I'm a 6w5 and have always struggled with making decisions. That concept of "making a move when you're 70% or so sure" is so profound for me. Learning from the mistakes instead of striving for perfection and freezing from decision paralysis.
70% sure does sound terrifying, indeed. As a 6w5, it kind of sounds like we're doomed to alienate people until we die. I sometimes hate how accurate the enneagram test was. But its also a relief to understand myself at a deeper level.
The beauty is that the more you know this is your bias the more aware when it happens if you stay present to it, thereby being able to correct to the center instead of going so far one direction. Balance is key to everything in life I have found.
So I am an INFJ 6w5. I know a lot of people don't agree with MBTI typing but when I combined my type with my Enneagram type, it was crazy how accurate it was! Learning about all of this is helping me learn to be my better self. He talks about us living in our heads and needing to make gut decisions but I feel like my mind is split in two because I have great intuition and my first reaction is to follow my gut but my brain tells me to make sure first. Like a living contradiction!
I think combining the two is the MOST accurate. Bc Enneagram doesn’t focus on introvert/extrovert which is a huge part of a persons personality. MBTI is how a person interprets and sees the world while Enneagram is the core of the personality. Kind of like the enneagram would be the frame of pair of glasses and the MBTI would be the lens prescription of the glasses if that makes sense. An enneagram 6 includes introverts and extroverts, and all kinds of MBTI types. For example, you are INFJ, 6, and I am INTJ, 6. So the same core concepts drive our personality, but the way each of us expresses that and interprets input is very different.
You are spot on, I wonder how many people study both and put them together, you can be a 6w5 infp or a 6w5 intj and present similar in ways but very different in others, I am a 9w1 infp and I work with a 9w1 intj and we both love peace but he is very different because he is a thinker judger and I am a feeler perceiver. Very interesting stuff.
As a 6w5 the back story is dead on for me. I had a neglectful mother who my father rescued me from. He was very much my protector, but be also had a horrible temper that could flip on for the smallest thing. Growing up with him was truly like walking on eggshells. I think a lot if the "scanning" of people and groups you describe could be that 6s are constantly stuck living in survival mode.
I'm a 6w5 INTJ. Being introverted I am unable to find so many people who can share my experiences day to day being a 6. Reading comments of fellow 6s who have mentioned their traumatic childhood experiences & anxiety issues in their adulthood gives me a sense of belonging
As a 6W7. I sure am loving this. It totally nailed me down, but it also helps me to learn the things that I need to be aware of and the things that I can change here. Thanks so much I am appreciating all that I am learning here and I’m also learning about my sisters and my children and how to understand where they’re coming from.❤
I have been constantly preparing for a fight, Conflicted. It's so exhausting being afraid all the time. This video has been a slap across the face to beware of my behaviours. Thank you I am feeling positive about the future for the 1st time in years.
6w5 here, this was way more informative and spot on then I was expecting. I indeed tend to get very caught up it into "isms" and I'm hyperattentive towards geopolitics.
Thank you. I'm a 6w5 and I dont trust anyone! I often say to my husband ''You, the people, you are weird'' Ha ha. I learn of others mistakes. I trust the statistics ( my statics). I dont vote because I love freedom. I have 0 friends. I love the nature and the animals. I have never said so much ''I'' in my life. haha
For me, being a 6w7 is like having a split personality. The 6 sees that the cat isn't eating right and thinks they are dying prematurely, while the 7 tells me not to be so fearful and it will all be fine. :P I ping-pong between negativity and positivity, expecting the worst and then dismissing those thoughts, being angry about politics and then refusing not to think about it, etc.
As a 9 I find it super helpful as well to learn about my wing numbers and the integration/disintegration numbers, in order to see what to watch out for, or what potential there is for development
I’ve been told by many people “you live in your head too much”, too accurate, it’s scary. The ending of what you said really helped me, thank you so much. If I had to add a quote to describe us it would be “anything that can go wrong will go wrong”
As a 6w5, I very much see the threat (don’t believe in “evil”) in power structures and political tribes. I do NOT believe in typical family values, as I’ve been no-contact with mine for years. I’m always threatened by people wanting to limit rights, and I’m skeptical of any thought or idea that originated or was influenced by any type of religious dogma. I generally try to promote peace and harmony yet find myself in endless Facebook fights about politics and religion and feel compelled to continue defending my position until everyone hates me. It’s fun.
