friend of mine who loves charvels and jacksons saw a real frankenstrat from van halen from $80,000... sounded like cathedral by van halen when you did that.
this is the first time i see people volume swell this way, i normally turn the volume knob with my little finger after picking as usual with pick, the volume knob is preset to minimum
@AllHailHelms He was one of the first guys to really use it to popular effect. Genesis and a couple of other bands had used it prior but not as dramatically.
ya cool i thot so and hey i just learned that countrish solo the lead guitar etude #2 not really my style but i know my brother will appreciate it great videos btw cheers
@HyperNiel Well... I think 1 pickup is enough. I never use anything else than my bridge pickup with distortion (I have 2 pickups). For cleans I use all the 3 settings I have on my guitar (bridge/neck/both pickups) but I mostly use bridge pickup for everything.
Would you ever consider doing a tutorial on volume swells for the intro of "Damage Inc." by Metallica? Thing is it was done by Cliff Burton, but it would be very helpful if you could arrange it for guitar.
yup thanks i just love the tone of it. right after i saw this i started practicing it on my stratocaster, but how do you keep getting all the notes to play without strumming? i can only get 2 or 3 without the tone fading out.
This was well done, showing both hands and tastefully articulated.
wrong, Cliff burton has confirmed he did it on bass. In fact it was 12 tracks layered on top of each other for the intro.

just find the tab for guitar and play the octave or root note in the volume swell

You are thinking of the start of Orion which uses this exact technique.
wow 0:38 sounds really cool
Depends how fast you can turn the knob :P
You can also do swells with a volume pedal which makes things much easier.
wonderful sound!
i guess you would just hammer down hard. i usually like to use the pick when doing swells. you can only do down strokes though.
Have you tried modifying the volume knob on your guitar to get FASTER volume swells like Phil Keaggy does?

when u first started playing it sounded kind of like the intro to damage inc

Cool. Can you please send me the backing track of this vid. Thank you. Btw I love your tutorials. Great job
so to do such thing ... you need to volume knob ... some sort of delay i guess ... and maybe tremolo effect?
What is the guitar tuning?
it reminded me one pf the intro of metallica i think its damage inc song
It reminded me of Cathedral by Eddie Van Halen
Hi, can you send me the backing track used in this video please. Thanks and good tutorial/
se necesita unos equipos especiales? porque a mi no me sale ese sonido.
i was wondering how to make that sound from i think it was my friend of misery, im gonna try it!
i like to do it with reverb by the way did RHCP to this in hard to concentrate?
i've never seen a guitar with only one humbucker. how did your get a custom pick guard for that?
how is the EVH art series guitar? I was thinking of getting one
the intro sounds almost like the intro for damage inc by metallica
Is that a Charvel art series guitar?
yup thanks

Dickey Betts would use this technique on In Memory of Elizabeth Reed
1 pickup but great
you got to have much sustain so I think my single coil are not ... appropried!
sounds like violin
how bout an effects list aye? lol you cant make that noise with just a humbucker smart one...

@Haddon00 Best comment ever.
@AllHailHelms That's what EVH did.
there isn't one for bass
ask to malmsteen :D:D
dude what the fuck are you talking about you said if he could arrange them for guitar
well then if you know all this crap of the song why are you asking others for tabs
