Since you've begun your anime journey, it's time to see the other side of anime. The heartwrenching side. You need to watch A Silent Voice. It doesn't even have to be a reaction.
It'll hurt you. It'll make you cry.
It'll make you a better person after the end.
Tbh now I just want you to react to more Hatsune Miku songs. Especially by certain producers like Deco27
OMG, I couldn't believe that I could still hear Miku voice after 10 years.
It brings me back my memory. I recommend your should watch the whole live show of Miku... It's awesome
After all these years, I've still loved her so much.
I think Japanese share their love through food.....Gifts of food are a common sign of respect or love. The dancing is probably a live MOCAP suit.
japanese often use metaphors to express themselves because they don't like to adress things directly. It doesn't have to be about food but we see a lot of these. There is even an anime movie called "I Want to Eat Your Pancreas" and guess what - it is not about the direct meaning ;) . There is a another famous older expression "Tsuki ga kirei" - this literally means the moon is beautiful but the other meaning behind is " I love you".
Hastune Miku has actually existed since 2007
You mean Hatsun Miku
@@xenom4359 I think you both mean Hatsune Miku 😁
Its actually way before that time
@@Yoshikage-Kira_75 nah fam, Matsune Hiku
😮
On the topic of her sounding way better than something like Siri, it's important to note that the artist (supercell in this case) puts a lot of work into fine-tuning the effects on the voice to make it sound as good as possible. Sometimes, they'll even add breaths into key points to give it a more realistic impression.
When you've listened to a bunch of vocaloid songs, you can really tell the difference in the artists talents. Miku is essentially a digital instrument, and she really popularized digital singers (there are others besides Vocaloid).
Another note, you'll find that some really good lyricists and composers got a lot of practice on vocaloid before moving on to working with talented vocalists.
It also helps that Japanese is a relatively "flat" language. i.e Unlike English, each phoneme always sounds the same, they don't get slightly altered when they're placed next to certain other phonemes. This means you can chop them up and re-arrange them and it doesn't sound _too_ jumbled-up.
@@fireaza That's not entirely true; Japanese has devoicing, for example, which only happens with the vowels "i" and "u" between voiceless consonants, but also doesn't happen all the time. Then there's the minefield that is the pronunciation of ん/ン, which can be n, m, ŋ, ɴ or a nasalisation of the preceding vowel (the last being why the Japanese currency is called "yen" overseas, but "en" in Japan).
Pitch accent doesn't really matter in singing.
That's amazing!
I am interested to check out another one as well and compare 💯❤️
@@GOTGames If you want to check again, really recommended for other Ryo (supercell) songs. He really knows how to make beautiful and meaningful songs.
@@abdullahabad4325 ryo is the best imo. He really knows how to trigger those feelings
fun fact: hatsune miku's voice provider (saki fujita) is also the voice of ymir from attack on titan
i did not know that
Hatsune Miku's voice provider* that's different from a VA
Think she did Assassination Classroom as Ritsui too
Now I'll look at the characters she voiced differently, knowing they were all voiced by the same person who voiced Hatsune Miku.
Or at least her voice was used and changed to become Hatsune Miku's
@@User25859 true... my bad
You would be suprised at how real she can sound with different producers tuning her
Exactly! I hope more people would think about this rather than just saying which vocaloid sounds most realistic. :)
yeah, Mitchie M is a must if you want to know how capable is Vocaloid to sound human
yeah she sounds most realistic with songs by avtechno imo
Mitchie M is amazing!
Kikuo is a beast at that too
Concerts today feature a VOCALOID vocalist projected onto a screen to make it seem like they are there in person. Mikus voice is completely computer generated. On the stage with them is a live band as well as back-up dancers in some cases.
The more you get into it, the more you'll be mind blown. They also have performances that feature more than 2 of them on one stage.
Nintendo does this for the Splatoon idols as well.
"Saki Fujita"
I cannot wait to keep exploring this rabbit hole! 💯❤️
Don't forget the occasional really crazy AR projection. The fact that people can create insubstantial light holograms to move in a three-dimensional space, rather than being just on a screen, is pretty crazy. That's like 20% of the way to holodecks from Star Trek. Now we just need to figure out how to harden light, and add textures, smells, tastes, and make those light constructs produce sound themselves.... Okay, maybe it's more like .2% of the way there, but a guy can dream, you know?
Actually. It's not completely. Computer generated. Voice samples are provided by Saki Fujita.
Senbonzakura (thousand cherry blossoms) is one of the most iconic Hatsune Miku songs if you want to check it out.
Definitely that is one of the most iconic and popular songs.
Also one with a truck load of history references in it! Which just makes it cooler xD
And Rolling Girl.
Was thinking about that song and, for further mind-blowing purposes, was thinking this would be a good search query:
Senbonzakura extreme perfect
Those who know, will likely know why. :)
@@EdrickV nah OSU's (and similar games) sound effects always ruin the song.
In regards to the food thing, this is definitely a case by case thing but it could be conveying a specific mood pertaining to the song. With Miku's "World is Mine" it's all about how the girl thinks she deserves the same treatment that would be expected of a Princess from the guy she likes/is dating. So the references to the shortcakes and premium pudding are sweets that are 1) usually very fresh and 2) expensive. So she's demanding that she be treated to the best sweets that she deserves as the princess of the relationship.