French viewer here. Still hesitating between 7w6 and 6w7 for myself. Your videos are helping a lot, though. Thank you as always for your insight, Dr LaHue.
Hi! 6w7 here! I wanted to like this video twice. Hahaha! What you said about childhood resonated. Lately I wondered if I was really a 9 and what you said about moving towards 9 gave me hope that I might be making progress on improving myself. Thank you for this video. =)
6w5 find security in a community with commonly held ideas (not necessarily hanging out with those people but alining themselves with their ideas)…6w7 find security in a group of common (the same) people maybe?
My sister (6) lived with our dad when our parents split up I was only 4 years old. My dad was abused as a child, he went to the marines. He has always taught us that the world is a scary place and very dangerous place, & to be prepared for the worst. I believe this is what made my sister into a 6.
Wow this has been so beneficial for me. I'm a 6w5. I'm definitely see things black and white. I have a problem with authority that abuses it and I'm always looking for ways to problem solve.
I'm 6w7 but I can lean into the 6w5 for sure. I'm a big researcher & have "bought into" organizations only to be disillusioned & then I drop 'em like a hot potato. I always seem to be the one who sees the disaster about to happen before anyone else or that someone is not trustworthy. I've been vindicated on that many times! But I'm pretty funny & have always had a close group of friends or make friends wherever I go & I'm not afraid to have adventures so yeah, definitely a w7 first! & I must be a counterphobic 6 because I'm pretty decisive. I need closure so I'll research the heck out of something in order to make a decision asap.
What I find so interesting is how much our past/upbringing influence this. I have developmental trauma and ptsd so the core fear of not being safe is something I relate to. I have done a lot of work on myself and definitely am in more of the healthy 6 mode where I am not always anxious or waiting for what will go wrong next. that being said I am still working through the self doubt and definitely seek counsel when making decisions. Its interesting though because I feel as if I am an extroverted 6 w 5. I love research, I love just facts and being very straightforward. I also am always rooting for the underdog. I am an introvert in the sense I need alone time to recharge but I love community and having a strong group of friends. there are so many variables its fascinating
I took the test on Enneagram Institute… originally thought i was a ONE but didn’t sit well so … the test revealed 6w5. WoW - THIS makes sense. So important to know all the types & probably take test POINTS: my inner anxiety (Russ Hudson calls it beyond fear … an ANGST. ) I feel as a part. of me .. I liken it to the constant hum when living close to electrical power plants or the like … the angst/anxiety resides within & is constant. I NOW know I can learn to live with this & override it. Not get stuck in it. Great information ❣️🙏
I'm definatrly a 6w7 who likes to spend time in my 5 wing at times as well. I have been well aware of the enneagram for over 25 years. You have a good understanding of the 6 as I know it - I found myself nodding and chuckling throughout. Your understanding of our struggles with authority is a little different than mine. What you described is probably true of many sixes, but to offer another pov, in my experience, as well as other sixes, our issue with authority is founded on trust or mistrust. If we trust our authority figure we can relax and bask in their safety. We will fotgive their imperfections in a heartbeat if they have proven themselves as trustworthy. and competent, or effective, or compassionate, or whatever it is that the six values. We will give them our loyalty and undying support. Now, if we assess our authority figure as untrustworthy, or negative in anyway that threatens us or others, we then become vigilant, the phobics become passive aggressive and the counterphobes become oppositional. We also usually like to point out their flaws to all peers involved. Then their every imperfection becomes the focus. Also, procrastination is our middle name - you nailed that. And Im sure it started out as a fear thing because thats our motivation for most things, but it is bigger than fear. Im not afraid of how well I can mop my floor, grade papers, do laundry, make a doctor's appointment, etc. but I will procrastinate all of them if tired or simply feeling lazy. The thing with procrastination for a 6 is the intensity and amount is directly affected by how healthy we are at that time in life. The irony is we often get out of it my disintergrating to the chaos of 3 and going into overdrive. The struggle is real :)
I'm a sp 6w5 and my childhood was exactly like you pointed out. My dad was an alcoholic 7w8 (sometimes fun, sometimes super aggressive), and my mom is an authoritatian 1w2, so me as a child, had to learn to plan every action or move every time, so I wouldn't irritate them and suffer the consequences. I've become a very shy and introverted person, also developed anxiety disorder (that I still have) and now I can see how it still perpetuates to my adulthood. And I must tell that sometimes it is very exhausting to be like this all the time, but this is something that for me is very hard to escape this pattern and not be like this. It's hard for me to believe in people if they show any kind of inconsistency, and I tend to pull away from those. But it's very hard because I always end up alone. About politics, I live in a Latin country, it's hard to have good politicians so I don't believe in any of them. But I put a lot of value on escadinavian country's system and I think they're practically perfect. But I know I'm wrong, and it's so hard for me to not have this dichotomy. Thanks for the video, it's was very helpful.
