This was well done, showing both hands and tastefully articulated.

wrong, Cliff burton has confirmed he did it on bass. In fact it was 12 tracks layered on top of each other for the intro.

friend of mine who loves charvels and jacksons saw a real frankenstrat from van halen from $80,000... sounded like cathedral by van halen when you did that.

this is the first time i see people volume swell this way, i normally turn the volume knob with my little finger after picking as usual with pick, the volume knob is preset to minimum

  • @camaflashstudio

just find the tab for guitar and play the octave or root note in the volume swell

@AllHailHelms He was one of the first guys to really use it to popular effect. Genesis and a couple of other bands had used it prior but not as dramatically.

Depends how fast you can turn the knob :P
You can also do swells with a volume pedal which makes things much easier.

i guess you would just hammer down hard. i usually like to use the pick when doing swells. you can only do down strokes though.

Have you tried modifying the volume knob on your guitar to get FASTER volume swells like Phil Keaggy does?

@HyperNiel Well... I think 1 pickup is enough. I never use anything else than my bridge pickup with distortion (I have 2 pickups). For cleans I use all the 3 settings I have on my guitar (bridge/neck/both pickups) but I mostly use bridge pickup for everything.

Would you ever consider doing a tutorial on volume swells for the intro of "Damage Inc." by Metallica? Thing is it was done by Cliff Burton, but it would be very helpful if you could arrange it for guitar.

so to do such thing ... you need to volume knob ... some sort of delay i guess ... and maybe tremolo effect?
    What is the guitar tuning?

i just love the tone of it. right after i saw this i started practicing it on my stratocaster, but how do you keep getting all the notes to play without strumming? i can only get 2 or 3 without the tone fading out.
