Thank you for making Pawpaw's dream come true. I lived in the general vicinity I would definitely be considering your place to buy an RV. You've made Pawpaw's dream come true
Loved the part about the CAD software and how you designed each aspect of the teardrop to fit you and your style. Glad to hear that you might be building another one after this.
Another great video. Thanks. Louvre the info on the CAD software. Also if/when/have you started on on cargo trailer? Would love to see your ideas on that. As I mentioned in one of your other videos I am in the process of converting a 6x12 myself. Keep up the great work and be safe.
Great build sir!..Darn we have the same hobbies, RC's, woodworking and Photography. New sub here and will be consulting your videos for my 5x8 build as well.
Do ply sheets come wider than 4 feet where you're from? If not, how did you deal with joining them to get the length of your camper covered ...both top and bottom? Awesome build, thank you for sharing it with us
Terrific instructional videos, Sir! Thanks so much! I do have a couple of questions that I hope you will find time to answer. 1. What is the thickness of the inside skin? 2. What kind of wood is the plywood? 3. What kind of wood is the frame? I will not be using an outer aluminium skin which undoubtedly adds important strength - that being the case, do you think I shoud use thicker framing or thicker plywood? Thanks so much. I appreciate your time and the fact you are willing to share.
Shipless Thanks for the kind words! On this build, the wall is a sandwich of Baltic Birch plywood. It’s a 5/8” skeletonized core with a 1/4” inside sheeting and 1/8” outside sheeting (all Baltic Birch). The core has foam insulation in the cutouts. The exterior, .040 painted aluminum sheet. Honestly, I hope to build another one, and plan to build solid walls from 5x10 3/4” plywood with the aluminum cladding in that. That will be way quicker.
Great video! Answered almost all my questions. Combining this video and the one you did on "what you would change" - in reference to the trailer - Would your next trailer be 5' x 9' instead of the 5' x 8' that you had designed for this build? What were the dimensions of the tubing used on the trailer frame and the tubing thickness?
I’m good with the camper body at 8ft, but I would keep it at 60” wide rather than 62”. That extra 2” caused me all kinds of hurt! It was easy to fit a queen mattress in, but really was a burden skinning the roof with aluminum. The tubing is 2x3 with a .125” wall thickness (I think).
I'm a newcomer to your channel so haven't seen any during build pictures. Do you have insulation and if so the type and I assume probably not in the sides but maybe the roof and floor?!
Welcome aboard! I’m excited to have you along! Yes, it’s insulated fairly well. I used the green foam board that Lowe’s sells for the floor, walls, and ceiling. I had to put two layers in the ceiling. It seems to hold temp well.
Awesome build. Just got a few questions for you. What are the radius you used on your build? How do we get a hold of the guy that built your trailer? Also are you located in Ohio and if so what part? I am from the Cleveland Ohio area and a buddy of mine goes to that airplane museum that you were talking about once or twice a year and that’s all he talks about so it must be awesome.
The Blind Guy Thanks for tuning in! Regarding the radius, I calculated the critical dimensions for the build (height and length) and drew an aesthetically pleasing arc around it in a CAD program. Send me a message through Facebook messenger (camp ez teardrop), and I can help you out on the plans for the sidewall construction. The trailer was custom built by Mastiff Trailers in Gainsborough, TN. He has a website that pops up on a google search for that name. Great guy and great quality! That museum is awesome! It’s about 5 hours north of me, but well worth the drive. Best of luck on your build!!
Regarding the door cost to build do you have any rough price break down? I'm trying to decide whether to build or buy. All I can find are pre fabs in the $360-400 range. Thanks. Love the vids!
coolstuff1414 After buying the frameless window, 8 pieces of trim, butyl tape, sealant, screws, latch, lock, rubber gasket, and hinges, I probably have around $280 - $300 in EACH door! I absolutely love the way they look, but at not much of a savings and a TON of work, I’d think long and hard about building them again (this design anyway). I would say to check out the TNTTT website. There are lots of ideas on there about door construction. Best of luck to you!
coolstuff1414 They were an eBay find. If you decide to go that route, be sure that the windows come with Trim Rings. You’ll need them for the installation.
e string The box is pretty much built, but I’m waiting to see how much the tongue weight is before I permanently install it. I’m trying to keep the tongue weight at 15% of the total weight. If it’s too heavy, I may need to modify it.
Has the price of doors gone up since you made this video? It's about $1000 to get two doors nowadays. I can't imagine that's what you paid into your door build here. There might be that much in sweat equity though.
Yes, doors have certainly gone up. However, I imagine the DIY door parts have as well. My best advice is, if pre-made doors are fine with the builder, that’s definitely the way to go. If you’re really wanting the rounded look, then DIY is the only way to go.
I am building my own travel trailer, can you provide an Email address so I can send you photos of how I move it without wheels nor axle using snowmobile dollies?
charlevoix418 Do you have Facebook? If so, you could send the pics through messenger. My page is “Camp EZ Teardrop”. Also, thanks very much in advance!

I sure look forward to another one!
You did a great job on your teardrop build. Thank you for your inspiration.
Thank you!
Thank you so much for Paw Paw's Bless you
Love the background info. Nice work.

Thanks for the tips.

Thanks so much! I hope to get started in the conversion soon. The cold temps and short daylight hours are crimping my style a bit. Lol!

sfv6 Thanks for the sub! Sometimes I think I have too many hobbies, but I just can’t seem to lay any of them to the side!

Joe Horvat I used 4x8 sheets that I edge glued together. The walls are three layers thick, so I put the joints in different locations on each layer.

remember to turn the switch on before making adjustment

Not anytime soon. This was a personal project. I really appreciate the inquiry through!
