i think the best way to find a unknown value in a 1m+ list is to to AB testing. Freeze half of the values and see if there is an effect, and then continue to freeze the half that has an effect. with 1m values it only take 20 trys to get to 1 option
not really , that could easily lead to a game crash. I have used cheat engine in the past with a 3d singleplayer game , and freezing even 2 wrong adresses could just freeze my game or crash it ( the freeze was pernament , couldnt just unfreeze the value as that did nothing )

a few things to keep in mind: you can use the "unchanged value" parameter, as long as the game is paused or working in the background... another way to mimic the "unchanged value" it's by doing "next scan" several times for the same value. I still did not manage to get the values for speed of walking in Left 3 Dead, or amount of damage per bullet. those may require a deeper understanding of the execution of the code.@@Swashed_

i was trying to use cheat engine on a pretty underground game- there were practically no tutorials for it and the ones i did find were completely baffling... but this was so clean and concise. Hats off!!
Cheat Engine work also for GTA 5 Online, I gave myself 1 billion and I spent them in 2 months and I had no ban. If you are low level avoid giving yourself too high a value (just for GTA ONLINE). NICE VIDEO and GREAT JOB.
You can eventually get crazy with it, like change a static address to redirect to empty space in the games code, and then you can do complex programming like setting hotkeys and then activate your cheats based on the key you press, and then go back to continue normal operations. But nowadays, I’m trying to figure out how to just change the values and opcodes and dynamic and static addresses with cheat engines’s LUA scripts instead of actually programming my own injector. some games make it so much more difficult to find the address/value. So it’s good to know some tricks like you mentioned. It’s also annoying when you hack your health display but not your actual health. Cheers.

I used to code in basic. I've been gaming since the c64. We used to call cheats 'pokes' anyway It was easy compared to this. I've realy no time to learn new languages so I guess this cheat app is useless to most people.
This was an excellent explanation of how to use cheat engine! Very easy to follow and understand the reasoning between each click. One thing i wouldve liked to know is this. If you have an RPG for example, that can be played completely offline or online, are you able to manipulate the values, save, then go back online and have these values stay? I think that if can create a save file directly to your PC or console there is a way to manipulate values and make them stay even if you go back online since the save file data is not client side/other inaccessible PC.
Thanks! Yeah you can definitely do that if you’re bringing your offline profile online. I’ve done this with Terraria, Dying Light, Dead Island, and the Borderlands games. In the case of the games I mentioned, you don’t even need to go offline to use it. The server gets the info from your client so you can use it in real-time.
Couple things that were NOT mentioned. When you modify 1 of 2 possible numbers, and it works on the title (display) of a number, like Money. Test buying something to see if that really changed the Cash, or just the display value of the cash. That way you're "sure". Secondly if you change a number and it's NOT correct, change it back, sometimes the number is a test value that breaks your game if you don't set it back to the original value, as it's a diff, an old number they use to compare, or just the display for the UI. It can be other things too, but you'll figure those out the more cheats you create. Finally there's cases where things like cash will require you to change as many as 5 numbers for it to work (that's the most I've seen to date), because they're all used to ensure cheating won't work and your save might get corrupted.

So you first scan for the value of how much exp you have, and this finds every memory address that contains that value. Then, you get more exp so the value changes and you scan for the new value, which should narrow down your search. Once you find the memory address, you can set the value to whatever you like. Also, yes, if you change the value, it should remain to whatever you set it to (assuming it’s a single player offline game)
When i do "next scan" or increase/decrease value by exact number, nothing shows up. SOmehting is different with the game im trying to do this with becasue it has worked in other games. Do you know what the problem might be?

Late comment, idk if anyone is reading but I am trying to use the money cheat on a game and when i replace the values it doesn't change the screen value but whenever I go into a menu to buy something the value I set is there, however if I try and purchase the item it says I don't have enough money. Anyone have a potential fix?
You didn’t find the actual address for money. It sounds like there’s multiple “display” values and you changed one of those. Sometimes there’s a bunch of values for something you’re trying to change so you need to find the right one. Also, it won’t work if the game you’re playing is online. Also, some values are “protected” and are hidden better and takes some messing around to find the real value

even with online games if you can find out something that the client sends to the server for something such as gold you can run that code or change that value and have it give you more than it should but because the client sends it to the server it will work on the server meaning you will actually get the value and it wont be fake its alot harder to do sometimes but it works such as on forza horizon not sure if its online or not with currency but ive tried to add values before and it went back to normal but then i had it so when i finished a race i changed the code to give me more money than it should and it actually gave me the money might not work for every game but does for most

