CRYSTAL RIVER KAYAKING - M22 Glen Arbor

- The Crystal River is located in Glen Arbor (Northwest Michigan) and is a beautiful, crystal clear, slow moving, shallow river. For the most part, the depth of the river is no more than 1 foot with a sandy bottom. The river flows through part of the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore and is a family friendly (Pure Michigan) destination. I avoided the crowds and hit the river early in the morning. As the day started, I had the river all to myself but by the time I finished my float...the parking lots were full. Thanks for checking out the video and have an adventure filled, safe day...Jim
Note: Please take safety seriously and use proper precautions when out on the water. Many online kayaking safety resources are available. Below are a couple of helpful sites for reference... 1) www.watersport... 2) www.rei.com/le...

Thanks for the awesome video!!! Can you attach a tube to a kayak and float down the river?
Thank you... You usually don't see tubes on the Crystal River. I think they would probably punctured because of all the sticks. However, if you're in that area the lower Platte... Just south of there.. is hugely popular for tubing and kayaking. It's shallow, slow, clear and a lot wider. The lower Platte empties out into Lake Michigan which is a lot of fun. If you do go to either spot there are liveries on both river to rent kayaks if you don't have your own... I hope this helps. Happy Monday, Jim 😊✌️
Cool video. Always enjoyable 👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks for the visit, greatly appreciated...hope you guys have a fun filled and safe week ✌
I will be heading up there on Friday. Did you use CRO's shuttle service or did you drop a bike at the end and then take your car/yak to the trailhead?
Hey Aaron... I do both depending on the occasion, a spot from CRO ($12 last time I used them) and the bike thing. On my last float, I just went to the first crossing and walked back to the truck...about a 15-minute walk (an hour or so float without stopping). A great time of year to paddle...you may even have some salmon in the river this weekend...Ok...safe travels, Jim ✌
@@riversandcoffee Awesome info. Thanks!
this is it. You reach the end.
Thank you for showing us a round
Thanks for the support.... hope you have a wonderful day 🙂
Great video. Did you take out where the chute was? Are there any other placed pass there that has a public access? We are planning head out there soon and plan to put in at the Crystal River Trailhead but can't find any public access pass the chutes for a longer trip. Thanks
Good Morning... The prettiest part of the trip is that first section... But the other half is pretty nice too... If you float into town you should be able to take out at the canoe livery or right before... Parking is an issue... but there is public parking on the other side of the road. The livery does offer a shuttle service, I think it was 10 or 12 dollars the last time I checked... PS: if you can be on the water before 10:00 you avoid livery crowds.... Side note: a bridge and culvert replacement project is planned for the area.. OK, I hope this helped... Good luck, be safe and have fun. Jim ✌️
Your living the dream lol
This is true... I feel like a little kid every time I head to the woods or river... ✌️ 😊

I can see why it’s called Crystal River.. it’s like glass! You must’ve gone pretty early in the morning to avoid the crowds. I also thought you were going to go through the drain pipes 😂
Depending on the water level, you can go through the pipe on the left...but because I hadn't checked it out first...I thought I better just portage 🛶 Haha...Thanks for the time and support...have a fun and safe weekend ✌
That looks like a cool spot to go Kayaking. pinery Provincial Park in Ontario is like that.

I visited the river this July. This river is perfect for even entry level of paddlers. The weather was perfect, kayaks great, water clean and refreshing, and views and entire adventure magical.
That's awesome.... It sure is a beautiful area and the river is quite magical. It's one of the few rivers that we paddle in the winter as well. Thank you for the nice comments, greatly appreciated. I hope you have an adventure filled and safe week, Jim ✌️

Wow. That river is absolutely gorgeous!
And I’m lovin that personalized coffee mug!! 🔥🔥
We usually only paddle the Crystal in the fall and winter because of the crowds.... but it sure is a fun little float. If you catch it right...there's a pretty good push of salmon that come up that little river in the fall. Hope you guys have a fun and safe weekend ✌
Good job on beating the crowd. It is so quiet. The water is crystal clear. I love everything about it. Thanks for sharing. Stay safe.