In other songs, food can easily be used as a euphemism. Think the usage of cream for a song with a more lusty or dirty meaning to it. And in many cases, it could just be about how good food is.
Food in general is a great meal for all the senses in Japanese culture so having a specific meal appear in media could be trying to convey the specific mood of that setting as well. A hearty warm meal of a bowl of oden could evoke the mood of a small but lively and warm atmosphere where friends and coworkers are hanging out while conversely an elegantly plated meal of traditional food could convey the beauty and refinery in enjoying the changing seasons from the different seasonal assortments of vegetables or fish. Some foods are things that typically are enjoyed as a comfort meal like a bowl of rice porridge and can evoke the warm heartfelt memories of a when one was younger and their parent may have cooked such a simple meal for them to get better and care for them. With Christmas songs from Japan, maybe you'll get a reference to a full meal of KFC or chicken along with a cake because it's the symbol for such gatherings, or a reference to freshly pounded mochi for new years. Traditional sugar candies like konpeito can be synonymous with childhood memories and joy while snacks like ramune soda, shaved ice, and watermelon would instantly evoke the feeling of summer.
Of course, that was all simply me describing foods that evoke specific meanings to me and my experiences as a Japanese person and not examples I specifically drew from songs, but these meanings evoked from food are pretty standard across a big chunk of Japan. Food evokes memories and the senses of the body and thus can be used quite well to convey specific emotions or images. And in the end, it depends on the song/media. Again, for a dirty song, food can be a descriptive device meant to evoke specific images whereas in some cases, maybe it really is just a song about how much someone likes a specific food. (Pretty certain there was a song about Tapioca that was floating around a couple years ago lmao).
Apologies for the paragraph but I hope this explanation helps!
Now this was a good ass comment. I felt those moods. I'm Texan/Southern-weird, and, all that Japanese-weird is so much fun and discombobulating.
The stuff about food evoking memories and conveying emotions is important, because Japanese pop music tends to favor "meaningful" lyrics a LOT more than Western pop does. That's something I've seen brought up in interviews with Japanese producers a few times. It's a lot harder to get a song to top over there if the lyrics are just nonsense that goes with the music.
Indeed, describing the time of year with specific food happens a lot from what i've noticed so far. Like, "It's summer, so its gotta be nagashi soumen, watermelon etc" or "Summer is ending, so its festival foods, chocobanana or yakisoba etc", and reading this was quite the lesson, thanks.
@@Anonymous-td9fl Glad my comment helped!! I'm pleasantly surprised to see so many people agree with it or enjoy it :D.
@@TheLordTash Highly agreed. It's really clear to see with the romance genre of songs too I think. Many songs in America appear to focus on the raw emotion while Japanese romance songs appear to focus on the memories via symbolism/allusion (granted, this isn't the case for all but in a simple glance, this is what I've noticed).
In terms of nonsense though, I feel like I'm generally know more songs that are fun nonsense in Japan though. Again, my music taste is quite heavily leaning towards Japan and online producers which may be affecting my case, but I can name many songs that have random content/is just fun but I can't do the same for American songs. So it's very interesting to me that you saw that being brought up by Japanese producers and interviews as I never would've guessed that was the case XD
Hatsune Miku has a voice provider. Her name is Saki Fujita. Almost every single Vocaloid that you hear has a Voice Actor who agrees to give phonetic samples to make the Vocaloids with. KAITO has Naoto Fuuga. MEIKO has Meiko Haigou. Rin and Len Kagamine both had their voices provided by Asami Shimoda. Etc.
Yes, they are holograms on the stage. The band behind her is known as her band and they do tour around just to play the instruments for all her concerts. There is usually a segment that introduces the band members during each concert.
Yes, she still tours. She was supposed to have one in like, Florida I think back in like 2020? I had a friend who bought a ticket and was super excited and then covid hit and it was canceled and they never rescheduled the concert. My friend was DEVASTATED. Like, she cried for weeks about it.
The holograms have changed so much over the years for the concerts. You should really react to the evolution of the holograms for their shows over the years.
I believe Slave is a Meiko song. PLEASE check out Meiko, Kaito, Rin, Len, VFlower, Fukase, Oliver, Otomachi Una and Gakupo. For Gakupo, I recommend Dancing Samurai. For Oliver I recommend Wysteria. VFlower I recommend Lower Ones Eyes. For Kaito and Meiko I would recommend On The Rocks. Rin I would say try The Lost One Is Weeping. Len I would say Embarrassment Hiding Adolescence. And Fukase, well, honestly he is just so solid you could do an English or Japanese song, but I would say try the song Cause I'm a Liar or the song Near.
Kaito is my daughters favourite. Loves him so much our puppy is even called Kaito ❤
@@jannette771 Aww, that is adorable! Yes, Kaito is quite popular with older teenage and young adult women. Len is usually more popular with younger teen girls, but Len is still my favorite even though I'm an adult. XD
@@Sakachi18 my favorite is megurine luka
Not mentioning Luka smh
Yeah.... I had tickets to see Miku in Chicago for that same tour, canceled from covid. Watching this reaction actually brought back how sad that made me for missing out. :(
The ‘Story of Evil’ series of songs is apart of my favourite list of vocaloid songs.