To add to the end to this video: Just for one minute, close your eyes, breath and imagine how would it feel to be safe...how does it actually feel, to not be cautious...? For me, probably a 6 doublewing 5, wing 7, it just feels so calm and finally peaceful! Thank you for this great video...
I’m a 6w7 and I tend to watch a lot of political content when I want to avoid being controlling with family/friends because politics is less emotional and easier to navigate than my personal relationships. I lean into my 5 wing to escape my obligations, but this is a new trait I’m developing.
I'm infp 6w5 with some 7 wing tendencies (the humor and I don't gaf about world problems because it's just too much I can't change. I'm devastated by the horrible things that happen in the world I don't know how it is so messed up.) I'm very conflicted all the time. Knowing I'm gonna die if I go, or knowing someone is going to hurt me/hate me/disappoint me/think poorly of me or just threaten me in some way. But then having no solid proof, I drive myself and my close loved ones nuts. The only things that make me not overthink is alcohol, weed, Xanax, and scary movies. But I only drink at parties and I don't have the drugs. So I'm constantly watching scary movies and listening to scary stories to fall asleep. I used to have very vivid, gory nightmares of finding dead people in my bedroom, being lost in the woods and it's getting dark, bad arguments that would end in murder, my mom telling me she hates me and I'm pathetic (I have a good relationship with my mom and dad though in real life), body parts dangling from a clothesline, sea/lake monsters, a funeral with people laughing with weird creatures, my dead pets following me but they were like little cat zombies, having intestines forced down my throat while it was still connected to someone and I was in a classroom wearing only rain boots (I've never even had rain boots!), escaping a kidnapping but being stalked by the psychopath...hundreds more weird disgusting scenarios - every single night of my life since I was pretty young. Like so real I felt like I was really there and didn't know I was dreaming, I never felt like I slept! I've only had maybe 2 or 3 good dreams ever but they made me cry so hard because they weren't real when I woke up. Now since I listen to scary stories to fall asleep, I don't dream at all.
I know a handful of 6s, and I think the authority and fear issue with all of them stems from a tyrannical or abusive or unstable type father figure in life- usually tied to substance abuse, probably not always. The archetypal father figure is one's protector in life, so when they instead get the opposite where father is an actual threat or danger then that profoundly affects them.
This video was very informative and helpful to me. I'm a 6w7, but certainly see some wing 5 in me. It's hilarious enough that the type 6 is a walking contradiction, but I'm also an ENTP with HSP (Bless Dr. Elaine Aron). I didn't take any offence to your words whatsoever, but your care is appreciated!
I know a (perhaps unhealthy) 6w7 that always has a new boyfriend lined up before breaking up with the current one. For her, the man is her security blanket against this scary world. Also thanks I now understand 6w5s much better.
gosh i feel so split between both the w5 and w7. i think when im happier and more secure, I behave more like a 6w7, but when i'm more stressed and vigilant, i behave more like a 6w5. however, if i get too stressed, i lean into the w7 need for intimate connection and reassurance. generally though, i like to avoid my problems rather than probe them (as i often do) and im an awful procrastinator. yet, unlike a w7, im not as concerned about my personal relationships, i have my small circle who i can count on - but i don't invest in it or rely on it unless im very concerned about something. i can feel very divided between not trusting myself, and not trusting others, though the circumstance can determine which way i lean. the more I evaluate myself, the more I realize how much of a contradiction I am lol. those questions/comments at the end are super helpful and reassuring!
I'm INTP however, I'm also a 6w7 sp/sx. I am aligned to be super introverted even though I have a 7 wing. And I am. But at work, I have to be extroverted. I probably come off as quite fake at times. But, it is so draining. I've been in this job for 18 years so I think I've developed coping mechanisms. However, these coping mechanisms will eventually deteriorate.
6w5 ENTP here and I do the same thing, I find I can “turn a switch on” and be this outgoing charismatic professional but outside of work, not so much. Lot of misconceptions when it comes to the ENTP, remember; it’s how we gather and express information, this doesn’t always mean we’re ecstatic over social situations.
