In the Ancient Civil War, the Testifacates and Golems united to wipe out and destroy the builders, so when the builders felt threatened they created the withers. The Withers unleashed the plague which infected practically all the builders and some of the testificates. After the War, some of the Golems survived and even though the testifactes survived nobody won the war which explains why most of their kind are radical pacifists, however some weren't content to live idlily by as pacifists so the Illagers began to take form and resenting the cowardice of their villager cousins the Illagers became violent and began to do whatever it takes to expand their ranks, to keep growing like a cancer and prepare for a second invasion that may never come.
It does seem to explain a lot. Originally, the Illagers started as your average Villager, until they decide they’re tired of being peaceful mobs, that do nothing to defend themselves. They reach out to some powerful entities for help, and end up becoming the Illagers. Although, looking at the Totem of Undying, the vex, and even the Ravenger, it could be that they were trying to create alternate solutions to make their groups more powerful. Even the Official Mobstiary book says that all Illager types don’t bread, so they kidnap normal villagers into joining them. The Evokers are probably the leaders, considering they’re the only mobs that have the totem on undying. Still, it’s kind of sad. So the fact that this game is canon in the sense that it’s a story told by villagers through time, this implies that there is a sort of villager religion and due to the magical nature of the Minecraft world, those gods are likely real in some form.
so im going to assume this is, well, as the name implies: a "legend' passed down through the years and generations, slowly changed or altered unintentionally. so what does this say considering that its supposed to be a villiger story? well for starters: it tells us that the villager's still consider the illager's to be one and the same, or that rather an illager is capable of returning to his roots and becoming a villager again. moreso: it tells us that the illager's became what they are as a way to defend themselves/their people, we know that villagers rely very heavily on the iron golems, which may or may not have been built by the original builders to protect the villagers. perhaps there was a larger threat that the illager's dubbed important enough to learn how to fight? lastly: if it is to be believed, illager's have not always been imperialists like they are in modern minecraft (the pillager towers). it may even be likely that over time, as their territorial nature grew with their population, their villages grew with them, into large secluded mansions. (also, this game brings up an interesting question about how the illager's dont have an issue with other enemy mobs inherently, such as zombies and creepers, could it be that the illager's remember a time when they had to side with these other creatures in order to defend themselves?)

