flight time is more comparable to the jet services that Qantas/Jetstar and VA offer between the two cities.

Apparently it’s to take advantage of a repositioning flight every week

It’s a positioning flight each week. Good way to make some revenue on what otherwise would be an empty positioning flight.

Generally airlines either advertise them or I find them by searching through websites

If the Saab 340 flew this route the flight would take between 3 hours and 4 hours depending on the tailwinds and the wind and how fast the plane goes and stuff so the Saab 340 is a bit slower than the Q400 so I understand why the Q400 would be used over the Saab more passenger capacity it’s faster and Saab only fits 34 passengers so Q400 is definitely a win on this route.