INTP 6w5 and I totally relate. I grew up unknowingly masquerading as an extravert, emulating my ESTJ dad who appeared to be my safe space from my manipulative and toxic mom. Decades later, I realized he was the primary enabler for her while also steering me to become a mini version of him. It wasn’t until my 30s that I realized how unnatural and exhausting it was to live as an extraverted follower when my nature is the total opposite. It’s nice that I can wear the extravert mask seamlessly, but the damage it does to my sense of self and boundaries is severe. In a people-oriented job, I’m blurring those lines every day. It’s no wonder I get home and want to space out all night forgetting reality to an unhealthy degree. Life of extremes, I guess. But I totally agree with your take.
Have been on a four year Regeneration recovery and therapy journey after decades of psychological abuse, this is an important piece of the puzzle. Thank you for pointing me to the One who is my safety.
The procrastination bit is so relatable. Wanting to be 100% sure and overthinking. Start moving and course correct along the way. I like that. I think I'm a 9, not a 6, but I'm not 100% sure. 😂 the worry I have about moving forward without being 100% sure is that I'll do something I can't take back. I see this come up with my relationship to money. Like, if I buy this thing we kind of need, that I've researched and maybe is even on sale, then I won't have that money later. If things are tight afterward I'll feel guilty for spending money, especially if it was something we *could* live without. Like, I don't *really* need a winter coat. I could just double up on jackets. So even though it's on sale, I still feel anxious about spending anything. So I'll procrastinate, until my significant other recognizes the need and goes and buys the thing, at full pice, right now, because, "we need it." 🙃 I'm working on reassuring myself that if I recognize something as a need (even if not life-or-death need, haha) it's okay to buy it, and long-term I will probably be saving us money.
I'm a six for sure, but I was pretty sure I was a 6w5, but now when I hear they procrastinate and are unsure about my own plans sounds so me as well. I'm so confused!
@babybop In my experience, as during your life you gain confidence that you are loved and it is safe to love and trust others, you may move from introverted to the extroverted and more careless side of your personality. It may be also the sign of your growth, because unless we are mature, we tend to look down on the other wing of our type instead of embracing it.
So fun fact, a lot of people switch wings through their life. If you were primarily 5 in your youth, you'll tend to be more 7 wing in your older years.
@@Seca95 me too...stuff never works out, life is impossible so I dont care to make new friends these days. People dont deserve my loyalty is what I conclude but that backfires too...
I’m leaning more towards 6w5 but my problem is I have done stuff when I was younger that a w5 wouldn’t do and I tend to be my bubbly and loud around people I feel comfortable with
Wow. I am 100% of what you just said for a 6w5. Same childhood experience. And I also only buy Toyota because its RELIABLE unlike domestic!! Have you been spying on my life?!!! I do believe that marrying a 9 thirty years ago has saved my life.
Hi. So I am an INTP and every time I take the enegram, I get either 5w4 or 6w5. And I’m not quite sure why. Is it possible to identify with both? Because I finery with both of what you said in this video
I’m a SP 6w7 but I don’t get the “they’re coming to get me” part. I’ve never feared that some big group is out to get me or us. My fears and worst case scenario thinking are on a more present and personal level. I also don’t have an either/or for or against mentality. I can see the grey and usually fall somewhere in between. It seems like maybe you talk about the social 6 most. The 3 types of 6’s are all very different.
So Tom, I gathered that unlike the usual 6, the 6 w 7 isn't looking to get connected with an organization or the group, and instead is into individual relations. Because I wasn't relating to the Groupy orientation associated with the 6, but then I understood from you that the 6w7 would be more into indivisuals than groups. Could you maybe elaborate on that difference sometime in the future? Thanks again, much appreciated.
Dr. Tom, I'm watching this again after five months, it is obvious that I'm definitely a 6w7. However, I have a friend who is a 6w5, who is super-judgmental about so many other types of people -- especially in the political and religious areas. Glad to be me!
Thank you .I'm only starting on the enneigram journey.iv being in alcoholics anonymous for 13 years and was woundering if alot are 6wing7 like myself.we find out on our journey the we have driven by 100 forms of fear self delusion and self seeking.fear is shot true the fabric of our existence.iv being listening to Richard rohr on his talks on the enneigram.was woundering do people tend to be spiritual seekers and have some self awareness before able to answer the questions honestly to find out what number they are.im a 6 so I'm seeking clarification 😂😂god bless
I am not sure I understand the question... I think your asking if 6's struggle with alcoholism? Not sure, but I can tell you 7's tend to be the most addicted type. So with a 7 wing...
