Just so STEVE knows I got the chance to read this book prior to it's release dat- I have taken it on and every chance I get I am doing beast to talk about it and make this a best seller!
My review:A book that takes us from the ineffable excitement of buying and trading baseball cards in our youth (and many of us as old men), Steve Wiegand's "The Uncommon Life of Danny O'Connell" is a masterfully written, historically accurate narrative that tells the story of "The Great American Pastime" from the perspective of the "every man" who dreamt of baseball stardom. A dream that he hoped would eventually lead to him managing in the Big Leagues. He would achieve neither. A tale overflowing with delicious stories of brushes with greatness and encounters with true legends of the game, Wiegand uses the common thread of the colorful journey of O'Connell to successfully weave a story to rekindle a love I have for a game that has been the backdrop of the American Dream. Taken from us too soon at the young age of 41. The story leaves us wanting to hear just one more story. Just one more song from this quietly magnanimous individual. Long live baseball-Long live Danny O'Connell.