The first four in the series includes a story plot from the perspective of different characters in the story.
1. ‘The Daughter of Evil’ - Kagamine Rin (from the POV of the evil princess)
2. ‘The Servant of Evil’ - Kagamine Len and Kagamine Rin (POV of the evil princess’ servant)
3. ‘Regret Message’ - Kagamine Rin (POV of the evil princess after the events of songs 1 and 2)
4. ‘The Daughter of White’ - Yowane Haku (Hatsune Miku), Kagamine Rin (POV of a bystander of the events until now)
I recommended watching these in eng sub as the story is intriguing and with each different perspective you gain a new layer of understanding of the story.
YEES
The lore of the Story of Evil actually gets deeper when looking at the other songs in the Evillious Chronicles
Servant of Evil makes me cry every time
There's a huge pane of glass or plastic up on stage, and a massive set of projectors casts her up on it. That's how you can see the stage behind her, and in some shows you'll even see dancers or musicians behind the glass just to throw people off.
This far back, a lot of the motion was actually just hand animated, but there's a lot of mocap today.. not certain which this was.
You should definitely check out some newer concerts, there was a big one in London a few years back that had a great audience view recorded.
In Japan almost no one ever says the words I Love You. When couples confess their love for each other they say Dai Suki, or Big Like. I like you a lot. So sex and romance are embarrassing topics. So they get replaced with food, a lot! You go theough some Shonen Knife's song titles and you get tunes like 'Fruits & Vegetables' &' I Like Chocolate Bars'.
I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS MOMENT
Vocaloids are sometimes holograms and sometimes just projected from a big screen. I think nowadays it's mainly just a screen, but it really does make it looks as if they were on stage performing, you should watch a more recent video to see the difference.
That event was from 9 years ago, so yeah these days Vocaloid performances look different.
I've been a fan for a long time, sicne i was like 10? and i'm now 21 and still i've never seen a live vocaloid event
I had tickets to a concert, and was so excited, but unfortunately, that concert was scheduled for March 2020. I don't think I need to say why that didn't happen, and I'm still soooo salty about it
@@Zerochroma15 rip man
What this guys said. Definitely check out some newer videos.
There is always a flat screen. Sometimes semitransparent screen with back projection - it can be seen on this video. Sometimes image projected on floor and reflected in semitransparent mirror (such principle called "pepper's ghost") - for example Tupac Shakur performances after his death.
True hologram technology still not able to provide big full-color images, especially movies.
@@jurayneskazu64 Yeah, our best true 3D lightfield displays, which would be ideal for these concerts, are not nearly big enough or cheap enough yet.
Since you're delving into the world of Vocaloid I have to suggest my favorite songs. Daughter of Evil sung by Rin Kagamine, Dancing Samurai sung by Gakupo Kamui, and then Echo sung by GUMI. There are so many voicebanks to choose from and so many songs created with each of them that you can spend years just listening to Vocaloid songs.
echo by gumi is great yes
Yes! Daughter of Evil! I always cry watching that animated video of it... 😭
Oooo if he watches Echo, we can probably get him to check out Haachama's cover too!
My personal favorite Magnet from both Hatsune Miku and Megurine Luka
@@jorgitosilva oooh. Magnet! Good choice! My favorite Miku/Luka song would have to be World's End Dancehall by Wowaka
HATSUNE MIKU IS A MIRACLE OF INTERNET, even after 15 years it doesn seem she gonna stop singing, and producers and fanst still creating tonts of content, she still being the most popular, loved,(lewded) anime character of all internet, and I hope live enouth to see her future.
In terms of Japanese and food, it's mostly because food is a HUGE part of Japanese culture. There's a very good reason why UNESCO added Japanese cuisine to it's list of "Intangible Cultural Heritage" in 2014. Even if that might have been done to shut the country up about wanting this and that to be added the list! ;) In terms of sweet food, it's because it's traditionally feminine to enjoy sweet things in Japan. Also, in terms of pronouncing her name, it's "HA-TSU-NE", Japanese doesn't have "magic E"! ;)
Yeah, in Japan the stomach is more the center of the body than the heart.
My favorite song from Hatsune Miku is Odds and Ends. It is an emotional song which shows the struggles of being a creator. I also love Bless Your Breath and Greenlight Serenade.
Odds and Ends is so good! I remember playing that in one of the Project Diva games (I want to say it was F?) but it was a hard one for me!
That is also my favorite song from Miku! I cried almost every time I listen to that song.
My favorite personally is Though My Song has No Form
I love how collectively in the vocaloid community, World is Mine is one of the first songs you will hear when learning about vocaloid and Miku herself. 🤣
Just found this vid of yours, and I absolutely love your enthusiasm form this song, the software, the character, the production of the concerts, everything about Hatsune Miku and just Vocaloid in general. I find the entire thing super interesting and it's something I could talk about for HOURS! You asked a lot of questions and I wish I could just jump into the video and answer them! Cause yes, it's motion capture, yes it's a projector, yes they still do tours (though they're on pause outside of Japan cause of covid safety still). The basic gist of how it works is, you have the audio of the vocals, and the band performs along with it live, and they sync a video of pre-rendered animation, projected onto a transparent mesh from behind. That's basically how it works.