My results in tests were 1w9 and Type 5, but both fears os those types fit for me. When you talked about parents that change their behavior in the next day i could relate do that. I live with my father and her ex wife, both of them in one day were cool and the next were agressive. In school i have "friends" but they aren't my friends. I believe i am a 6w5.
I also tend to score 5, and occasionally 1, on tests. I took a very different kind of test and got 6. It was programmed to account for 6's indecisiveness lol. My parents...oh boy. Mother was demanding, volatile, critical. Father was stoic, suspicious, very caring, but also withdrawn.
I am married to a six and I just can’t walk him through those issues. All the words and the negative ideas make me absolutely crazy. Especially after a very long marriage.
Question. What are some questions a person could ask themselves to discern whether they're a healthy 6 or a stressed 9? I listened to your type 9 wings video and this one and I identify closely with both on most points.
I had the same problem. I suggest you to look into tritype theory. maybe youre 9 and 6 are very close, just like me (i'm a 693 tritype). Do the katherine fauvre test and check out her enneagram 6 and 9 advanced panel videos on YT.
Thank you for sharing all this information Explains so much about my relationships. That said, I will stay far away from unhealthy 6's of either wing in future... 🙈
Here are some names that came to my mind. Also I included a link to more people: 6w5: Oscar from The Office, Glenn Beck, Mark Levine (Fox News), 6w7: Woody (Tom Hanks) Toy Story, Spencer from King of Queens, George Castanza from Seinfeld, Flounder from Little Mermaid, Anna from Frozen www.oocities.org/lifexplore/enfame.htm
From the enneagram institute "Krishnamurti, Johannes Brahms, Mark Twain, Sigmund Freud, J. Edgar Hoover, Richard Nixon, Robert F. Kennedy, Malcolm X, George H.W. Bush, Diana, Princess of Wales, Prince Harry, J.R.R. Tolkien, John Grisham, Mike Tyson, Bruce Springsteen, U2’s Bono, Melissa Etheridge, Eminem, Oliver Stone, Michael Moore, Spike Lee, Marilyn Monroe, Robert De Niro, Dustin Hoffman, Mark Wahlberg, Woody Allen, Diane Keaton, Mel Gibson, Sally Field, Tom Hanks, Meg Ryan, Julia Roberts, Jennifer Aniston, Ellen Page, Paul Rudd, Sarah Jessica Parker, Ben Affleck, Hugh Laurie, Katie Holmes, David Letterman, Jay Leno, Ellen Degeneres, Andy Rooney, Katie Couric, Newt Gingrich, Alex Jones (Infowars), Rush Limbaugh, Chris Rock, Lewis Black, Larry David, Seinfeld’s “George Costanza,” Lord of the Rings’ “Frodo Baggins”
I must also say this goes SO contrary & pushes hard anxiety on my numerology.. I am a DOYBLE Master #11 (LP & Destiny). A 29/1@ is meant to be of service to humanity, mastering the craft (for me writing & speaking in overcoming obstacles/adversity .. known/felt this since I was young) In partnership with someone/ something. Partnership = 2 Service to humanity = 9 Mastering = 11 (double intensity for my double) I have come SO far in life, but it’s never enough in my mind, never satisfied, like I’m running out of time & my message has not come out to the masses - like the inner ‘hum’ of anxiety of the SIX, I have the inner ‘hum’ of using myself & sharing my gifts/challenges with others in an inspirational way. BUT, my SIX fights me the whole way … such a TUG OF WAR from within … EXHAUSTING! Thing is I never give up, I rest/plateau but keep going … usually looking to the perceived experts … 😵💫 It’s like a dog chasing it’s still … keep going around in circles … Thanks for this …
Whoa, according to your vid, I am 6w7 not 6w5. :o even though I am so introverted... But political or corporate stuff was never so important to me, I don't care for global conspiracies, my fears are all on the personal level... And most other points of the 7 wing are true for me, too. Especially the distracting and overeating stuff. But maybe I can just access both wings. The whole video in itself was very helpful and relatable. Thank you
It's interesting how the Enneagram can reveal different aspects of our personalities! It's perfectly fine to resonate with traits from both wings. I'm glad the video helped you understand yourself better!
