I love the love for Courtney Love here. You can't deny she killed it as Althea in People vs Larry Flint. And she stood out amongst other seasoned actors. Plus she's a rock star.
I have to say thank you for uploading all of these! I love hearing about movie of the past and what the reception of them when they came out. Its very comforting to watch! Thanks again!😊🙏🏿
I agree. I love the nostalgia.
Your welcome & my pleasure
Rip gene, roger and robert pastorelli
Gene & Roger's Duelling Christmas Vests:)
I miss those them & those vests!
Flynt is one of Woody’s best films...
Allen didn't made people vs Larry flynt
@@Jbaxter85 Woody Harrelson.
I would called it his second best film (after Natural Born Killers) and his very best performance.
And to think, he also did Kingpin in the same year. He shows his strutting acting persona in both comedy and drama.
white man can't jump is also a great performance, comedy is tough to do
The People vs. Larry Flynt is a good movie.
So what was Jack Nicholson's great line in The Evening Star?
"There aren't that many shopping days left until Christmas."
Roger and Gene are wearing the same outfit.
I just watched The People vs. Larry Flynt, and I gotta say that it's a great movie and I share both Siskel and Ebert's delight of this movie. However, they forgot to mention either Woody Harrelson or Edward Norton's performance (both of which, are amazing), and only mentioned Courtney Love's performance (who is also great in this movie). Regardless though, all three of these actors gave great performances, and the movie holds rank as one of the best courtroom dramas of all time.
norton's second role, after his masterful performance in primal fear 1995, than american history X in 1998, norton was a natural in his acting
@jameswilliams-zr8co actually Primal Fear came out in 1996, then he did People vs. Larry Flynt, and even had a role in Woody Allen's musical "Everyone Says I Love You". All in '96, and then two years later we get him in not only American History X, but also Rounders. And then he rounds off the '90s with Fight Club. He is a very good actor.
Whatever happened to Edward Norton? He had a solid career for about ten years then pretty much left Hollywood and hasn't looked back since.
He clashed too much with his directors until they usually caved into him (his ideas were usually better), so lots refuse to work with him. Plus Norton himself is picky with what he does.
He was in The Grand Budapest Hotel a few years ago
well in short, he's way past his prime, his last great flicks were kingdom of heaven, the score, red dragon, after 2005 he didn't do anything interesting or thrilling, he turned into a bore, choosing lame boring roles no one cared about
I highly recommend People vs Larry; Courtney is wonderful
Robert Pastorelli would commit suicide not long after "Michael" was released. He had a long battle with depression and was going through a big rough patch, that he just didn't want to continue living anymore. He was best known as Murphy Brown's handyman.
He overdosed after relapsing and it was years after “Michael”. His career took a hit because his exgf allegedly shot herself in his home during an argument.
People vs Larry Flynt 👍🌟🌟🌟
Portrait of a Lady 👍🌟🌟🌟🌟
I cant believe they liked Michael. IMO not a good film for Travolta. Phenomenon released earlier in 96 was a much better film with him. Mother was a great and sadly underrated effort from the underrated Albert Brooks I agree with them on that one. And I agree with them on The Evening Star one of the worst sequels of all time to one of the all time great films. They tried their best but the original simply just didnt need a sequel.
Evening Stat was a really unnecessary..pointless sequel, as most are, I really really liked Larry Flint....funny it started in my hometown of Cincinnati where everyone has a conervative stick up their ass...
The Portrait Of A Lady i think is a great film. I really enjoyed Campions latest film The Power Of The Dog i wonder if Siskel and Ebert would have liked it.
michael and mother are very entertaining.
I’d have to say one of the biggest sins of pulp Fiction was revitalizing Travolta’s career. Michael. Phenomenon. Battleship Earth. All terrible.
Phenomenon was great. So we’re some other films he did after like A Civil Action and Get Shorty.
The ending got cut off
Yeah and right in the middle of the thumb summary which is frustrating
Mother was critically acclaimed, and Albert Brooks and Monica Johnson won two major critics' groups honours for Best Screenplay. Debbie Reynolds, however, was snubbed especially by the Academy for Best Actress. To think she gave a strong performance in the film. 👍👍
Jane Campion's adaptation of the Henry James novel is emotionally distant and dull. The dramatic centre is forced especially in the latter part of the story. Barbara Hershey saved the film from oblivion as the subtly-evil Madame Merle. 👎👎
Siskel always makes non-sensical comments. How else was Albert Brooks supposed to play his role in "Mother?" He was perfect.

I cant believe they praised Courtney Loves performance. I had really liked the movie when it came out but always found her character annoying and didn't find her a great actress. I dont think that my dislike for her personality in general made me biased. Maybe she was going for the super annoying vibe.
No I disagree. I think the best part of the film was the relationship between Larry and Althea. She does a good job portraying Althea’s loyalty to Larry, even after he was paralyzed. The legacy of Larry Flynt will always be Hustler magazine. But it’s his relationship with his wife that was back burnered.
@@Jamal3.87 The way her character acted maybe it wasn't so much loyalty to him, but loyalty to the life style and access to plenty of drugs.
Sounds like more of a you problem then a problem with the performance
@@steveb7932 Nah. We are talking about Courtney Love here. Definitely not my issue lol. And she certainly isn't/wasn't an actress. Move along now.
@@goldentaco4970 the way you responded just proved my point, child
Courtney Love a great actress? Her character is strung out on heroin I think that was not a great reach for her 🤨