As far as songs go, since Vocaloid is a software that just about anyone can pick up and make music with, there is A LOT of variety of songs. You've got pop and electronic, but also jazz, metal, rock, hip-hop, disco, rap, so many genres! Some recent songs featuring Miku that I would recommend are YY by 23.exe, such a banger, also Voice or Digital Girl by Kira (awesome artist using Miku's English software), and Ready Steady by Giga, who I think has some of the best vocal tuning of recent times. Also, any song by ryo, (who made World is MIne, also Melt and ODDS&ENDS), or by kz (songs like Satisfaction, Weekender Girl, or Catch the Wave), any of those are fantastic.
Ok, I could literally talk about this for hours, but I'll leave it there. I hope you have learned more and continue learning more about Miku and Vocaloid cause it allowed for such a unique community of artists that can stem from anyone.
I love vocaloid! My personal favourite is Gumi, her voice is definitely the most “real” sounding it baffles me sometimes. My favourite song is probably ‘Getcha’ with Miku and Gumi by Giga and Kira, definitely brought out the best of those two artists,
I love Vocaloid too. Actually I agree that Gumi has one of the best voice banks for realistic output, but I'd like to note that it's also very much up to the producers how the Vocaloids end up sounding like. For example Mitchie M has made all the Crypton Vocaloid sound pretty realistic in this song (and it's with the V2!!): ruclips.net/video/rmYU2ikxjpA/видео.html
I hope Luke will react to some Mitchie songs like Burenai ai de. :)
What happened to Gumi? I don't hear anything of her since V4. I miss her. My favorite Gumi song would probably be "yomosugara kimi omou" from TokoToko.
However, if we are talking about realism, the new CeVIO IA voicebanks for IA way surpassed Gumi.
Listen to her in japanese:
ruclips.net/video/PlpoB_BfFA4/видео.html

And english:
ruclips.net/video/ZMT23T7dXZg/видео.html
ruclips.net/video/u-MK6Fbtp3s/видео.html
Yes! I love Gumi!
Since others are pointing out realistic voices, I'd like to add my suggestion as well. Synth V recently added AI to their program, and all the voices using it sound amazing. I think Solaria is the best (Circus did a couple songs with her), but really all of them sound very realistic (especially if that's what the producer was going for)
@@lucidragon5260 oh, yes. SynthV sounds fantastic too. There is a cover of Spice Girls - Wannabe. Solaria as Mel B, it is just incredible.
Gumi Police PIccadily - Rumor nice song
She is a motion-capture hologram on stage, the voice track is being played through the stadium sound system with the live band providing the instrumentals.
My favorite Hatsune Miku songs are "Romeo and Cinderella" and "Hand in Hand". Megurine Luka is another vocaloid that I really like, with "Luka Luka Night Fever" being one of my favorites from her.
Thanks for doing this one. I finally clicked on it see what the hype was about and this song is a bop! Can't wait to join you on this new rabbit hole journey.
Coincidentally, VTubers also do live concerts similar to Hatsune Miku. Since you seem to enjoy Calli, maybe you could find some clips of her live concerts? They're honestly really hype!!
Hyper Reality Show was Live at 2020, and is by my favorite composer. Just so you know, since Miku isn't real, we usually separate the songs and fame by composers. Utsup do metal, Wowaka did amazing emotional pop, Nero do Rock, etc
Hahaha! You even got here! Love it. Love your reactions. Keep on down the rabbit hole. ;)
love to see new people join the miku community. i loved vocaloid for so many years. atleast 10 years so proud of their growth and what they have become today. i sure you will find something of miku that you love, so many producers and make so many genres of music. 💙
Ahhhh!! I’m so excited that you’re checking out Vocaloids!! Hatsune Miku is definitely the most popular, so you’ll find hundreds of amazing songs using her voice! Her most recent concert, “Magical Mirai 2022” was a month or two ago, and had her performing a song called “Blessing” with her friends live on stage!
Some other songs from her recent concert that I highly recommend are “My Love is Hellfire” feat. MEIKO by Slave. V-V-R, “Because You’re Here” feat. Hatsune Miku by Pinocchio P, and “FLASH” feat. KAITO by Kashii Moimi.
I went to one of her lives, only once, but man my mind was blown away, from the time of that live, to the latest there's been, the quality on her live performances improved tremendously. In all honesty, if ever any of your get a chance to have one her tours come near to where you live... go for it, it's seriously great
Miku is where songwriters use if they are not big enough to get someone to sing for them. Supercell wrote this one but the best one to describe his work with miku is "odds and end."
I was waiting for you to checkout more of Miku's songs! Hopefully you could listen to more of her songs in the future.
I just love how the crowd sings along with her sometimes. It’s so cool and I really wish I could go to one of those concerts at some point
You should definitely watch more live performances! Also there’s so many different vocaloids besides Miku that deserve just as much recognition.
There’s also English voice banks which I think would be worth reacting to!
