this video helped me do exactly what I needed to!. My son decided to dip my controller in syrup and so my action buttons were very sticky. I took off that membrane and cleaned all the syrup out perfectly and now its back to almost when I first got it. Now that I have the confidence to take it apart and put it back again, I can go through and be even more thorough, as I missed a few places. I may even paint it a pretty awesome color. But again thank you so much!!!!

My problem is with the left analog stick, I managed to fix it. Though when I put it back again, it doesn't work anymore. EDIT: I took it apart again, tried to re-check some of the loose parts and it finally worked. I already knew the part where you have remove the back part since I fixed my L2 and R2 buttons that way. The part where you removed the mobo-like of the controller is the new thing, so this video really helped me a lot. I panicked and good thing I found this video, really helpful.
My biggest grip with the PS4 controller is the Analog Sticks themselves where the springs under the sticks excessively break down. I've replayed well over half a dozen controllers under warranty. The Xbox controller supercedes the PS4 controller in functional wearability. And of course the Xbox Elite controller is just so sweet.
Once I put the controller back together it doesn't seem to work at all. The group of chips to the left of the battery get really hot, but the LED won't turn on or anything. Do you know of any way to fix this?
nice work man XD putting the lad light pad backwards but saved that in time wonder how all of the other skinned paint designs for PS4 are gonna look like since we had that a lot in the past with special franchise games back in the PS1,2and 3 days lol peace man and good demonstration
JenkPack Shakur completely agree mate, Have a ps3 a 360 and a ps4 and from my experiences mictosoft did it right with rechargeable batteries that way i never need to connect my pad to the console with a cable if i have two packs
The constant slipping of the left thumb literally drove me to do this and, well.. this may be taboo for the diehard ps4 fanboys and girls, but i made mine a hell of a lot better with x360 thumbsticks.. ***MY RUclips CHANNEL BANNER IS A SNAPSHOT OF MY WORK*** I opted not to open my DS4 and attempt to retrofit larger thumbsticks inside the ds4 shell - AND I'M HAPPY THAT I WENT THAT ROUTE. The whole process takes about 15 minutes. Materials needed: -Spare thumbsticks (I prefer x360 but go ahead amd use your preferred flavor, if desired) -Crazy glue -Sandpaper -Saw 1. Strip the rubber from the DS4 thumbgrips down to the plastic cores. 2. Used a hand saw to separate the tops of the replacement thumbsticks from their trunks. 3. Sand the undersides a bit to create a smooth and even surface. (honestly, barely any sanding is required at all. If you don't want your sticks to be raised very much then sand a bit more.) 4. Fill the depressed area on top of the plastic ds4 thumbstick cores about 80% so that you do not risk any glue spilling over. 5. ## Point of View for description would be as if you placed the controller on a table and were staring over it ## ---- Gently place (DO NOT PRESS YET!!) the replacement tops onto the wet glue. Center it on the 'X' axis (from left to right) BUT!!!!! ***set the tops a few millimeters off-center on its 'Y' axis (top to bottom) favoring the top (so there should be just a tad more overhang on the top end (For superior ergonomic comfort: Due to the slightly larger circumference of the x360 tops coupled with the design of the DS4 controller shell. This will prevent the lower portion of the thumbstick ring from digging in underneath your thumbs.) 6. Once you get the tops set press FIRMLY but CAREFULLY for 15-20 seconds. Wait about 15 minutes just to be sure that the glue dried and sealed properly. 7. Have fun with your improved ds4 analog sticks. I promise you this is better than any grips or covers. Not only will your thumbs no longer slip off while playing your favorite First Person Shooter but... @@@The(slightly) taller thumbstick placement will give you a greater range of motion -which, as a result, enhances your precision with every angle in between maximum angle. (similar to KontrolFreeks - but so much better). For this reason I was able to bump up my aim sensitivity 2 notches to replicate the responsiveness that I felt when the sticks were a tad bit shorter. # The sticks will not feel too tall either because the stock DS4 sticks are set loswer than x360 / DS3 thumbsticks. (If you choose to just glue over the originals without stripping the rubber off down to the plastic, however, they will indeed feel too tall! So, don't shortcut because it isn't worth it) @@@Additionally,the larger concave tops also add stability that I found just wasn't there before the modification. I felt very comfortable with my aim on the right stick before the mod but I was delighted with the end result after playing a few matches with the new tops. ^^^^Before: Successful Drop-Shot Triple-Kill attemps were maybe 1 in 5 (roughly 4 in 5 i would get 2 - 1 - or none. *****After:::: Successful drop-shot Trips is more like 4 out of 5 (not a bad swing) Longshots are better anything that involves quick precise snap reflex type aim on the fly - etc... is just plane better. Now if you do prefer the x360 sticks i can assure you that I forget that I'm using a DS4 because the sticks feel so natural.. also, my thumbs no longer become sore over moderately long gaming sessions (and that soreness would carry over into the next and get worse- happens for me may not have for you. You have greater stability because of: 1. Increased Range of Motion 2. Lager Thumbstick tops 3. True Concave cradles your thumb allowing you to rest gently over the tops rather than being forced to always maintain control with greater force. when you turn/slide whatever? your thumb in any direction the raised edges will grab and move with your thumb. It just feels better.. I prefer the neutral left thumb position up high but i don't mind the thumbstick being low rather than high , as long as i don't have to fight just to hang on to the thing. it's distracting & inefficient. +++ You and whoever else is reading this may react to this however you please. I'm just trying to offer an inexpensive solution that worked for me- A solution, that I will continue to live on through each and every DS4 controller that I acquire, because, It's THAT DAMN GOOD! looks much better inside than XB1 controller, I think I'll buy one for PC. I tried the logitech f710 and it sucks because the battery springs can start vibrating if I shake the controller too much, Steelseries Stratus XL sucks because it has broken triggers and problems with connection. to think that a gamepad not meant to use with PC is probably actually the best gamepad for PC. Even Steam has a support for DS4, lol.

