    you should talk about warranty. In my opinion Weber has about the best customer service on the planet. I'm still getting warranty parts for my performer and it's 11 years old. They even sent me a new table top and lid when I was in a flood last year and my grill got wrecked. Incredible.

      Agreed. I accidentally caused a grease fire in one of my Weber grills and when I asked Weber if I could buy a new ash catcher and ring they just sent me the parts as a courtesy. I was very grateful. Customer for life.

    You nailed the pros down exactly Ry! The only thing that I have noticed in addition to everything you mentioned, is if you use the supplied gasket material for the lid, there is absolutely no smoke leaks. It becomes a very tight kettle unlike any other. Temps are so easy to control and hold. Absolutely love mine as well. Great job on this Ry!

    • @CookingWithRy

      Yeah, I thought about putting the gasket on, but I opted against it simply because I didn't want to have something to get right. I mess up stick on gaskets EVERY TIME :)

    Great vid, thank-you! I love the SnS and use it all the time. And I agree with all your Pro points. I agree it's a better kettle than any and all variations of the Weber. There is just way too much versatility offered with the SnS relative to other kettles which so greatly expands what a cook can do with a kettle. There are even more pro points IMO than what you mentioned and that's a good thing. But there is one minor design flaw which I'd like to point out, if I may. Since this is a pro / con video, I hope this is a good place to mention this. It's part #10 - the star shaped part with the five blades that is designed to sweep ash into the vents and into the ash can underneath. The curve of the blades is not quite the same as the curve of the bowl. The first half of the blade extending from the middle is perfect, but then the curve of the blade leaves the surface of the bowl just slightly, leaving a gap as the blade extends to the tip. If you look closely at the tip of the blade, you can see the gap between the tip and the bowl. If you have a Weber and check the same thing, the Weber blade is flush with the bowl all the way to the tip - it is perfect - even though it is significantly longer. The SnS is not. So why does this matter? I had noticed this before but didn't really think too much about it. I assumed the gap was so minor that it didn't matter. That was until I used my Thermoworks Billows with the SnS. I was doing a slow cook with the bottom vents closed completely and the Billows attached to the smoke hole. When the billows fan kicked on, smoke began pouring out of the ash basket underneath! And it wasn't a little bit, it was a huge and alarming amount of smoke "billowing" out of the ash basket underneath, as well as the top vent. So what does this mean? It means, whether or not your cooking with a Billows, when you close the bottom vents during a slow cook, they're really not completely closed off. It means air is coming into the kettle through those vents whether you like it or not. And it also means when you shut the SnS down, there will be a slight air leak keeping those coals lit a bit longer than necessary. I was able to fix mine with some HD foil. Five pieces, 6 inch square, folded twice. Insert the little pocket of the foil into the finger of the blade, sliding down three inches, and I think that effectively solves the problem because the foil is sort of "V" shaped and blocks the gap. The foil actually stays put even when you sweep the blades side to side repeatedly. Things like this happen with brand new products, and I think SnS will resolve this problem eventually. Would I buy an SnS again? You bet! It's still the best kettle on the market. Thanks again

    Great Video Ry...and I know Weber has had a very successful run since the 1950s, but why in the world havent they made these simple, yet very effective modifications is beyond me. I guess because people just keep buying them...

    • @Nemnar7
      @Nemnar7 3 года назад

      My guess is it's a combo of a few things. I doubt a master touch is the entry point for someone buying their first weber. They probably get the base model or the one right above it, which let's be honest, can do just about as well for smoking as the master touch for like half the price. Once someone buys the master touch, they probably already own another weber, and want to be consistent. I would imagine they design at least the two lower models on the most common use, likely grilling. So to keep the design "consistent" they focus on other areas. Also, those extra ports do create new failure points, and leakage points. So while leaks and failure might be small, over the scale of someone like weber, it could add up. The $165 weber can probably do about 90% or more as good of a job as this for about 60% of the price?

    Love your channel and videos. SNS has some really nice accessories and I have most of them. That said, my preference is still the Weber Kettle, tried and true. I have many Weber kettles from the 60's to present and they do stand the test of time when properly cared for. I really appreciate the history and colors of the past models as well as the color choices with current models. Nice review.

