I like the "It's just paper/cardboard!" complaint. Paintings are just pigments, statues are just rocks, your favorite sport is just people running around with a ball, music is just sound waves.... It's easy to over simplify anything you want and pretend there's nothing more to it.
Painting and statues take skill to create and hold historic value (most, not all) sports take skill and endurance, music take talent and years of hard work to create (once again for the most part). Playing cards are a created and controlled market. Either 1 or 1,000,000 of each card and be printed. The value is only worth what you will pay. Nothing more. So yes it is just paper, you just say its worth money.

14:37 since path to exile removes tetrivus from the game tetrivus doesn't go to the graveyard. That means you can't bring it back with the archeologist. There was actually a control deck that removed creatures with swords and then timetwistered to remove all the creatures from the opponent's deck and play indefinitely.
Magic is for anyone that loves Magic. No matter your opinion on him, at least concede that. It's damn clear how much he loves Magic, its history and the cardboard. Such perfectly preserved cards from 20-ish years ago.
I was actually constructing a deck very similar to this (back in 2000), an was just about to ask about Winter Orbs…. until you showed the side board. I love classic magic. So much freedom and creativity. Love the deck.
I started playing between Antiquities and Legends. I wanted to build an artifact deck so badly, but as a jobless 13-year-old who missed out on Arabian Knights and Alpha through Unlimited, making a good one was impossible. Thank you for this video!
100k? Are you nuts? He had 2 lotus's and what 6 or so moxes? You do realize those were only unlimited lotus's correct? And that they only run about 4k give or take. So you have those at well just say 5k for good measure plus the moxes that's pushing 20k maybe a little more plus the workshops at 1k a piece so you would b at around 24-25k with those and you have a candelabra thats about 600 or so. So yeah his 30k estimate for that deck is a pretty close estimate. Idk where you are pulling this 100k shit from its definitely no where near that
Basically all that power was from unlimited so it's not nearly as valuable as the alpha beta shit. 2 lotus's is 10k plus the 6 or so moxes is another 9 or 10k on top of that plus the workshops at 1k a piece (so another 4k) and a candelabra (600) plus some other shit that Def has value. 30k is definitely a good estimate by rudy for sure. You guys do realize rudy is in mtg fiance and that he does know the value of his cards
Alpha Investments, I know you're a money guy so you may not need to hear this, but because I've had a personal experience with this, please listen. Awhile back, a boardgamer had died. Some other family drama stuff happened, and so his entire collection of boardgames, which go for something like $60 each on retail, was put in an outdoor shed and crushed under the weight of the other boardgames. One day, the wife of this boardgamer died, and so distant family of the deceased living in another state inherited the house and its contents. The problem is, they wanted all of this stuff gone ASAP, and so they were about ready to throw all of this stuff in the dump. My dad managed to go in and try to buy a lot of the stuff, thus preventing it all from going to the dump. Sure enough, between the board games and old RPG books (which we had thought were worthless), we made several thousand dollars off of buying the lot. However, your stuff is clearly more valuable than several thousand dollars, since you've got 30k right there. So, my advice is you make sure your family understands the value of your collection, and also that your family knows the best way to sell the stuff so, even if they have to sell it under value to get rid of it quickly, they still get a fair amount of the value back.
Noah Engelmann excellent point here...let your loved ones know what the value of your collectables are people...what this guy saids here i see often at estate sales(family selling dead spouse/family members stuff to sell the house empty)...
Now those are the cards I remember. I loved those times and remember opening those kind of pacts. Like I have said before I don't play anymore I just watch for the old memories and see the new art. Thanks for showing off this deck. I would love to see more like this.
doesn't that life swap artifact say you can only do it on your upkeep? also, swords puts the card in exile, unable for you to reset the artifact flyer.
Nice deck! Love the originality! I had a Type 1 deck that used mox jet, ruby, and emerald and Lotus. Used Nether Void to lock out opponents and Mishra's Factories to beat down with. Was right after Invasion came out and I ran Blurred Mongoose and Urza's Rage cause they got around the Nether Void's extra costs. It was a lot of fun to play.
Bet desolator magic is gonna report you to wizards for showing that deck to us.

That Tolarian Community College reference was so good.
Rudy, let's see those modern decks from 09! Would be a good look back in the format 10 years
I started playing between Antiquities and Legends. I wanted to build an artifact deck so badly, but as a jobless 13-year-old who missed out on Arabian Knights and Alpha through Unlimited, making a good one was impossible. Thank you for this video!
It's hilarious to see how jealousy makes people react to one guy's passion for an awesome game. Great video!
+1
Dale Cooper +1/+1
Watched most of you're videos. Keep it up man.