My sister is a 6w5 and she has a "go bag" for herself and a "go carrier" for her cat! I think it's so amazing when I run into all her preparation and I admire it, but I can feel like I'm REALLY dropping the ball with my life. (I'm a 7w6 with three children, and I don't have anything for emergencies except lots of wool blankets and a wood burning fireplace. 🤔 Maybe she should come to us, because in an emergency we're staying put 😅) I'm trying to get influenced by her, and now I've got an "important stuff" binder with passports and birth certificates, etc in a drawer. It's better than it was! She's not any kind of conspiracy theorist, though. She's VERY neutral even though I can tell she has opinions bubbling under the surface, and does well in her government job where she has to get along with people from all parties. She does get a bit ferocious on certain topics, but mostly she's pretty mature in her 9 direction, I suppose. She's super smart, I like and trust her a lot. I don't really follow the news much, so often I go to her to find out what's going on.
Your sister seems like a rockstar with her emergency preparedness. It's cool that she's got you thinking about being more organized too. Keep learning from each other!
Same! I'm a 6 to almost have equal parts of the first 2 subtypes for the 6 and almost none of the sexual subtype. Now, here I have a lot of the wing 5 characteristics, but I also am and have always been a relationship person, and I fear loss of relationship (rejection or abandonment). So in many ways, I identify with much of the wing 7, but it's the lowest number on my test.
Howdy Tom, Thank you for all the great sharing you're doing. Personalities are just another sign of The Almighty's Greatness. Like you, I also have a big family and am using the ennea knowledge you're sharing to learn more about the individual differences between my kids, and even colleague teachers & lecturers where I teach . I'd really appreciate it if you could make a video specific to the counterphobic sixes, for lack of any substantial content about them; on youtube at least. Most of what's out there depicts a phobic six, & kind of neglects the major differences a counterphobic six would feel. I also remember you saying you were a counter seven. Have you done a video on that? If not that's also a needed one. I'm an INFJ, & after listening to many of your vids and others too, on the enneagram, I'm prettysure I'm a counterphobic six. Keep the great vids going. Your sharing is genuinely appreciatiated. Ta-rik (INFJ)
When I am finished with the wings videos, I am going to do the instincts which will cover the counter-phobic 6. Self-preservation, Sexual and Social instincts of each type. I am the Social 7 which I refer to as the "counter" 7. I will explain that in detail in the instinct videos. Blessings.
Great; & The Lord's blessings upon you too. So would the social 8 also be a counter 8? Because it seems they're more smiley than the more typical eights.
Right and wrong definitely do exist. Plenty of people who follow what's wrong, aren't necessarily bad people, but they are misguided. Correction only serves to make us better. Not all seek correction, but the world would be a better place if people were more open to consideration.
I'm a 6w5 and have always struggled with making decisions. That concept of "making a move when you're 70% or so sure" is so profound for me. Learning from the mistakes instead of striving for perfection and freezing from decision paralysis.
Me too.

thx bro
@@omokok1877 My pleasure.
@Travis Bickle My pleasure. It wasn't a problem.

70% sure does sound terrifying, indeed. As a 6w5, it kind of sounds like we're doomed to alienate people until we die. I sometimes hate how accurate the enneagram test was. But its also a relief to understand myself at a deeper level.

Also thank you for the videos Dr. Tom! They are fantastic
@@AMcDub0708 Well said! I agree completely.

Thanks so much I am appreciating all that I am learning here and I’m also learning about my sisters and my children and how to understand where they’re coming from.❤
*Insert "I'm in this picture and I don't like it" meme* LOL
I have been constantly preparing for a fight, Conflicted. It's so exhausting being afraid all the time. This video has been a slap across the face to beware of my behaviours. Thank you I am feeling positive about the future for the 1st time in years.
6w5 here, this was way more informative and spot on then I was expecting. I indeed tend to get very caught up it into "isms" and I'm hyperattentive towards geopolitics.
You are the best person online who truly explains enneagrams!!! I have been so lost but you finally gave me some understanding.
Omg SAME
YES!! As a 6w7, I have said this so many times!!! It’s like you took the words out of my mouth!
Same!
Totally with you. Yes it’s me too.
Sameeeee😢
It’s fun.
Man, you sound like my husband so much. He’s definitely 6w5
24:38 6w7
Can relate ❣️
This was crazy helpful for me. Course correct, loved that.
Glad it helped!
Spot on I feel this way. I swing from a 6,5 and a 6,7
I've gained so much insight on myself. I'm glad I watched your video.