Does the d-pad have a hole in the center of the top and/or bottom? not sure if I saw right if it was a small circular bump on the top, or that for some reason it's a hollow hole from the top's center and through the thing you pull it out with in the back, or maybe there's a hole only in the top center and not in the bottom of the thing in the back you pull it out with. A 60 follar controller big deal? yeah maybe for you and a couple others around those parts,but not for everybody my friend.I can forgive the fact that they have their newest controllers 60 dollars,but in my region they still have dual shock 3 about the same price and they sould reduce the prices in the older ones a litle.Other than that i really enjoyed your video about this,its pretty intresting to see what this includes inside.Much easier to open it and clean it up.
The layout of mine is slightly different and the main flex cable of all buttons is connected on the side of the controller and not on middle like that one.

my Dualshok became special! It just doent use the light bar at all and the battery takes easily for a 1/3 longer. It happened just randomly! I#ve hitted once my dualshok against the floor because of a rage in a pvp match of For Honor. Afterwards i decood to open it, and to fill the L1 and R1, which falled of, back in to it. Well while i've been sticking it all together, i accidentally hitted a small square on the motherboard, so that it falled completely off. It had a mark on it like an "i". For first i tough I fucked it up, but afterwards, it was a big surpirse to see this buddy working, without the "lanterns light". rofl
***** beacause the LEDs have no use in the controller, except if ure using the Playstation camera eye, they just drain the battery, and limit its use to 5-6 hours after a full charge... so if sony could patch it somehow, give us an option to turn on/off the leds, that be great....

Hello there jakthebomb, So very recently I have started having issues with my DualShock 4's left analog stick. Whenever I hold the stick forward (north if the stick were on a compus), the controller does not respond. My character does not move forward. This happens about 85% of the time now. Do you think that there is anything that could be done with the sticks if I took it apart and looked it. Possibly a loose connection. You seem to have a good knowledge base of fixing controllers. Any thoughts?
Maybe you could help me out alittle bit. I bought a Dual Shock 4 before the PS4 launched. Now when I use it, the light bar doesn't light up? Everything functions, it charges fine, everything works, except the light bar. It used to light up. When I first got it, i hooked it up to my PS3 and it lit up orange. Any possible ideas? I did drop the controller once, and no where hard enough to break anything.
It is not easier to open than the dual shock 3, a little harder, not by much, but it is. I've opened up soon many dual shocks and six axis and none were as tedious as the clips in the dual shock 4

