He truly is an incredible guy, he's got more talent in his little finger than most other artists and it's an absolute honour to have grown up over the last 20 years listening to his music
I really do not understand the hateful comments. The depth and insight when it comes to inspiration and understanding of music he has is very inspiring. What Gary does is just much more simplified than some deeper understanding of things, and that should never be confused with something of lesser quality. Very nice video!
This interview emphasises that songwriting is a journey. Like all journeys it has twists and turns and unforeseen events that are either positive or negative but can all be used - depending on how objective you can be - to your benefit. It is also important to find your own voice.
The whole point of this interview is supposed to "listen" and "gain advice" from a songwriter. Not to hear a opinion from a nobody called Zane Lowe... I was hoping to learn something i felt so sorry for Gary. He has so much patience and he was generous with his time! Thank you Gary... I wish i could of learnt more from this but i couldn't but i blame Zane for that!
@@JakeRiley absolutely not true. The realm of success is full of spite, bitterness, loneliness, sadness, competition and existentialism. The idea that positivity and success are innate is a myth taken from the combination of New Thought and the protestant work ethic. Many "successful" people are deeply unhappy. Just look at Robbie. He's hardly [been] a beacon of positivity.
i dont understand why people are so annoyed by lowe. i actually prefer this "conversation" type interview, instead of just a Q & A. he had some good, insightful things to say as well
I think the haters comments about Zane Lowe are completely unnecessary. I really enjoyed this interview - well done Zane and Garys - the insights were excellent.
Everyone, lay off the interviewer and interviewers in general! They are just genuinely enthusiastic about the person they are interviewing. At least they actually speak rather than sit there star struck, which is what 99% of the people criticising here would be like in their position. Just be grateful the interviews exist at all.
I kept thinking the same thing. Gary's showing us the troubles of being a vulnerable artist in his explanations and Zane is clearly not understanding it. Gary carries on nicely, though.
Zane Lowe is the very definition of 'hipster'. You're inside, take your scarf off. I highly doubt you need those glasses. The thing that annoys me the most is how he treats it like musician v musician. He asks Gary Barlow questions, he answers them and then no matter what Gary says, Zane acts like he knew the answer all along and just repeats back what Gary Barlow has just said.
I'am a songwriter..I don't play piano that great..but I write songs that the world hasn't heard yet that will blow the minds of all my famous colleagues......I found the interview very subliming..Mr.Lowe was only intrigued about Gary's depth knowledge about songwwriting..I have the same first name as Mr.Barlow..funny to know that when you become famous through your work and the ones like me who are not so known still struggle for a massive audience. but I still love the process
The interview is really good, mainly because of talented Gary, of course. I can't understand how the interviewer doesn't know what The Flood is about. Has he read the lyrics? (amazing song, by the way).
there's more to writing to lyrics. take that are enduringly popular for many reasons, but they wouldn't be half of where they are now if not for barlow's (and since the reunion, other members) abilty to write.
Gary Barlow, a very likeable guy with some great insights into songwriting. Zane Lowe obviously knows his music but very irritating at times with his interruptions and inappropriate comments.
It's funny how the host just loves the wonderfully "original" pattern at 45:25 when it's note for note the intro to Journey's "Don't Stop Believing." If this guy is Britain's greatest ever pop songwriter, the entire place has either gone mad or has mass amnesia.
Interesting interview, but Zane could you let Barlow do the talking, you often don't let him finish when he's in the middle of pointing out something interesting.
@BountyB0b I don't think I could agree more!! - absolutely wasted opportunity.. we got amazingly good insight in SPITE of ZL.. imagine what a good interviewer could've gotten out of this.. pitty..
er - Zane's a singer songwriter in his own right - he's a presenter and has to ask the basic questions to get the answers for those who are starting out! Be nice :-)
Gary Barlow comes across very well in this video. Zane Lowe, on the other hand, demonstrates that although he may have a radio-friendly voice he clearly knows nothing about the art of creating music and writing songs. What a wasted opportunity - the BBC should have got someone much more qualified to do this interview.
I was pointing out that your reference to the knowledge of the OP bares no relevance in terms of this interview, where Zane Lowe's knowledge does, so stating "I bet you don't either" is redundant. Also your response to me "You don't know yourself", excuse me sir, but you have never met nor spoken to me, my knowledge on certain subjects is unknown to you.

You're spot on.
Gary is so generous in this interview, so interesting and inspirational.