I took the test on Enneagram Institute… originally thought i was a ONE but didn’t sit well so … the test revealed 6w5. WoW - THIS makes sense. So important to know all the types & probably take test
POINTS: my inner anxiety (Russ Hudson calls it beyond fear … an ANGST. ) I feel as a part.
Thanks so much, Dr. Tom, for your insight. I'm a proud 6w7!
I'm sort of new to this stuff, but its freaking mw out on how accurate his descriptions are and how close they are to me
To add to the end to this video:
Just for one minute, close your eyes, breath and imagine how would it feel to be safe...how does it actually feel, to not be cautious...?
For me, probably a 6 doublewing 5, wing 7, it just feels so calm and finally peaceful!
Thank you for this great video...
I seem to be a blend of 8w9 and 6w5. I often score as an 8w9 with a tritype of 863 but 6w5 feels so relatable on many levels.
I’m a 6w7 and I tend to watch a lot of political content when I want to avoid being controlling with family/friends because politics is less emotional and easier to navigate than my personal relationships.
I lean into my 5 wing to escape my obligations, but this is a new trait I’m developing.
I am scared of how accurate this is LOL I got typed as a 6w7 and now I understand why. Help me.
I'm infp 6w5 with some 7 wing tendencies (the humor and I don't gaf about world problems because it's just too much I can't change. I'm devastated by the horrible things that happen in the world I don't know how it is so messed up.)
I'm very conflicted all the time.
I can relate.
I'm 6w7....with a burst of 6w5. thank you for your insight! this was incredibly helpful! You're very at explaining this!
As a 6w5 myself, living with a buncha sixes are the worst.
Thank you for pointing me to the One who is my safety.
omg this is so me I am screaming inside! Thought I was 4w5 but I guess not lol
Wow, I didn't realize I trust certain podcasts to tell me the truth until you just said it haha
Very helpful for me. Could you elaborate on phobic and counter phobic 6's? Pretty sure I'm counter phobic and made it difficult to type myself.
Yes, I will cover that topic in the next series of videos on the Instincts of each type. (3 Subtypes of each type.)
@@twlahue thankyou!
Excellent about not trusting and doubting others. Trying to set new brain patterns/routes even though so hard wired.
I am so happy I find my type! It took a long time. I also thought I was a 7 at a moment, but 6w7 is the perfect fit😌
This is spot on, amazing work! Thank you
I'm a six for sure, but I was pretty sure I was a 6w5, but now when I hear they procrastinate and are unsure about my own plans sounds so me as well. I'm so confused!
can wings change? the way you described 6w5 sounds exactly like my younger self, but now i feel more like a 6w7.
I feel the other way around, that I went from 6w7 to 6w5 now.
@@Seca95 me too...stuff never works out, life is impossible so I dont care to make new friends these days. People dont deserve my loyalty is what I conclude but that backfires too...
I think I’ve always been a w5 but at times I just felt more social if im around people I’ve been comfortable around
I definitely see myself going back and forth between 6w5 and 6w7. Sometimes I make me tired when I do a lot of the back and forth. 😀
I'm a very unhealthy neurotic 6 w 5. I always thought it was anxiety.
it can be, you should go see a doctor to be sure!
It probably is, Go search for it
I’m leaning more towards 6w5 but my problem is I have done stuff when I was younger that a w5 wouldn’t do and I tend to be my bubbly and loud around people I feel comfortable with
Really FANTASTIC insight! Thank you very much :)
Glad it was helpful!
I just told my friend that! We are the best prepared for the zombie apocalypse.
Just realised i have a really strong 5 wing... Really accurate. Never thought id be 6w5
Hi dr Tom, can u please make a video about difference between 6w7 and 7w6?
I'm not sure if it's a Type 6 thing, but I noticed the same T-shirt for Most of the Podcast. 😅😅 Great Podcast!
So I shouldn’t be watching crime shows then? 🤣🤷🏻♀️ I’m a 6w7 and this was spot on. Even down to the volatile father piece. Thank you for this!
Glad to help.
What a great video thanks for sharing your knowledge with us 😊😊
So Tom, I gathered that unlike the usual 6, the 6 w 7 isn't looking to get connected with an organization or the group, and instead is into individual relations. Because I wasn't relating to the Groupy orientation associated with the 6, but then I understood from you that the 6w7 would be more into indivisuals than groups.
Could you maybe elaborate on that difference sometime in the future?
Thanks again, much appreciated.
Thanks...will do.
