Worked avionics maintenance in Air Force, thought about Navy before going in; but would have been tough to be confined and not outside much of the time. Hats off to the folks that deploy, work long hours at sea, and many times don’t get to spend time outside or just to themselves when deployed. Air Force flight line had some long hours, but when done with shift, had time away to have a few beers and hang out with family. Thank You to the thousands of Navy crew who sacrifice a huge perpetual time and family commitment to protect our country.
My son just got his orders to go to San Diego to be assigned to the USS Carl Vinson. He is going to be one of the yellow shirts on the deck.

missedinfo - I don't know the answer to your questions, because I didn't work on the flight deck. I saw the planes come and go from an observation deck about 10 levels above the flight deck.
It was awesome to watch the action from above!

Great video!! In my opinion the Tomcat was the best carrier fighter!! I do have one question, why are ALL carriers built the same, with the island on the right side?? I've yet to see a left sided one. Again great video.

It started in the early days of naval aviation with piston powered, prop airplanes having a torque tendency towards the port side. There is no reason to change the entirety of all our experience and doctrine to make a change.

Tie downs for aircraft while parked also any other equipment during bad weather