Psh, only $30k?
I know right? Rudy, get back to us when you join the 250k club. ;)
or for the cost of Ford Focus you could play budget vintage for only 14k.
TheSushiandme Oh yeah show us your deck that's worth 30 thousand dollars or more if you can that is or if you can't then shut it.
This video has been in my recommendations for the past six months. I’m finally ready.
Noah Engelmann excellent point here...let your loved ones know what the value of your collectables are people...what this guy saids here i see often at estate sales(family selling dead spouse/family members stuff to sell the house empty)...
why the fuck would i tell my family how much my cards are worth???? F U C K. T H A T
TL:DR get a proper Will made up.
Now those are the cards I remember. I loved those times and remember opening those kind of pacts. Like I have said before I don't play anymore I just watch for the old memories and see the new art. Thanks for showing off this deck. I would love to see more like this.
This is literally my deck from the good ol' shandalar days...
Nice
This card collection is more expensive than my entire existence up to this current point in time... I'm beyond jelly, I've gone straight to jam.
Rudy's Eternal Flex
Using Swords on the Tentravus would not allow you to reccur it with the Archaeologist because it exiles.
Dear Rudy,
Adopt me,
and be my daddy...
Wow! What an interesting deck! I would have never thought to build a deck like that when I was playing when I was a kid. Thanks for sharing!
doesn't that life swap artifact say you can only do it on your upkeep?
also, swords puts the card in exile, unable for you to reset the artifact flyer.
Miss playing local vintage tourneys 15 years ago!
swords doesn't work that way
you are correct, i realized i said that after i filmed...o well :-(
It's Alpha Investments, he do what he want!
Love the style of video Rudy! It's cool to see how the game was played when it started. Keep up the good work!
This is literally the epitome of economics at its' finest.
That’s the same 3rd edition black lotus and moxes I have. But I didn’t discover sleeves until a few years ago
Rudy , put up some god damn pants!!
He doesn't OWN any pants!
FUCK PANTS
Your mind is always so far ahead in time…. it truly is amazing. Everything you have done and created is mind blowing to look back on. Amazing things are in store for you, do something that would earn you the Noble Piece Prize in the Magic community ☮️
This intro made me laugh so hard!
Never played or owned a magic card in my life, but your videos make me wish I did.
Mike McCarthy Get into some commander! It’s a fun casual multiplayer format and there are a couple RUclips channels that show you how to build competitive decks for under $50. Cheap decks are more fun anyway
This video grinds my gears...
Zeetro Why?
This video is just pure ego stroking.
Zeetro true
Zeetro and? many people wanted to see his decks. here they go. and everyone knows ruby loves himself a bit to much. thats fine i guess.
Shadzz I hate egomaniacs.
This was child Rudy's pet deck. I remember my pet deck back when I was younger. Thx for the memories Rudy.
My college tuition is literally laying on the table
Zoomsoldier5 just the first 2 or 3 cards is enough lol
Okay, I was just getting ready to say "You can't have more than one Lotus blah blah blah" when you addressed that. Funny stuff though. Always love seeing the cards from the golden age.
winter orb, trisKILLon yeah thats some old school deck tek.
loved seeing the old decks hope you keep it up would love to see your other decks
Thanks for sharing your personal collection with us. I know personal this stuff can be.
Deck looks great! But I found it very funny when Rudy explained game mechanics that don't actually work, when the main subject of the video was supposed to be that he did play Magic.
When I'm in a really big battle, I supplement my $5 and succumb to KFC for their $5 Fill up. I take poison damage, but not a lot of players know that if you take a dump mid-meal, you can save yourself the struggle later and eliminate those counters. Afterwards, you an deal X direct red/green damage to any target. Enjoy the bisquits afterwards and you are now a legendary hero.
ahahahaha
It’s been a while since this video, could you show another of your other decks ?
Rudy I know you want this for life.
Taking pictures with all my ice.
But I can't have no wife.
I just want you for the night.
Rudy: *plays ridiculously expensive deck with only original dual lands and power nine, gets wrecked by a single blood moon*
>65 cards deck
LITERALLY UNPLAYABLE
yeah what is this, a battle of wits deck?!
Subscribing because unsleeved media said you were a stand-up dude
Cast the Mirror Universe and crack it in the SAME turn ? I don't think so...
Use Sword to Plowshares on your creature and bring it back from the GRAVEYARD ? I don't think so either...
Dude's talking about a deck he played over 20 years ago, I'm sure he's forgotten some shit about it in the meantime.
Oh boo fucking hoo. Cry that you're a broke ass bitch and he ain't 😎
