    How reduce heat buildup during the heat of the day
    Choosing camping locations that will likely cool down at night
    All the items I use to help keep the minivan ventilated and free from condensation
    My minivan camper is a '23 Honda Odyssey but you can apply these strategies for KEEPING COOL to any minivan camper.

    This was GREAT! I am loving your station. Thank you for all the great videos! I am curious if you have a video like this but for keeping warm in winter?

    • @Justin_Hikes
      @Justin_Hikes  25 дней назад +1

      Thank you for the kind words Paula. I don't have a video for keeping warm yet. I usually try to avoid camping on the coldest nights. However, my wife and I camped in Rocky Mountain National Park last winter when it got quite cold. We kept the minivan windows open just a little to prevent condensation. That meant it got pretty cold inside but we each had a 20 degree sleeping bag plus a blanket. It was cozy! Cheers and happy camping!

      Thanks for the kind words Swifty! I'm sure you'll have a lot of fun camping when you are empty nesters. We used to always camp in a tent (and sometimes still do). So for us, sleeping in the minivan is a big step up. Cheers!

      I'm glad to know I'm not the only person not fully satisfied with the WeatherTech sunshades. I could have given them some slack if they didn't claim they were made specifically for my make, model and year. With a claim like that it should fit perfectly. Cheers and happy camping!

    have as much sense as a bird and move north or up into the mountains for the summer. and then back down south/into the valleys for the winter. when you have wheels under you, this is quick and easy. Ive lived in an old minvan for 4 years in my live, once for 3 years straight as I completed college.

    • @Justin_Hikes
      @Justin_Hikes  4 месяца назад +1

      Yes sir! That’s why “camping location” is one of my three strategies. Camp where it can cool off at night. Not always an option but always a consideration. Cheers!

  • @Spolt_main

    Step 1: live/camp somewhere that get's to the mid 70s with >20% humidity.
    I live in Mississippi so I'm just done for. I've settled on a tent with no rain fly set up in the shade and if possible bring PCM cooling pads. For when I sleep. Fans help too but with 80-100% humidity they're almost not worth it. 😂

    • @Justin_Hikes
      @Justin_Hikes  3 месяца назад

      Agreed! I try to camp someplace where it will cool down at night. Of course that's not always possible. I've got a fan but the cooling pad idea sure sounds good in a pinch too. Thanks!

    Do those WeatherTech side window deflectors increase wind noise when driving at highway speeds? Thanks for the videos -- I'm hoping to start taking my Toyota Sienna camping later in the fall this year.

    • @Justin_Hikes
      @Justin_Hikes  3 месяца назад +1

      I haven't noticed a difference in wind noise. However, I almost always have the windows up so maybe I don't notice. Best of luck with your Toyota Sienna camping plans. Minivan campers unite! 😀

    As a minivan camper beginner, exactly what I needed. One quick question, do you think the portable air conditioner like EcoFlow do the job or is worthy? Thank you.

    • @Justin_Hikes
      @Justin_Hikes  4 месяца назад +2

      Thanks so much for the kind words. I don’t have any experience with portable air conditioners. I try to camp in places where it will cool off some overnight. But if I had to consistently camp in hot places I’d definitely look into it. Best of luck. Cheers!

      Hi. I'm not handy either. That's why I set aside a budget for off the shelf items for my camper build. I like that the Trunk Mate is versatile and I can use it in my other vehicles too. However, there are certainly advantages to having a custom build made exactly for your vehicle. Especially if you have a friend who can help. Best of luck and happy camping. Cheers!

    Im not happy with my custom shades from Weather Tech either. #1 They are a pain to roll and store and take up too much room while storing in my mini van.

    • @Justin_Hikes
      @Justin_Hikes  Месяц назад +1

      For the price they charge for the Weather Techs they could have at least included a bag. Any recommendations for alternatives? I'm starting to think a DIY approach might be best for sunshades. At least for everything but the windshield. Cheers and happy camping!

      @@Justin_Hikes no recommendations other then making your own blackout curtains along with the shades when you want to be stealth and private. Be well