This was enlightening 😳
Dr. Tom, I'm watching this again after five months, it is obvious that I'm definitely a 6w7. However, I have a friend who is a 6w5, who is super-judgmental about so many other types of people -- especially in the political and religious areas. Glad to be me!
Aren’t you judging him?
And 9w8...it’s a fun one!!
9w8 the "Referee" or the "Advisor."
Hi tom.sorry probably wasent very clear.thank you for your reply.🙏
My results in tests were 1w9 and Type 5, but both fears os those types fit for me. When you talked about parents that change their behavior in the next day i could relate do that. I live with my father and her ex wife, both of them in one day were cool and the next were agressive. In school i have "friends" but they aren't my friends. I believe i am a 6w5.
I also tend to score 5, and occasionally 1, on tests. I took a very different kind of test and got 6. It was programmed to account for 6's indecisiveness lol. My parents...oh boy. Mother was demanding, volatile, critical. Father was stoic, suspicious, very caring, but also withdrawn.
and! What would it be like a intp 6w5?
I am married to a six and I just can’t walk him through those issues. All the words and the negative ideas make me absolutely crazy. Especially after a very long marriage.
I’m a 9.
Hi Tom! From your experience and research, what's the best match for a Type 6!
Can you do the difference between 6w7 vs 7w6
I’m so guilty of the all good/all bad mindset.
Can’t wait for 8w7😁
8w7 the "Independent" That is my daughter Grace.
Hi! Could an INFJ 6 be a wing 7?
Yes...But, make sure that you are not a 9
Great video. I’ve been wondering if I’m a 6 or 9- and this helped me to see that I’m closer to a 9. Thank you!
Could an ISTJ 6 be a wing 7 ??
Of course! Lots of ISJs are 6w7s. :)
Thank you for sharing all this information
Explains so much about my relationships.
That said, I will stay far away from unhealthy 6's of either wing in future... 🙈
You got this!
Wow first three seconds and I'm in love with the color palette of the video
Excellent!
Many thanks!
Which famous people are 6w5 and 6w7? Thanks for another great video. I like the way you present information.
Here are some names that came to my mind. Also I included a link to more people:
6w5: Oscar from The Office, Glenn Beck, Mark Levine (Fox News),
6w7: Woody (Tom Hanks) Toy Story, Spencer from King of Queens, George Castanza from Seinfeld, Flounder from Little Mermaid, Anna from Frozen

I must also say this goes SO contrary & pushes hard anxiety on my numerology.. I am a DOYBLE Master #11 (LP & Destiny). A 29/1@ is meant to be of service to humanity, mastering the craft (for me writing & speaking in overcoming obstacles/adversity .. known/felt this since I was young)
In partnership with someone/ something.
Partnership = 2
Service to humanity = 9
Mastering = 11 (double intensity for my double)
I have come SO far in life, but it’s never enough in my mind, never satisfied, like I’m running out of time & my message has not come out to the masses - like the inner ‘hum’ of anxiety of the SIX, I have the inner ‘hum’ of using myself & sharing my gifts/challenges with others in an inspirational way.
BUT, my SIX fights me the whole way … such a TUG OF WAR from within … EXHAUSTING!
Thing is I never give up, I rest/plateau but keep going … usually looking to the perceived experts … 😵💫
It’s like a dog chasing it’s still … keep going around in circles …
Thanks for this …
Whoa, according to your vid, I am 6w7 not 6w5.
🤔 Maybe she should come to us, because in an emergency we're staying put 😅)
I'm trying to get influenced by her, and now I've got an "important stuff" binder with passports and birth certificates, etc in a drawer.
Keep learning from each other!
im a 6w5 and I am an esthetician. if you're a 6w5, what is your occupation/career?
Im new to ennegram, is enneagram all about the negatives?? Sure seems like it
Does your wing have to be the highest number of the two on an enneagram test? I feel like a 6w7 but 7 is my lowest score on the test.
Because it seems they're more smiley than the more typical eights.
the way you present info 👌
Great information!
Right and wrong definitely do exist. Plenty of people who follow what's wrong, aren't necessarily bad people, but they are misguided. Correction only serves to make us better. Not all seek correction, but the world would be a better place if people were more open to consideration.
6W5 -- totaled my car last week and have to decide what to buy next -- haha! Exhibiting all the “yikes" traits of my type...
Right on!
@@twlahue 🤣 At least I understand my reactions, and that does help to modify the extremes...