    I've had mine for about the same amount of time, and only con I have is the clean out fins are a bit short IMO. I find myself having to remove the charcoal grate often to push ash that builds up above the fins down.
    Other than that the rig has been solid. I already had a SnS basket and HIGHLY recommend folks to get one to go with it.

  • @agmajor8993
    @agmajor8993 2 года назад +1

    Agree whole-heartedly with your pros. The big con for me is the ash sweep. I see another comment below about that it doesn't close the vents as well as Weber's does, but more disappointing to me is that it doesn't sweep the ash away nearly as well as Weber's sweep. I notice this in particular when I'm using the slow 'n sear with it. You get a ton of ash build up underneath it. It also has a much looser connection between the lever and sweep, I don't feel like I have as much control as I do on my Weber. Using the ash catch bucket though is much easier then on the Weber. I just wish the bucket was bigger.
    That being said, the pros outweigh the cons for me and I'm very happy with mine.

    There's another issue...the fingers of the bottom vent cover or "star", are lifted at both ends and are hollow. No matter how much you close off the vent holes, air is still allowed to flow through the lifted ends of the fingers. Weber's design doesn't allow this to happen.

    I'm so happy to see a comparison of these two by someone I respect so much. I'll admit, I was mad at SNS for a long time because I felt like they "betrayed" the people that put them on the map. But this is the first comparison I've seen between the two, and now I can see how much thought was put into improving very specific qualities that we've all complained about in our beloved Weber kettles. Moving the lid thermometer closer to the grate was such a smart move in and of itself. Moving the top vent right next to it was genius!
    Then they added a port for your temperature probe, which which is a great addition that solves a problem all Weber kettle owners end up fighting with eventually, to the point that some people are actually cutting slots into rim of their Weber Kettles for the wire. I've all but stopped using mine because of the hassle of fussing with the wires. I have 2 Weber Kettles, both in great shape, so I'm not looking for another grill. But I'm glad you make this video and broke the differences down so thoroughly. I'm actually putting together a video about how to buy your first grill, and this will be great information to include.

    • @John-tx1wk
      @John-tx1wk Год назад

      Kind of a late reply but if you were unaware you can buy the temp probe cover from SNS. I did and installed it on my Weber. Of course drilling two holes, one of them pretty big, into your Weber technically voids your warranty but I doubt any warranty issue I have would involve me sending the actual kettle in. It seems like most warranty issues are taken care of by Weber sending you the part that messed up. I'm also not looking for a new kettle but if I were I would lean toward the SNS. I have pointed several people who were shopping/researching in their direction.

    We all love our Weber kettles & end up making modifications like adding a probe port hole ( or notching the kettle). adding a hole if we plan on adding Fan Control.
    Weber should have added a Temp probe port. On Weber Summit Kamado, they did add a factory hole for temp control fan. its got a removable plug to add a fan like the ThermoWorks Billows.

    I have an old beat up Weber 22" Kettle and I'm planning on replacing it with the 26" model fairly soon. I would definitely go with the SnS IF they come out with a 26" before I make the move. Otherwise I will probably modify the new Weber to have the ports in approximately the same locations. Come on SnS make that announcement.

    I wonder what the build quality is like over time. I have had my weber kettle for 20 years. It stays out side in the winter and summer. The only think I have needed to replace was the bottom vent assembly for $ 28.00. The paint, the metal, and everything is almost like when it was new. I'm thinking that that the SnS folding tray and perhaps other parts may rust when left outside all those years, Your thoughts?

  • @GiacomoCalabrese
    @GiacomoCalabrese 3 года назад +2

    I agree but there are 2 more pros and cons. The bowl. In the weber kettle the cooking grate sits a bit higher in relation to the kettle. Pro of the cons is when cooking a whole turkey or large roast there is more room at the bottom of kettle for those cooks. Con is using the elevated cooking grate to throw something at the top level leaves you with less room. Is it a deal breaker? Not at all. It just i wouldn't do really thick roasts etc like a second brisket up on the top level but racks of ribs or etc there is still plenty of room.
    The other pro and con is the added thermal tape ring included in the sns system. I haven't bought a weber system in over 5 to 7 years but my sns grill over the winter was very economical to run on coal. The burn rate was much longer and more steady using that thermal tape around the kettle lid when installed. It makes the lid sit a tighter seal as well. I don't remember my weber having that option?

