One of my favourite episodes of TableTop. Came here to pay tribute to Grant Imahara, who passed away sadly today. Let’s remember him for his contributions to the world and our imagination. Rest in Peace.
So it's 2019. And I still come back here ever so often, just to enjoy the wonderful nerdiness of this idea. So well done. The whole series. Thanks to this series, I started visiting my mom and brother again, to play some board games . And we still do to this day. Grateful kudos to Wil and Felicia and the whole team that made this possible. Thanks. Just wanted to say that.
Damon Fyrian Not only that. They also ate, crashed, crushed, ducted taped, listened, ripped, smelled, shot, sung, and sunk all in the name of science. And it was amazing! 😁 God, I miss that show. 😞
I doubt Wil and the Geek & Sundry team will ever read this comment, more so since this video came out ages ago, but you have been such an inspiration and this channel had been such a delight that really introduced me things that have created such lasting memories for me and my family. Thank you for being truly amazing! ❤️
Will is such a gosh darn sweetheart on table top. I feel like people could lose against him 6 times in a row and still feel good about themselves as long as he gives those awesomely encouraging comments
I watched this video two days ago and never thought I was going to put a comment here. It is sad to experience a passing of a great person. RIP Grant Imahara.
This show was clearly a good idea. You can never tell if some games are complicated or not before you play them. Yes it is 10+, but some games can be really complex with their rules and others, such as this, are nice and easily laid out. I feel confident in buying this for my nephews when they're a little older and myself for my gaming group as I can tell I can just dive right in without needing to look at the rules over and over before a next move.
I actually would prefer to see a video of a fresh game opened and set up, rules read etc etc to give a good idea of complexity - with no one knowing the rules - the closest I have seen to that is some guys playing Arkham Horror where its almost 1 hour of set up
I think this is better as the rules aren't shoved in your face and over the course of the game you are reminded and told of rules so it sticks in your head a lot more. Just my opinion though.
@@ardaugur7110 If you have friends to play it with then yes. There's a PC version which is pretty much a carbon copy, but I found it more fun with real people in real life.
6:13... my first thoughts were; "Korean!? Really? Does he know Korean?" And then I remembered that he said he commentated Starcraft... well that explains that.
When I heard Wil was 42 I was like...WHHAAAAA????? Then I watched this and was like....Nooooo...couldn't be! Coolest dude ever. Well, him and The Rock.
I'm sure scheduling for everyone is very tough but I really wish this group that played "small world" , the group for "resistance" and "stone age" could all be re-united for another different game. So many personalities and fun!
Love your shows, Wil--really enjoy the comedy, the game explanations and especially the demonstration of how much fun tabletop games can be. Hopefully more people will put down the game controllers and tv remotes and get into gaming! Keep the shows coming!
I feel your pain. I've managed to get a couple of friends to play some board games but they like to stick to the same one or two simple ones over and over. I don't think I'd stand a chance trying to get them to play Small World.
"Who are you?" "I am the new number 2." "Who is number 1?" "...You are number 6." "I am not a number! I am a free man!" "...Ha ha ha ha ha!" I love that show and that song.
I love coming back to watch all of these episodes. Tabletop and Will Wheton is why I came to this channel. Then to see Grant here is another punch to the gut. Gosh.
10 years latter and it is still the best board game production show with the exception of MTG Game Knights. The creators caught self-destructive magic in a bottle. I KNOW there would be an audience if someone took up the mantle and did it right.
I totally agree with you. I think that tabletop is probably one of the best shows that I have seen. I have bought a number of games because of it and now enjoy more time with my family. Thank you Tabletop. You are awesome and deserve a season 2.
21:15 "I've actually been keeping track in my head of the score. You are actually really far ahead of everybody. You are the barefoot Kenyan guy." haha good one. "Yeah! With no arms." wait what?
+lucas cavalini I read online somewhere that they've just started filming Season 4. It was sometime in April. But as Tom Cassidy said, it will be released sometime soon.
I'm gonna point out all the mistakes they did just for fun. * Hill giants cannot take areas around mountains for one less unless they control the mountains ;D * ghouls can not attack the same turn they go into decline either. * the tritons didn't start at the edge of the board but at an invalid location. * you don't need to CHOOSE which location to attack, before rolling the dice when using the berserker ability.
After watching that Big Bang theory episode where wil says: "I even have my own web series on board games" - I thought holy shit that would be awesome. And it turns out he only plays the best games out there, with some wierd not well known ones mixed in. You're the best wil!!!
I really started to get into tabletop gaming after watching this channel and my favourite games were all played by Grant. RIP Grant, you brought a lot of joy and will be missed.
Had to imagine this is not only 10 years old (almost anyways), but that Grant has left this world during that time. Smallworld was my introduction to the 'new' world of board games beyond the more mainstream ones, and I'll always love the back and forth in this episode that changed everything for me.
In the very first round, Sean isn't using the correct amount of tokens to conquer with the Giants. He's playing with them as if they conquer regions adjacent to Mountain regions cost 1 less, but you have to occupy said Mountains first.
Haha, oh well...we all do those kinds of things :P This is the very first episode iirc =) And if you just found it I can certainly recommend Ticket to Ride and Betrayal at the House on the Hill =) Enjoy :D
Lexahkiin You are lucky then, I just made a much bigger mistake as I misspelled "tasty" (gott in Swedish) as "Walked" (Gått in Swedish). The two words are pronounced the same way (homophones?) so the mistake is simple to understand. got the berserk wrong too, you place tokens for the attack then roll for reinforcements you don't just roll and place the minimum tokens needed its not rolling to see how few you must send its rolling to see how many come to help if no one comes to help you could lose or if the roll is not high enough and you didn't place enough tokens they basically made it an invincible ability by allowing a roll before placing tokens
Wrong. From the developers: You may roll the die once per attack. First, you roll the die. Then you choose an adjacent territory. Then, you deploy your tokens. So it is actually a discount you get before you need to send your troops. The way you explained it would be useless because I get to place my reinforcements at the end of the turn anyway whereever I want. Why would I want to put reinforcement troops on a tile AFTER I send units there. It does make zero sense.
I believe they also got tritons wrong - they have to come in from a border, which does not include water-bordering territories (unless they are seafaring, in which case they can grab the water first).
No, it was correct. > First Conquest A player's race deploying on the map for the first time must enter it by conquering one of its border Regions (i.e. a Region adjacent to the edge of the board or one whose shore is on a Sea adjacent to the edge of the board, even if the Sea is occupied by a Seafaring Race).
Huh. I guess I've been playing it wrong, then, based on an incorrect assumption of the definition of "border." I thought it was just them assuming since it was tritons. Oh well, now I know for next time.