You should check out more! If you like this and have time check out the full London Miku Expo 2020 It was alot of fun and the crowd was really into it! Also recommend the classic Rolling Girl, and Unknown mother goose from wowaka who was an incredible figure in the vocaloid music world. I also love Hyper Reality Show by Utsu-P, but being so biased there is hardly a song that I don't like!
YESSS LONDON EXPO WAS GREAT
Congrats on your 200k
These concerts are all NUTS, would love to see you react to more! Thank you for always going in with an open mind, people miss out on so much cool stuff :)
I think plenty have explained the projection and how she's able to appear before a crowd, so all I want to add about her movement is that it's most likely motion captured for the concerts, but there's also the free software (Or at least it used to be as far as I know) called 'MikuMikuDance', allowing movement motion of 3D models to be created, saved & shared with others along with models and everything. Many people use this to create Music Videos or other various things and the software comes with a 'default' model of Hatsune Miku and a sample dance motion.
Was really cool seeing you react to one of the live concerts though! Hope you get to see more of Vocaloids in the future!
I highly recommend checking out Miku Expo 2021 with the song “Highlight” featuring Hatsune Miku. It’s a much more recent concert and the song itself is in English!
Miku made VOCALOID popular by having character art attached to the voice, but the technology started with 3 English VOCALOIDs named Leon, Lola and Miriam… though, they have been discontinued so you can’t buy them anymore…
It’s been a while since I’ve heard Vocaloid and I’m glad I’m back. It’s insane and I love it. And yes, Hastune Miku is adorable.
And now I am just hit with quite the case of nostalgia. Singing along, of course. 😆
i’ve had the honor of seeing this twice in 2014 and 2016 in NYC! i’m impressed they bring this to the states tbh
I'm glad you are getting into VOCALOID the more you dig in the more you'll find out about all thus types of genres, characters and their unique personality traits 😌
Yo soy muy Fan de Vocaloid , los Artistas virtuales como Hatsune Miku , Kaito Gakupo ( Japoneses ) y asi tambien de Luo Tianyi , Yuezheng Longya ( Chinos ) ✨✨

Went to a MikuExpo concert in 2019, it was a really fun experience! The concert itself is great, and the vibe from the audience made it even better.
I went to Miku Expo 2018 in Austin and the hologram technology was amazing. I’m gonna be honest, I got a little teary eyed when I saw Miku on stage for the first time, but it looked like she was actually there. The videos do not do it justice. I had an incredible experience and I’m going again in a few weeks!
Oh boy my friend, I’m so glad to see another fan be born! Two suggestions, because this year is the 10th anniversary of the Magical Mirai concert series, there’s the 39’s giving (thanks giving) concert series, as well as the snow miku concert series’! But for individual songs, have you heard Amanaguchi - “Miku” ? Fantastic song, and was one of the first really good song released with the first edition of Miku’s English voicebank! Welcome my friend
OMG MY WIFE ! So cool you react to Hastune Miku ! :D
Can i just say that i love your positivity? I’m so used to people finding vocaloid weird and strange, and it gets to me more than it should because i care so much about it. Seeing your genuine joy and exitement made me very happy❤
Would be interested to see you react to more Vocaloid stuff, be it live performances or just songs.
Hi, Luke! Just wanted to say that I am in this fandom of vocaloids since 2016 and Im so excited to see your reaction
I went to a Miku Expo back in 2014? (i forgot) and man not only was the Vocaloid performances amazing but the musicians were also appreciated as well! even some of the crowd were cosplaying and man did they not hold back
One thing that's cool with vocaloids like Miku, is that with all the different artists in the scene, you'll get all kinds of music.
For example, for a completely different vibe, check out anything produced by Utsu-P.
His songs "Hyper Reality Show" and "Hello Builder" also made it to the live shows, but personally I'm more partial to songs like "Not Photogenic", "Death of the Law", "Imperfect Animals", or "MiKUSABBATH".
She does go on tours, I saw her live in Amsterdam in the beginning of 2020! It was such an amazing experience, so mmany people including me had the lightsticks as well and seeing everyone move them to the music was awesome!
I saw her in Dallas a few years back! It was awesome! I could recommend so many producers of vocaloid songs... Mitchie M. And Wowaka for great Japanese songs, Kira and VocaCircus for great English songs, etc. This is a whole rabbit hole you can follow, and I hope you do!
actually surprised you reacting into this
vocaloid songs has really unique tuning from their producer
To explain how Miku, as well as how the Vocaloid software works, basically it’s a synthesizer program that you install voicebanks into that simulate a singing voice. These voicebanks have a mascot to represent that such as Miku. She debuted for the Vocaloid 2 program and has risen to popularity and is promoted alongside other Crypton Future Media Vocaloids like Rin, Len, Luka and their Vocaloid 1 predecessors Kaito and Meiko. There are a *lot* more though contracted under different companies.
Hey G.O.T Games! Random Vocaloid fan here! This is the first video I watch of yours, and I'm very very happy to see you not only liked the song but you're also curious about Miku and Vocaloid as a whole!
