I'D LIKE TO KNOW YOUR OPINION OF THIS VIDEO - A THUMBS UP OR THUMBS DOWN WOULD BE APPRECIATED - THANKS
This Video is for Hi-Fi review purposes only. I acknowledge the use of excerpts from material which may be Copyrighted . I am grateful to the copyright holders for allowing me to use their material in these Videos.
Another Video featuring these outstanding HiFi components : HEGEL H95 INTEGRATED AMPLIFIER, AUDIOLAB 6000 CDT (CD Transport) and SPENDOR LS 3/5a BBC SPEAKERS.
Now I have added the CAMBRIDGE MINX X201, the smallest (9in cube) 200watt budget Subwoofer that adds fine extended bass to the already awesome overall sound from small standmount speakers like these LS 3/5a’s or other small speakers. (see SOUND QUALITY below)
NOTE Ideally the Subwoofers crossover frequency should be set at around 10hz above the lowest frequency of the two main speakers. The LS 3/5a Speakers have a frequency range of 90hz to 20khz +/- 3db. Therefore the Subwoofer’s frequency should be set at 100hz (90hz + 10hz)
    THE MUSIC
Tune : 'Birdland' composed by Joe Zawinel and performed by Freddie Hubbard and his Band, from his Album ' Ride Like the Wind' on the Elektra Musician Label
SOUND QUALITY The music soundtrack for this RUclips Video was recorded on a Sony Model HDR -CX405 Camcorder and later finalised using Nero Video Editing Software on my Laptop PC. Unfortunately, the sound recording the Camcorder makes is less dynamic and tinny sounding compared to the high-quality sounds coming directly from the Spendor Speakers in my HiFi System . I think that the original sountrack recording the Camcorder made is not good enough to use on these RUclips Videos, so a NEW REPLACEMENT SOUNDTRACK HAS BEEN ADDED comprising of an MP3 music file download from the actual CD disc being played.
Sorry but on this RUclips Video you won’t be able to detect the difference in sound the Subwoofer makes because the Soundtrack is digitally added via an MP3 download. However, you do get to see the Subwoofer and how it’s size impacts on space in a small room.

    Saludos.

I want to tip my toes into the world of subwoofers for the first time. Its not for movies its just a bit of support for my floortanders in a 2.1 setup and this x201 has caught my eye. Are you happy with it?

      Hi RB
I think for the price paid this small Cambridge X 201 Subwoofer gives a very good account of itself and does give a very decent boost to bass response of the music you hear. Ideally the Subwoofers crossover frequency should be set at around 10hz above the lowest frequency of the two main speakers. Example : If you have Main Speakers frequency range of 90hz to 20khz +/- 3db. the Subwoofer’s frequency should be set at 100hz (90hz + 10hz)
      I hope this helps

@@discus276 Thank you. I can't believe how small it is. I can't find the frequency response of my speakers they're 25 years old but i've a measuring mic on the way. I would guess its around 50hz so a little help down to 30hz is fine for my needs. I don't need 20hz if it means a huge sub in my lounge.

Hi Steve nice setup. Could you please let me know your opinion about this...I was thinking to purchase CA minx x201 but i will place it near to a furniture. I mean the one of the two passive radiators of the sub will be almost attached to the furniture. (2-3 cm)
Let's say that on your video the disks box is the furniture and the sub will be closer to that.
Do you think that will has an effect at the bass quality?

      Hi Steve
Although not ideal, I think by having just one passive rad. up against your furniture and the other rad.set away from an obstruction, you should still get a decent response from the CA Minx. In my opinion the Minx looks better with the front cover off.

Hi Don. I still have both the Cyrus CDi and this Audiolab CDT. I just swap over from time to time as both are pretty good. Audiolab wins on price but the Cyrus still wins on sound quality in my opinion.
      Best wishes / Steve

@@discus276 Hi Steve, its me again. I have the CDi as well, an Oppo UDP-203 & Marantz CD6004. What differences are you able to hear with CDi vs Audiolab CDT and how is the CDi better?

    • @discus276
      @discus276  3 года назад

@@2010aloy I don't notice a huge difference in sound quality between the Cyrus and the Audiolab players because the difference is very subtle in favour of Cyrus I think. . I've had the CDi a few years now and stll love it's sound, it's size and build quality, and it's very good value for what it does. The only drawback with the CDi is that, where I live it's a complete expensive pain in the glass to have it serviced by Cyrus. After a few years of heavy use I decided to buy the Audiolab CDT just in case the CDi failed on me. Yes the CDT does a terrific job at producing quality sound but looks like and is a cheap piece of gear that's not very easthetically pleasing to me, has a noisy disc drawer, and doesn''t ike CD-R discs. So Cyrus wins for me.
I must say i'm very impressed with all the great bits of HIFi you possess. A bit up from my own stuff.
Keep well and stay safe / Stev
