- Fallout 76 - The Gauss Rifle Got Even Better
With science perks now giving a damage bonus to energy rifles and pistols, the gauss rifle is even better. If you are using Demoliton Expert and have no addition perk points to spare, you can still get better damage.

Fun fact: the legacy explosive prefix on gauss rifles did less damage than the normal gauss rifle explosion. So when the removed explosive legacies, any explosive gauss got buffed. And with this, legacy explosive gauss rifles have gotten buffed twice.
What
@@logancollins3223 gauss rifles have really strong explosive rounds that do a lot of damage. The legendary effect would over write it's normal explosion which made the gauss shots explosive. In short:
Gauss rifles with the explosive legendary effect made the gauss rifle do less total damage because of how explosive effects worked.
I laughed at “now the science perks give a damn about the gauss rifle
Very nice, thanks! Playing with a mid-health stealth character the Gauss rifle now pairs nicely with a plasma flamer. Mine is bloodied ffr and It one-shot kills L100 super mutants when charged, just shy when not charged.
Something worth looking into: When I use VATS and aim for limbs I almost always get a hit and it only does a tiny bit less damage than a head shot. I think the percentage of hit chance is bugged on head shots.
The better mod for anti-armor is prime capacitors
The rest including quad, bloodied, aristocrat, junkie, etc. is perforating capacitors.
The (new) anti-armor truly shreds after the update.
Nice catch, I wouldn’t have thought that the science perks would be better than maxxed demo expert. Gonna have to pull Gauss rifles off of the mule tonight.
I personally like instigating for bolt-action or semi-automatic rifles. Combine that with these perks and you regularly score 1700+. Combined with a critical it is a guaranteed kill on anything short of event primaries.
I just wish our sneaky, scout-sniper Gauss rifle had a skin that was sneaky and stealthy and not bright orange!!!
Yea but instigating is not to good for stronger enemies. Especially if its a public event. Once the main enemies take damage instigating is useless even if you run solo
If you're struggling with VATS accuracy, I'd recommend a Long scope for a significant boost that can help you with that.
If you're struggling with the game aiming for you then I think people should not play a shooter game at all at that point lol
@Ccubed92 Its not always about a lack of skill. Don't get me wrong, I'd so much rather ADS than use VATS, but there are so many perks that make it powerful in comparison to using only ADS.
@@Ccubed92when crits negate bosses’ damage reduction, you can talk all the smack you want about people using VATS but they’re going to take down a boss long before you will with your superior ADS skills lol
@@Ccubed92if you think your aim skill matters in a PvE RPG, you should go back to COD you damn tool
@@COLDFIRE_0284 truth i use it in specific scenarios to help
Just be careful not to Crit Shot in your own face with Grenadier now!
Fireproof helps not blow yourself up lol
Why is this the first result when I typed in Gauss Rifle Mods? The video doesn't show what are the best modifications for the weapon...
Prime is what I use and I get 670 damage base not quite there yet it's a insta-kill on most. I do have a few videos on it
I’ve been trying to see if I can sneak one shot level 100 supermutants with a very similar gauss build w/o charging. No real reason why except something different than the fixer. I love the new changes and the gauss is awesome with quad.
Hmm...
I've been meaning to fully switch over to energy rifles for my commando character, but have resisted doing so completely due to having a couple of good Fixers...
Might need to have a little experiment with the neglected science perks, now. My tesla is already a bit of a beast, but it doesn't have quad on it, so anything that reduces my need for constant time-consuming reloads would be good.
Just maxed out the science perks and essentially doubled the damage on my AA tesla.
Happy days 😊
Time to dust off the Gauss.
I'll stick to using my gauss vampire minigun. Don't have to worry about missing shots with that.
that many perk points isn't even available in the planner tho?
I'm using legendary perks to get more special points.
hey havent played 76 in a bit and the gauss rifle is my favorite weapon but it looks like they nerfed it heavily anyone aware of the changes they made?
I miss those Halloween skins 🎃
Anyone know why I can only hit 322 damage with the Gauss rifle? It shows 356 for Wiggles? I have 3 max Rifleman perks, maxed out Science perks, and max out Demo expert.
Edit: nevermind, he had Bloody Mess on.
Damage can vary based on lots of factors. Enemy level makes a difference. Follow Through and adrenaline can make a huge difference as well. Different legendary effects. It's also possible that things in game are different since I recorded this video.
Nice I have an AA/ADS 25/durable prime gauss rifle
My gauss rifle is 2 shot, crippling, and swift, is that good?
It'll get the job done.
how do you hit so much? ı cant hit that much without charge it first.