Honestly, I think you can get a good picture of the scene already with all the info people have told you, both in this video and in the other one where you react to The Vampire by DECO*27, and while I personally think some comments add a bit too much info for a beginner I can see you've already started to get the general idea. Just keep in mind that the more you listen to and the more you read about it the more you discover, as Vocaloid has been around for YEARS now and the community has a lot to offer!
Anyways. I wanted to leave my grain of sand here and give you some recommendations for future reactions!
If you want to keep listening to Miku...
- Some classics to check out would be *Rolling Girl* by Wowaka (R.I.P.), *Melt* by Ryo and *Romeo and Cinderella* by Doriko.
- *Odds & Ends* by Ryo and *Tell Your World* by kz are also classics but a bit more emotional (to me at least).
- Pretty much anything from the Project Diva games (Which I'm 100% sure you are gonna see footage of eventually if you haven't already).
- And if you wanna check out more concert stuff *Cat Food* by Doriko has to be one of my favorite performances.
If you want to listen to Miku AND other Vocaloids (to start branching out)...
- *Magnet* by Ryusei-p has Miku singing with Megurine Luka and is also a classic. *Ai Dee* by Mitchie M has Miku and Luka as well.
- *Matryoshka* by Hachi has Miku and Gumi, one of the most iconic songs.
- *GimmexGimme* by Hachioji-p and Giga (collab) has Miku and Kagamine Rin, is a relatively recent song but slaps HARD.
And if you just wanna listen to more Vocaloid as a whole...
- *Bring it On* by Giga is a MUST.
- *Echo* by Crusher is legendary.
- and *Lagtrain* by inabakumori is a recent banger (...and sort of a meme, hard to explain though).
So...yeah, there's that. I'd wish to see what you have to say about every single song I listed...but with full honesty: With all of the different recommendations you've already gotten you'd have to become a Vocaloid reaction channel if you wanted to check out every single BANGER that Vocaloid has to offer, so this list is both for you and for anyone who's interested in the scene and wants to listen to more of it (although, if that's the case, play Project Diva Mega Mix, it's on Steam and Switch xD). Either way, hope you enjoy whatever songs you decide to check out next. Can't wait to see more reactions from ya'!
This song brings me sooo many memories from my teenage years, im really glad to see you react to it
Hatsune Miku and Ashnikko did a song together (which is wild) and it's an absolute bop. It's called Daisy 2.0 (feat. Hatsune Miku) and I absolutely recommend it! It showcases a little bit of her in english :)
(Edit: the song is explicit as well, but I still fully recommend it, expletives and all.)
Just announced a japan tour. The are currently on hold with world tour cuz of Japan's strict covid rules still. I saw her in Austin TX in 2018
this song is one of the most iconic vocaloid songs if not the most popular!
I would love to see you React to more of Miku live because for me personally the crowd singing along makes it soo much better I would like to see you react to Senbonzakura and Cat food
I'm sure a lot of this has been said already here in the comments, but to preface, Hatsune Miku is an original character created by Crypton Future Media. She is a Vocaloid, which is a voice-synthesizer music program the company created. Her voice is a combination of pre-recorded Japanese syllables (provided by voice actress Saki Fujita) and the manipulation of said syllables by the user. She and her fellow Vocaloids (yes, there are PLENTY more) do tour all over the world and perform through both officially- and unofficially-licensed concerts. On stage, she appears as a 3-D projection onto a plexiglass screen, and yes, she is very tall.
I'm always happy to see continuing interest in Hatsune Miku and Vocaloid! Your reactions really made me smile!
You should do a reaction to a recent miku live! It's improved so so much!!
Japan does have a sort of emphasis on a food culture, seasonal and regional ingredients and dishes including variations is rather important so when creating iconic items or mascot characters food the to be associated like for example all of the vocaloid has a sort of iconic held item associated with them, the actual item tends to differ depending on the western or eastern fanbase but for Japan all of them are foodstuff like a leek, banana, lemon etc
I had a play around with Miku's software like a decade ago so I don't know if it's the same now, but basically everything is pitch programmable. You have algorithms and the like for doing particular things like any other DAW but a lot of it is manually programmed, all in an effort to imitate authentic singing. It is made easier because Japanese is a very syllabic language and Miku is syllable based software but if you're really good you can make her sing in English or any other language as well it just takes a lot more work.
As for her movements it looks like a mixture of pre-recorded mocap assisted with animations. From what I understand Miku is on a screen that simulates depth to make it look like she's actually on the real stage, mirror tricks and optical illusions and all that. The live concerts Hololive puts on also uses similar tech although those are usually all mocap and usually mocap done live too.
You could look at “ten thousand stars” which is a song done in english by another band that miku did a performance on in the states
Hope you feel welcome in the Vocal Synthesizers world, because you got a lot to explore.
I am Currently a Synthesizer V fan but I still listening some Vocaloid songs and covers.
that was one of her first live appearances so recent ones look even better! I'd recommend taking a look at them
Maaaan I've been lucky enough to go to 2 Miku Expos and they were a blast!!
Venue was full and so much fun :D
can't wait to go to another one.
One of my favorite songs would be "Magnet" between Miku and Luka or "Odds and Ends"
it's a hologram. using a series of projectors on a screen they're able to render her in what appears to be 3D
If you're interested in these real life performances, I'd recommend checking out "Holofes 3rd", where the hololive company finally managed to get the same level of technology for a proper concert hall.