He is a fantastic singer/songwriter......so passionate! an inspiration!
Fantastic interview, what a legend :)

Show some respect Garry is an extremely talented man anyone that says otherwise is either ignorant or just jealous!
Nice wholesome vibe Gary.
Fabulous interview!
level of honesty writing with someone is exceptionally rare, love some of the stuff Gary is writing especially the flood !!
Gary is brilliant!
The Message. It's all about The Message. Love this.
Very interesting interview. Gary is awsome
Awe-Inspiring...Thanks Lads.
Just inspiring!
Starts talking about how he actually starts writing a song and gets completely cut off with a random question. ARGGGGGGHHH!
Loved watching this. Great video.
I'm totally inspired! I'm going to write songs n learn piano....😁👍🎧🎼🎹
He's a REAL positive thinker isn't he?! Everything is "great" or "beautiful", I wonder if this has added to his success?
Of course it did. Every major success has that mentality

Gary Barlow you are the best singer songwriter ever
God Bless Gary Barlow
great stuff! i'm so late on this video but it's pretty inspirational
i dont understand why people are so annoyed by lowe. i actually prefer this "conversation" type interview, instead of just a Q & A. he had some good, insightful things to say as well

Love Gary
Teaching myself how to play the piano now , i realize how crazy it was for him to play that intro song without looking
Good interview though. These are the sort of questions and answers I like.
Great video ! Happy New Year !

Helpful conversation, much better if you guys demonstrate operating the amazing equipments arround.
I kept thinking the same thing. Gary's showing us the troubles of being a vulnerable artist in his explanations and Zane is clearly not understanding it. Gary carries on nicely, though.
oh the poor dear, he has to wear a scarf he's so cold.
What a nice guy.
Thank you for sharing
Zane interviews himself
What was Zane's keyboard playing reference supposed to be at 16:27?
he's had like 14 no.1 singles and countless other top 10 ten singles....yeah, he's pretty good...
Yes

Lowe is such a hipster that he was a hipster before being a hipster was even a thing.
They are sharing information they’re both successful

Zane Lowe just talks talks talks!!
Gary
What do the guys do if you are touring as a solo act?
40:28 - 40:34 O_O THIS IS MAGIC
He's not sharing tips from his 'Take That & Party' album is he?
What's the song at 40:16? With the Bo Rhap chords hahaha
The Flood
Liasun
Thanks :)

I just can't get over how Hipster the interviewer. I'm thinking, "this dude is hitting everything a young Hipster dreams of being like"
Does he say Pacifically at around 11:31?
That last 5 minutes I relate to exactly
there's more to writing to lyrics. take that are enduringly popular for many reasons, but they wouldn't be half of where they are now if not for barlow's (and since the reunion, other members) abilty to write.
that lighting glitch is SO annoying!! Zane is a bit over intense.
Gary Barlow, a very likeable guy with some great insights into songwriting. Zane Lowe obviously knows his music but very irritating at times with his interruptions and inappropriate comments.

That sounds absolutely nothing like don't stop believing.
Aweome!
Interesting interview, but Zane could you let Barlow do the talking, you often don't let him finish when he's in the middle of pointing out something interesting.
I'm not familiar with Zane Lowe, how he's percieved or what's expected at a Musicians' Masterclass int. I enjoyed the interview. It seemed fine.
We all love chris haha
..and don't forget to wear you artist scarf. Unobstrusively.
Hello my friend ✋
But is he conducting the interview?
💕
Not a very good interviewer is he?
This presenter only succeeded in getting in the way of what could have and should have been a very interesting interview
so this guy didn't realize that rock singers didn't have to have husky voices until he heard coldplay? what about thom yorke
g r e a t j o b# what's us, salt force !!
@BountyB0b I don't think I could agree more!! - absolutely wasted opportunity.. we got amazingly good insight in SPITE of ZL.. imagine what a good interviewer could've gotten out of this.. pitty..
this dude looks EXACTLY like randy couture
Go Garry! the interviewer is annoying tho!
er - Zane's a singer songwriter in his own right - he's a presenter and has to ask the basic questions to get the answers for those who are starting out! Be nice :-)

Zane looks very sheltered in this interview. His outfit.
8:08
check out london's burning, soundcloud, xfilez2
I got to 1.56 and that was enough of ZL
What a missed opportunity no tax dodging tips at all
Yeh I wish Zane could have just shut up when Gary was showing and playing The Flood
The Sarin gas is released at 41:51. Oh sorry, that's wishful thinking.
Gary Barlow comes across very well in this video. Zane Lowe, on the other hand, demonstrates that although he may have a radio-friendly voice he clearly knows nothing about the art of creating music and writing songs.

👍💋❤️
Check out a song on RUclips called it’s good by mrfallrise x
Zane Lowe was an insufferable hipster before insufferable hipsters were a thing.
my mans stoned
the I hate Zane Lowe club😂
Listen to rule the world
@451harri really???
Soft cell
the interviewer doesn't get what the Flood is about?!?...really?!?!
I was pointing out that your reference to the knowledge of the OP bares no relevance in terms of this interview, where Zane Lowe's knowledge does, so stating "I bet you don't either" is redundant. Britain's greatest song writer?
***** Fortunately, it isn't.