Hi. Afret apart my ds4 controller has less tension on the triggers (it feels a little smooshy) and now the triggers are super sensitive and the slightest pressure will count as a press. My fingers are not nice)) Spring replacement or not? I checked, everything is good. Help me, please.
Bluetooth issue! My controller seems to start developing lag when I get further away from the console (about 2.5 to 3 metres) and will actually disconnect when I'm a little further. It may even also completely ignore a command, however if I plug the controller in, there is no issue at all. I'd rather a fix and not just have to sit up close to my television. Any ideas guys?
Thank you very much for uploading this video! I referenced it in order to swap out the stock Analog Sticks from my DualShock 4 controller for a pair of Gold Aluminum Alloy ones. This will help to ensure that I don't run into the very common issue of the rubbed padding being torn after extended use on the stock Analog Sticks. In any case, I must say that it wasn't easy to do. Even with the essential help of your excellent video, I came close at one point to breaking the L2 trigger. In the end however, thanks in large part to you, I was successful in replacing the sticks, and the new metallic ones are phenomenal. Without your help, I would have surely destroyed my controller, so again, thank you so much. I took a picture afterwards of my DualShock 4 with the new Gold Analog Sticks, and uploaded it to my Photobucket account. My up button wasn't working so I took controller apart to fix it. One of the little buttons on the membrane pad won't pop back up because it ripped off. Is there a way to fix or replace it?
I just spent 4 hours repairing my dad membrane lol I put the membrane upside down flat on my table, gently placed the torn buttons back inline, took some krazy glue gel and slowly (with a sewing needle) worked small amounts of gel around where the tear line was. though when reassembling my controller would not function if I plugged the touchpad back in so I said "eh, good enough" lol

I had an issue with the right thumb stick so I dug in and saw that it wasn't on the stick thanks.

For some reasons my controller had both L2 and R2 stuck in the back shell piece, impossible to remove them without breaking the buttons.
btw its weard how the one vibrator is small and the other bigg funny bc the controllers that came with the first ps3 was both bigg compared to ones the have in the store.

So very recently I have started having issues with my DualShock 4's left analog stick. Whenever I hold the stick forward (north if the stick were on a compus), the controller does not respond. My character does not move forward. This happens about 85% of the time now. Do you think that there is anything that could be done with the sticks if I took it apart and looked it. Possibly a loose connection. You seem to have a good knowledge base of fixing controllers. Any thoughts?

Maybe you could help me out alittle bit. I bought a Dual Shock 4 before the PS4 launched. Now when I use it, the light bar doesn't light up? Everything functions, it charges fine, everything works, except the light bar. It used to light up. When I first got it, i hooked it up to my PS3 and it lit up orange. Any possible ideas? I did drop the controller once, and no where hard enough to break anything.

It is not easier to open than the dual shock 3, a little harder, not by much, but it is. I've opened up soon many dual shocks and six axis and none were as tedious as the clips in the dual shock 4

I think Sony isn't preventing anyone from opening up their controllers... I mean it is on the instruction manual, "How to change the battery pack on your DS4" or something like that. It is more likely that they want you to open it, so if you screw up... BAM! give sony your money haha....

Damn L2 button refuses to spring back after only 2 months. I really do not want to open this thing, looks a lot harder than a daulshock 3 to get closed (properly).
It closes a lot easier than you think. If you just place the top on top of the bottom and push it'll snap back together

Hi. Afret apart my ds4 controller has less tension on the triggers (it feels a little smooshy) and now the triggers are super sensitive and the slightest pressure will count as a press. My fingers are not nice)) Spring replacement or not? I checked, everything is good. Help me, please.

My controller seems to start developing lag when I get further away from the console (about 2.5 to 3 metres) and will actually disconnect when I'm a little further. It may even also completely ignore a command, however if I plug the controller in, there is no issue at all. I'd rather a fix and not just have to sit up close to my television. Any ideas guys?

I referenced it in order to swap out the stock Analog Sticks from my DualShock 4 controller for a pair of Gold Aluminum Alloy ones.
This will help to ensure that I don't run into the very common issue of the rubbed padding being torn after extended use on the stock Analog Sticks.
In any case, I must say that it wasn't easy to do. Even with the essential help of your excellent video, I came close at one point to breaking the L2 trigger.
In the end however, thanks in large part to you, I was successful in replacing the sticks, and the new metallic ones are phenomenal. Without your help, I would have surely destroyed my controller, so again, thank you so much.

P.S. - I'm thinking for my 2nd DualShock 4 controller to replace the stock Analog Sticks with Blue Aluminum Alloy replacement sticks. It should look really sleek.
My up button wasn't working so I took controller apart to fix it. One of the little buttons on the membrane pad won't pop back up because it ripped off. Is there a way to fix or replace it?
I just spent 4 hours repairing my dad membrane lol I put the membrane upside down flat on my table, gently placed the torn buttons back inline, took some krazy glue gel and slowly (with a sewing needle) worked small amounts of gel around where the tear line was. though when reassembling my controller would not function if I plugged the touchpad back in so I said "eh, good enough" lol