Another Vocaloïd song that I really like is "Bad End Night".
If you ever decide to react to it, you could also do "Crazy Night", "Twilight Night" and "Ever Lasting Night"
Welcome to the original rabbit hole. 😄 And if you're marveling at the technology, keep in mind this recording is from *2010.*
The early live shows, in particular, were special experiences--smaller venues, great songs, and hot crowds that knew every word and would sing along. "World Is Mine" was the traditional opener for those early shows; the next song for you to do should probably be "Melt," the traditional closer. (There's something about when the organ plays and the crowd starts singing along that makes you feel, just for a moment, that everything is right with the world.)
Glad your enjoying it! classic classic vocaloid song. So to answer a few questions that stuck out to me, though im sure plenty of others have too, for starters. going on tour, concerts! yeah, she has a ton, so do other vocaloids. My understanding is that usually rather popular songs from rather popular creators are played at them. But I'll be honest, im not super into the concert scene. What interests me more, is that *anyone* can buy hatsune miku, and make her sing *anything* they want. That means there is a massive indie community for vocaloid songs, in tons of different genera's, from jazz to metal. And of course, at every level of quality imaginable, from horrible to jaw droopingly good. A lot are entirely made by one person too, which is quite impressive.
Another thing, is the comparison to things like siri, and I think thats an interesting comparison to make. You mentioned how siri can't do tone or pitch, while Miku can. And I think the big reason for that, is miku uses a human touch. Let me explain what I mean.
I always liken vocaloids to a musical instrument. They have to be tuned. The producer has a lot of leeway to tweak the qualities of the voice that is being generated. They can change the tone for a note, or make it so that she tapers off on a held note, or add vibrato in any part of a note. Growls are doable, in newer versions whispers are pretty convincing too. You can even add in breaths.
Just like an instrument, the level of skill of the producer, with the software can really change the outcome of the voice that comes out. And you can really hear different producer's styles of tuning, as well as different skill levels. For instance, MitchieM is well known for having very realistic and human sounding tuning. Whereas a producer using miku for an EDM track might not worry too much about her sounding a bit stiff and robotic. PinochioP and Giga also have quite good and human sounding tuning, but all three of their mikus sound just a bit different, simply because of the way they choose to express her voice. It really is an art.
For some song suggestions, probably my favorite vocaloid song is Slowmotion, by pinocchioP. Which is a song that touched me deeply a long time ago, and I still listen to regularly. I love PinochioP's songs, I don't think there's a one that doesn't make you think.
If your more interested in hearing just how humanlike Miku can sound, then I would suggest something by MitchiM. Maybe Burenai Ai de, or Ai Dee.
If your interested in hearing some of the best tuned english on offer, I would check out Higher, from the Aria live, sung by IA. Not a huge fan of the song itself, but the tuning made my jaw drop. Though it uses a different software from miku, they're still the same concept.
A more famous english vocaloid song that I like better, with a more stylized but great tuning is Echo, by CrusherP (sung by Gumi)
Finally to throw out some misc. songs you may enjoy. Lagtrain by Inabakumori was a massive hit and for a good reason. It's a mesmerizing and melancholic song that glides you forward like a passenger train. The voicebank used is very unique too.
Hyper Reality Show by Utsu-P is an excellent example of how broad of styles can appear in vocaloid music. It's also a certified banger xD
Finally I'll throw in Hate it. Hate It. Jigahidai! by Kurage-P a stripped back rock song, featuring the lovely vocals of Otomachi Una.
and just so you know, there are so so so many more xD this isn't even mentioning GigaP or Gyari or Deco*27 or.. or.. or...
Holy cow, I just realized how much I wrote. sorry about that. Anyway, take it with a grain of salt. My taste in music is trash xD
A recent song Miku was in is "Why do I" by Set it Off
She also sang a song with Ashe Nikko in "Daisy 2.0"
Part of the reason these vocaloids sound so real is that they have what's referred to as a "voice provider." Basically a voice actor lol. They have come in, record different sounds, tones, etc and they use that to make the program for people to use. These voice providers sometimes even do events for fans! Kaito's (a male vocaloid made by the same company before miku) voice provider posts about the vocaloid almost daily and interacts with fans all the time, he even calls him his son, which is super wholesome XD Speaking of Kaito, he also has some phenomenal songs! Shanti and Doctor=Funk Beat are my personal favorites (the latter of which also having many live performances!)
Vocaloids songs by Kanzaki Kaori are incredible in their fine-tuning of Miku's voice, with incredible lyrics too. Personal favorite is Kimi No Kamisama ni Naritai, but Hated by Life Itself is possibly his most popular work for her.
It'll be fun to see u react to a guide for vocaloid
If you look close, there is a glass between towers. She is "projecte" over this glass. Tecnology from SEGA (Megadrive, Dreamcas, Sonic)
Recomendations: Alice&u by Ayunda Risu, God sees All (solo, live) by Enna Alouette
Hello! To answer some of your questions.
So the reason why she says she "wants to eat something sweet" is because the entire song is her being selfish, and now she's demanding something to eat since she (literally) thinks she is a princess in this song, and thinks she's better.