Hey, so sometimes there’s multiple addresses that are responsible for any given value. Sometimes you have one address that’s only responsible for *displaying* the value in the UI and has nothing to do with setting the value. You would need to find the address that is in charge of changing the value and it just reading from it

I notice that you don't change the values back to their original value even if it isnt the correct one to change. Does that have any implications for the game? Can it crash if you dont revert it back or corrupt your files in any way?
I narrowed it down to 4 addresses and everything I do those 4 stay. And I can change each one and it will change in game , however it’s not accurate. I type in 999999 and I get 255$ and so forth with other things I type in , just get random numbers nothing over 255$ though. If I type 100 I get what I type, 100$. Confused
The value type byte only has a range of 0-255. So you are constrained to editing the value within that 255 range. It’s annoying and very limiting I know. My workaround for this is to give yourself 255 of a really valuable item and sell that

I just downloaded cheat engine this am it took me forever just to figure out the basics , I’m on a Mac and there aren’t many tutorials , everything I could find is people operating on windows. I kept getting an error for some sort of typo or something when trying to copy and paste the coding for big endian. what if you change the money value but when you go back in to the game the value changes back to what the money in the game. example i change the value from 1400 to 9000 but when i go back to the game nothing has change and when i look at cheat engine the value has gone back to 1400?
It’s likely you’re trying to change the value of an online game, where these values are not stored locally. The values are stores in the server which you’re connecting to, and the value you see on your screen is on your game client (local machine) and you can change what you see but not the actual value

It sounds like you're trying to do it on an online game. If it's not online, then it might be the wrong address. Sometimes there are addresses for displaying the value and sometimes there's an address for the actual value
Try just changing it by 1 or 2. If there is a hard coded cap like 999 and you change it to 9,999 then it might mess with how the game reads that value and that can cause the crash
I'm trying to do this for a 2d game called Boneraiser Minions on Steam. I managed to find something that allowed me to manipulate my gold. But it is super finicky and almost like it's reading another language. I had to use "Binary" to even scan for a second value after I changed it in game. EDIT: I justs set the scan type to 'All' and I found it!

work for zombies bo2 and before. if your host you cam change everyones values and if your not host you can only change yours

The value type byte only has a range of 0-255. So you are constrained to editing the value within that 255 range. It’s annoying and very limiting I know. My workaround for this is to give yourself 255 of a really valuable item and sell that
@@Swashed_ thanks for the quick response ! It had me confused , I tried so many different number combinations trying to surpass 255 and nothing worked. Makes a ton of sense why now. Appreciate u for the info ! I just downloaded cheat engine this am it took me forever just to figure out the basics , I’m on a Mac and there aren’t many tutorials , everything I could find is people operating on windows. I kept getting an error for some sort of typo or something when trying to copy and paste the coding for big endian. Idk if macos uses different coding than windows but I’m guessing if so then that explains why it won’t work. & when I enable and save them in the extras part of the settings menu they don’t seem to save , I go back and the boxes are unchecked. still haven’t been able to get that to work but when I search for all values it seems to work and I can find what I’m looking for.

what if you change the money value but when you go back in to the game the value changes back to what the money in the game. example i change the value from 1400 to 9000 but when i go back to the game nothing has change and when i look at cheat engine the value has gone back to 1400?
It’s likely you’re trying to change the value of an online game, where these values are not stored locally. The values are stores in the server which you’re connecting to, and the value you see on your screen is on your game client (local machine) and you can change what you see but not the actual value

Hi, I’m scanning for a value, but it’s changing after 2 seconds or so.The value is loaded into memory when doing a specific action in game but it’s overwritten after a few seconds.Can I like freeze the value/addr when it’s found or tell CheatEngine to copy it and the following 20bytes?(it’s a string)
Some games have an anti cheat mechanism that makes values jump around so you can’t scan for them. This sounds like what you’re dealing with

Won’t work in mmo. Values are server sided.

It sounds like you're trying to do it on an online game. If it's not online, then it might be the wrong address. Sometimes there are addresses for displaying the value and sometimes there's an address for the actual value

The worst thing that’ll happen is the game will crash. I usually don’t bother changing it back

I'm trying to cheat money on Dave The Diver but when I manage to find the value for the money and change it the game crashes...
Try just changing it by 1 or 2. If there is a hard coded cap like 999 and you change it to 9,999 then it might mess with how the game reads that value and that can cause the crash

I'm trying to do this for a 2d game called Boneraiser Minions on Steam. I managed to find something that allowed me to manipulate my gold. But it is super finicky and almost like it's reading another language. I had to use "Binary" to even scan for a second value after I changed it in game. EDIT: I justs set the scan type to 'All' and I found it!

i would guess searching your initial weight first then pick up more items to increase weight and search again

It might be an issue with your value type. Try scanning for all value types