  • @danielbryan8300
    @danielbryan8300 3 года назад +4

    Honestly the price is the deal breaker. At 279 you could buy a Weber premium for 165 and only miss out on the probe hole and smoke hole. And still have money for a Weber 18" kettle or a couple briskets.
    For 279 weber has the performer which has a better table/cart design in my opinion.
    O and the lid holder. The same design Weber has just a slight better angle, still over 60 more than Webers equivalent model.
    I think the few changes they made are great but to ask this much for it is crazy.

    How has the ceramic coating held up? I'm very disappointed with my Weber kettle grill. My parents have a 1988 ish model that has real heft and no rust. My Weber kettle that I bought in 2021 had the lid replaced after 6 months due to the coating failing. The bowl has large sections now where the coating has fallen off and is rusting.

    What would the benefit of a UDS be vs this kettle? Being able to cook at quantity? The "set it and forget it" nature of it?
    Also, have you done any "getting started" videos for newbies? I poked around and didn't see anything. Or maybe I got too distracted watching all the other tasty looking stuff you made.

    The only downside I can see (I'm looking for my first grill, so take what I say with a grain of salt) is the master touch seems to have a heavier duty nicer grate, and the Master touch comes with the extra warming grate. But the things this has such as the grate level thermometer and 4 legs seems to make this grill way better.

    I have an old school weber kettle and I want an upgrade. I am torn because I really want the performer premium because I like the cart system and it has the ne P vent for better dialing of the air flow, but I would have to drill to add a probe port and thats a con. The SnS is ready to go, but it needs a better table, at least for me. Ugh I am in a pickle.

    After owning this grill for two years, there's a catch with all the modifications with this SNS grill. While I think the modifications are a step above a weber, the weber quality is far superior. Sometimes the SNS grill can feel flimsy, and it doesn't balance as well as a weber kettle.

    very nice video Ry! (as always)
    can you elaborate on your smoking set-up please?
    as in relation to where the SnS charcoal basket goes to the position of the lower 'smoke hole', and also the lid vent position too.
    currently I've got a WKG and the Weber charcoal baskets.
    would like to purchase the full SNS grill this season.
    Thanks!

    • @CookingWithRy

      They both do basically the same thing. No real difference in effectiveness between them even with more blades in the SnS.

      There is that blemish there, and it pretty much matches what I've seen on my other kettles in different spots where some imperfection in the paint shows, particularly around connection points. On both my Webers there are similar spots where the leg holders are attached to the kettle body. I wish they all were perfect, but on almost all my cookers if I look carefully I can find some small cosmetic deficiency.

    • @CookingWithRy
      @CookingWithRy  3 года назад

      The probe port is just smoke/heat discoloration. I have that on every cooker where high heat can escape. As for the blemishes, I have similar marks on one of my Webers around the leg brace attachment points. I generally don't hold those against the maker unless they are numerous on the unit. It would be nice if it wasn't there, but it's not a deal breaker to me.

    • @CookingWithRy
      @CookingWithRy  3 года назад +1

      With those features it's no copycat. I love Weber (I own 2), but they've missed the boat bigtime by not listening to customers over the years. They could have made this kettle if they'd listened, and the fact that many of these mods can be made by adding aftermarket items (the shelf, the probe port, etc...) is a shame.

  • @emmgeevideo

    Imagine you have a Weber kettle that's getting long in the tooth and you have an SnS thingie. You watch this video and say, "Darn, I'm getting a new kettle." Now imagine that you had to buy the new kettle with the SnS thingie. You'd have two thingies and would be out the extra money. Your con would really be a con for that guy.

    Why's does it have visible rust / rust bubbles showing after only 7 months in a warm time? Also the hole for thermometers shouldnt be rusting in 7 months.
    My 5 year old wsm with a silicon thermometer hole that spends every day out side in MN only has rust on the coal grate as expected.
    Not hating on the sns. 4 legs and a side table is something weber should have done 30years ago. Also a silicon thermometer hole is such low hanging fruit, I can't believe weber corporate incompetence is so thick they haven't added one to their higher models.

  • @tarnis3d

    The SnS accessory itself seems like a gimmick. You can easily just bank your coals on one side and then lay down a cheap roasting pan and fill it with water on the other side. There’s no need to spend $100.

    Webber has a hearing problem; they don't listen to customers. They think they've got a perfect design from 30 years ago, so they never change. Customer issues on quality from 40 years ago are still here.
