- We visit the beautiful National Trust property of Cragside, Rothbury, Northumberland.
The first house in the world to be lit by hydroelectricity created by Lord William Armstrong.
In this video we take a walk along the Armstrong Trail, see the Archimedes Screw, take a walk up to the Clock Tower and walk through the formal gardens where Jo thinks she's invented a new cocktail.
We walk over the Iron Footbridge to the house.
We end our time at Cragside with coffee and cake before popping into the shop.
We then drive home going under the Tyne in the Tyne Tunnel.

Cragside looks a lovely place to visit. Somewhere I've never been. Not too busy, which I like. The clock tower was quaint and the lovely gardens looked well tended. I think Bo got the best deal at the cafe tho I wouldn't have minded a coffee with the ice cream 👍Paul

Hi guys hope you all had a great Christmas. Cragside is a property we have not been to but will definitely do so if we are in the area. Was interesting about it being lit by hydro electricity. The grounds were beautiful you definitely picked a good time to visit. You were right about the clock tower it was cute. We loved the dahlias and chrysanthemums so many colours. You got us excited about a pineapple mint mohito sounds lovely. I don't like heights so not sure about the bridge is there another way over? The house and gardens were stunning. Cake 🎂 is always nice at nt shops. Boos ice cream went down well. Hope your pineapple 🍍 mint is growing well. Thanks for sharing wishing you wealth health and happiness in 2024. Cragside is definitely worth a visit if you are everin the area , we didn't have time to see everything. The grounds were beautiful to walk round.
The mint is still doing ok so hopefully will be able to make some pineapple mint mojitos next summer (they are a summer drink for me 🍸 )
Yes you can walk straight from the carpark to the house rather than go over the bridge.
WE always enjoy coffee and cakes at NT properties and they always have a good gluten free selection for Morgs.
Boo definitely enjoyed her ice cream.

Cragside is an amazing estate. We have been a few times but keep returning and finding more to enjoy. The estate is huge with many walks. We enjoyed watching you discover some of its interesting features. On another day the House itself is worth a look. Hope you are enjoying a great start to 2024.

Cragside is a beautiful place to visit, just wish we had more time there but at least it means a trip back.
Yes we will definitely try and go in the house next time. We have to go individually as Boo is not allowed in.

what a great place! i love that you can take your pup with you. i really appreciated all of the green as we're surrounded in snow and ice right now. yay for doggie ice cream. my two say bork to yours! 🛴❤

Loved cragside when i visited also. It's one of the most stunning trust properties! 6:57 the bridge is cool! Ah man you nevermade it up to the lakes! It has the most amazing maze. Only time ive ever genuinely got lost in a maze lol
