    Nice video!!
    Been scouring RUclips for tips and tricks. I currently have 400 speed film loaded in my Canon AE-1.
    Would you recommend any "universal" settings for street/daytime photography (E.g., f/5.6, 1/500, ISO 200).
    Thanks a bunch!

      Hi there! Thanks for reaching out! When shooting street and landscapes, I would recommend shooting a higher aperture value. This will give you a deeper depth of field and will help you nail focus. Other than that, when shooting ourdoors a lower film speed and quicker shutter will get you to where you want to be! cheers

    What would you say is an overall good setup for shooting Gold 200 and portra 400?

    I recently serviced two AE-1 cameras for a friend - squeaking mirror problems. My first time using an A-series Canon SLR. I found the AE-1 controls not ergonomic, particularly the hooded shutter speed selector dial. The shutter preferred exposure automation is contra most such aperture preferred systems and not as useful. The bayonet lens mount is a genuine pain in the ass, although abandoned by Canon on later models. They seem to have an above average number is little issues compared to other makers' models, thus more maintenance.The only virtues seem to be that (1) huge number of these were made, so they are inexpensive, and (2) Canon's company practice of orphaning its lens mounts periodically results in large numbers of good FD lenses sitting in shops and ebay, cheaply available with no where else to go.

    I have a question - so we can actually turn have “manual mode” on ae-1?

    • @nickdambrosia2304
      @nickdambrosia2304  3 года назад

      Manual mode is really just selecting your own aperture and shutter speed as opposed to just throwing the aperture into the "a" setting. Hope this helps! Just posted a new vid btw. Would appreciate if you checked it out!

    Shooting in manual mode (aperture priority) let's just say I want to shoot f8 but the meter needle is pointing to f4. When I change the aperture to f4 the needle stays pointing at f4. Will this give me an underexposed photo as the aim is to have the needle in the centre (f5.6)? Or am I meant to be changing the shutter speed so that the needle is in the centre?
    AKA, should the needle always be in the centre to have a correctly exposed photo or should the needle match the aperture on the lens?

      Great question. I will try to explain this as clearly as possible. Lets say you set your shutter to 1/500 and take a reading with the light meter that comes back at f/4. In this case you would set your aperture to f/4 to properly expose your image. The meter simply tells you what shutter speed you should be using at a given shutter speed. If you match the aperture with what the needle says your image will come back exposed to what the light meter thinks is a proper exposure.
      For example, if your shutter is at 1/60 and the needle is all the way at the top, above f/22, you wouldn't be able to pick an f value to expose the image properly in most cases as most lenses top put at f/16. In this case, if you were to move the shutter speed to a faster shutter speed 1/250 or 1/500, you would notice the needle show a lower f value. This would allow you to take a shot that is properly exposed.
      I know the second part isn't exactly what you were asking, but I hope this helps you get a better idea of the exposure triangle! Thanks

      Not built in, no. It does have a hot shoe mount though so you could put a flash on it