The dancing is done with motion capture! Meaning most songs with official dances are done by a real person.
AS FOR THE PROJECTIONS, at almost every Miku show, they use something called a "Pepper's Ghost." Here's an excerpt from the Wikipedia page for it: "Pepper's ghost is an illusion technique used in the theatre, cinema, amusement parks, museums, television, and concerts. The illusion is performed by reflecting an image of an object off-stage so that it appears to be in front of the audience."
Miku also isn't an AI voice, you buy the software to use her, and then you can "tune" her (it's manual; some people literally get hired to tune Vocaloids due to their highly desired and unique "tuning style") by moving blocks up and down a scale that make her sing those notes, and you can enter lyrics into those blocks to make her sing those syllables. Where the syllables come from is Hatsune Miku's Voice provider, Saki Fujita. (Every Vocaloid has a voice provider) Basically, they hire a singer or voice actor (or both in some cases) to say syllables into a microphone, that they use for the lyrics you can input into the software!!! (I would know since I have Vocaloid, and Hatsune Miku!)
Hope this helped :)
Funny thing is Hatsune Miku was feat with Lady Gaga concert and inspired by many artists in their music like Lady Gaga and Kanye west. The hologram tech came a long way from when they did 2Pac concert (I cant remember when) was projected on hologram as a concert farewell and became more advance for vocaloid, vtuber mascots, etc. But the music bands in vocaloid are the team producers or hired bands sometime, from big pro like kz-livetune, Neru, Hachi etc. You can make the vocaloid software realistic sound tune like MitchieM does sounding mostly human. The concerts of vocaloid are so cultured presentation like Hachi Close and Open Demons and The Dead (The dance with the fan), the dance can be motion made and programmed as some chorography was hand made/program but some motion cap program with MAYA program (which is what made the VF5 models especially in game).
I got to see Miku live in the US back in 2015 or so. She's projected onto a flat pane of something (perhaps plastic or plexiglass) on the stage. These recordings only show her from the front, but she is in fact flat. Other vocaloids such as Luka, Rin, Len, and Kaito were also present at the show
I got to see her and many other Vocaloids in concert back in 2018. It was pretty awesome!
Fun fact about the Vocaloids: You can actually purchase the Vocaloids programs and feature them in your music. Each Vocaloid is based on a different vocal range recording bank. Different Vocaloids specialize in different musical genres. Hatsune Miku is a generation 3 voice, and is by far the most popular.
This video brings me good old memories, please check "Love Is War" is one of My favorites
Amazing artist.
I feel like one of the most iconic songs from Hatsune Miku's concert is Spica's 2010 performance. Everytime I watch that song I get chills!! I hope you can watch it
Well, welcome the Vocaloid rabbit hole, I have been a Vocaloid fan for more than 10 years so I can tell you're going to enjoy it.
Can't believe it took us this long to get you to listen to Miku. Also check out Rolling Girl it's an amazing heart breaker.
This is nostalgic, my eyes started to tear up watching this. I think it's been 10 years since the last time I listened to Vocaloid religiously. Btw my fav is Gumi
She even does world tours. She did an arena concert in Amsterdam a few years ago.
Most of the dances for vocaloid are done in a 3d model program called miku miku dance or MMD for short. People can use that to mocap dances for the vocaloids or custom 3d models. Hatsune miku is a Yamaha product that takes real voice samples and enables anyone who buys it to make songs using the various vocaloids. A lot of anime uses hatsune miku for the openings.
Hatsune Miku is an infinite rabbit hole, for sure.
there's good reason that this song is considered so iconic, it's so damn good. ive listened to it many times and i just can't get tired of it. it's the gateway into vocaloid for a lot of people
The way the "hologram" works is there's a clear screen that is set up at an angle and a projector, usually on the ground or behind the screen, that projects the image on to the screen. So since the screen is almost invisible except for the image projected on it so it looks like the 3D character is actually there on stage.
all hatsune miku that takes me back, ive always loved listening to miku, tho u shouold check out the pentakill live convert for league of legends
I reacted with you bc this is my first time hearing a Hatsune Miku song
"Hatsuun" haha.
It's a projection on to a clear screen.
I saw her live in Japan. A dream come true.
You Have no idea how Surreal it is to experience this kind of show live.
I've been to the show TWICE in London.
Its Amazing. Its Bizarre & I LOVE the atmosphere we get.
Miku is a Hologram projected on a Glass Screen on the stage with briliant live band placed around the screen.
From what I know Miku is just animated on screen. Not like a vtuber with person using motion caption following their move
EVERYONE goes along with the idea of Miku actually being a person on stage which makes the experience just MAGICAL
Hatsune Miku Created in 2006/7ish and introduced as the Mascot of Yamaha brand new music tuning application/series named Vocaloid which later became more and more famous throughout 2010's! It opens the curtain to many people that want to compose their own music and help them create something unique to these each "Voice-Banks". now, the Voice-Banks are essentially a pack of sound sample that the character has and it works by tuning it into the each respectable Supported Vocaloid Application from its tone, pitch, and etc.
Deco*27 who has worked with ADO were also became famous throughout his years as becoming a Vocaloid Artist!