Do you have this exact rifle for sale by chance?
I’m sorry, 9772 damage to the century bot? How?
Sentry bot fusion cores are the weak spot. Hit them in VATS and you'll always do big damage.
what is your complete build ? I would like to check it out and see if it feels right for me
Thank you for the video, much apprechaited! One question: where do I get (such) a nice painting for the gauss weapon? Does anyone know?
I don't remember. My guess would be from Nuclear Winter.
@@wiggle_playsmy aa hitmans durable prime gauss rifle does 380 damage any thoughts?
It's the night terror halloween skin
So I dont have the exact Gauss Rifle build like yours, I don't even have any mods for it actually.
My current setup, 's damage is at 281. I only have Rifleman maxed out, that's it. I am still working on Demo Ex and the science perks as well.
With all that said, I am still not doing nowhere near the damage you are.
What am I missing from the build besides what I have already mentioned?
I have the legendary perk "Fallow Through" maxed out. There's 'Critical Savvy' and 'Critical Banker'. I also have the Eagle Eyes mutation and I'm using Blight Soup for extra critical damage.
just take out gunsmith altogether, sure you have to repair more frequently but the trade off is more DPS. We get enough scrap in the game that you dont have to worry about it that much unless it is time you'd rather be doing other things. I may have to repair mine once or twice per day
I have a 2-shot gauss. Its broken
Is the instigating legendary effect good on the gauss rifle?
Yes.
@@wiggle_plays I mange to get 1556 dmg from a critical headshot in vats
Nice.
Hey man, is there any enemy that drops legendary gauss rifles ? I'm on xbox and I really want a Quad 50 crit dmg 15 Vats charge Gauss rifle.
I can't find one nor roll one. I'm still very new. Below lv80.
AND, Please, if youre on xbox, Id like to buy a gauss rifle with quad 50 crit dmg 15 vats charge, and night terror skin please. I'll pay in caps
Any legendary enemy has a chance to drop one.
"The weight can really creep in on you"
Gauss Minigun: Allow me yo introduce myself
Trying to make a heavy/rifle mix build so gonna be using both to make it work
How’d you get the paint for the rifle?
I'm not positive but I think it's from Nuclear Winter.
How do you get the gauss rifle? I've just started playing and i am level 35, i know i can use it starting from level 35 so i am already hyping😂
You can buy the plan from the Brotherhood vendor at the Whitespring. The cost is 3000-4000 caps.
I rolled the exact same one today 😂
DOES ANYONE SNIPE in this game... out of vats?
I run my main weapons as The fixer.. two shot explosive, aanti armour explosive, and quad explosive for sticky situations. They're all prime automatic. I run the comando and explosive and grenadier perks.
I know i would have to change to rifleman in game to use and get bonus for single shot "sniper" type of weapons. I'm happy to do that manually contextually just as I'm playing casual in the wasteland.
I want to run the gauss rifle for fun as my sniper. I'll be using prime capacitor. I'm very confused if i should go with the two shot or instigating prefix. I could go with free aim 2nd legendary but I'm looking at both them being explosive obviously because of the default weapon explosive bonus plus the added one i from the legendary explosive prefix and the perks.
I'm looking to ONE SHOT the super mutants at west tek just for fun or in other missions in open world be able to similarly ONE SHOT level 75 enemies.
Instigating seems the most logical
II have a bad feeling there's no such capability in this game to one shot level 75 enemies without mutations... even with all the right perk cards affixed. In my case sneak - explosive (AND i would have to change to rifleman for one shot bonus in the gauss )
I don't normally use VATS. I want to free aim hand aim my gauss rifle sniper with the long night vision scope. I'm sick enough of going into vats for everything else i just want to have some fun out of vats with the gauss but not sure which prefixes will help the most in a sniping sense to ONE SHOT the super mutants.
Anyone here running this weapon for a similar purpose and what's your tips?
What legendary perks would I have?
Follow Through for extra sneak attack damage
@@wiggle_plays I'm so sorry I'm new. I meant legendary perks from lvl 50-75 and so forth I noticed you have multiple classes like perception and luck and agility super high. I'm only lvl 71 not sure how to get them that high
The legendary perks have 4 ranks. You increase the rank of a legendary perk by spending perk coins. You get 2 perk coins for scrapping a regular perk. Legendary perk slots open up at ranks 50, 75, 100, 150, 200 and 300. At level 71, you will only have 1 legendary perk slot available.
I just wish gauss rifles weren't so big and ugly...
I think they're beautiful lol
Instigating. Instigating. One shot kills, let the rifle reload itself and leave the R key alone.