I kind of like how the little guy kind of had an instinctive idea of whats needed to make something but not the order they go in so he goes through hundreds of potential combinations until something works
hell, the developers are obliged to make an addition to minecraft legends where we will fight against the illagers. They also have outposts! There are also metatils (witches) and tanks!
I really wish foresight was hesitant and action wanted them to fight. It would make sense because foresight would know what could happen, (which eventually does,) while action would want them to fight, (or, you could say, take action)
I'm starting tho think Story mode, Dungeons, and Legends are the stories of before the actual minecraft game itself. We asked for lore and in 'spin off' games they are giving it to us. And a reason we dont have some of these things in the og game is cuz the guardians ( the 3 in legends that summoned the player ) removed them for one reason or another, good or bad. It would be fun to have some of those golems in game though.... Do I hear a modder workin? lol
Maybe there's a reason why they call it mcl, because it could be the ancient story about Minecraft, of how the other structures existed, or the reason why illagers are against villagers. Mcd is probably another Minecraft verse where an orb wants to corrupt the universe. But in mcl, tells the story of Minecraft's lore of how the ruins, the guardians temple, and how the illagers and the warden existed.
I thought Pillager started from a villager who knows to fight for defending the village. But because they're greedy, a villager learning combat is forbidden.
Everyone here is giving their thoughts and story guess ill post something then: The Tomb Kings, known as the Priest Kings in their former lives, are the undying rulers of Nehekhara, an ancient Human civilisation that formed a great and powerful empire some two thousand five hundred years before the birth of Sigmar Heldenhammer and the founding of the Empire. Out of all the unliving creatures that would claim dominion and royalty over the dead, only the Tomb Kings could truly claim such masterful and undisputed sovereignty. For they had once ruled a mighty and far-flung empire during a time when the rest of Mankind were little more than savage barbarians. Long ago, during an ancient and forgotten age, Nehekhara stood as a shining beacon of civilisation and Human achievement; a golden age when its cities shone with a majestic splendour, its buildings crafted from magnificent marble and limestone, its armies capable of conquering entire kingdoms. In this long-lost age, Nehekhara's mighty rulers reigned as living gods amongst men. But this great realm was destroyed millennia ago through acts of great treachery and powerful sorcery. The living of Nehekhara perished long ago in a single, mournful night, and in their absence, the dead stirred from their graves and claimed the land anew. Even as their ancient civilisation now lies buried beneath the sand, its once verdant plains turned to searing desert and their mighty and glorious empire fractured and in ruin, the Tomb Kings have once more awoken from their deep sleep. Rising from their decrepit sarcophagi, the mummified rulers of Nehekhara awoke with eyes of burning balefire, their thirst for power, conquest and vengeance just as strong in death as in life. They have returned to reclaim that which is rightfully theirs, their legions innumerable, rising up from the scorching sand brandishing weapons of polished bronze and priceless gold. Ancient, emotionless and spiteful to all those that have slighted them, woe betide those foolish enough to stand before their silent onslaught.
So basically, the illagers are an offshoot of the villagers that have evolved from the aid of an alien race to become a race of warlords who live with their clans in dense structures instead of villages. The illagers soon became rivals of the villagers as the illagers thought that the villagers had became too passive for their own good.
If we remember this is from villager's perspective story it's unbelieveable how redeeming for illagers this story is. Illagers for villagers are not some kind of traitors or evil outcasts but kin lost to their pursuit of being strong enough to defend themself and their new war-like nature. But until that point we're still going to be up to our necks in bacon and we'll even get more illager types helping us.
Agree, it just be redundant for MCD
Agree brother, I would consider Illager to be more allys as warrior than an enemy.
I'm fairly sure it won't since Minecraft Dungeons already did that
Still have the Piglin Seer and a possible End Dragon origins to do first.
I sense that they will make a dlc about the illagers one day. How The three deities made a terrible mistake by giving the villagers a weapon to fight for themselves. Although they clearly were benevolent at first, soon enough they will come to hate their fellow villagers for being weak.
maybe its not so much a mistake but rather a prevention of way worse fates, foresight has foresight after all

You'd think that a god-like being named Forsight would have the forsight to see that giving Villagers weapons would be a bad idea.
1:20 I love t that they did all the combinations and they chose the axe! I know Illagers always had axes but I prefer a good ok’ axe over a sword and this scene is so cool
I've never seen such a complicated scene to make an axe

hell, the developers are obliged to make an addition to minecraft legends where we will fight against the illagers. They also have outposts! There are also metatils (witches) and tanks!
witches seem just some sort outsider that illager hire them for healing, witches don't attack villager (from what i see)
"Illagers."
I really wish foresight was hesitant and action wanted them to fight. It would make sense because foresight would know what could happen, (which eventually does,) while action would want them to fight, (or, you could say, take action)
i wish this wasn't only legends cuz that's pretty cool
I wonder how good their attack is because in normal Minecraft they pack a hefty swing that can threaten people in diamond armor
I can hear MatPat Screaming Watching this bits
The results of what the illagers have become, this is why Action was hesitant of giving the illagers weapons. Because it turned them hostile
I feel this the next Minecraft dungeons, even though I have Minecraft dungeons, and the normal one, this might be the right deal.
Do I hear a modder workin? lol
Matpat rn: LOOOOOOOOOOORE!
I still can’t belive they can 2 shot you in full diamond armor in minecraft hardcore mode!
This is how Minecraft dungeons became a thing and plus there was a orb of dominance in this game As well
Yeah obviously
I thought Pillager started from a villager who knows to fight for defending the village. But because they're greedy, a villager learning combat is forbidden.
Everyone here is giving their thoughts and story guess ill post something then:
The Tomb Kings, known as the Priest Kings in their former lives, are the undying rulers of Nehekhara, an ancient Human civilisation that formed a great and powerful empire some two thousand five hundred years before the birth of Sigmar Heldenhammer and the founding of the Empire.

Foresight knowledge and action are all technically the antagonist since they where the reason for the villagers having war with the illagers!
