You're most likely correct about it making him worse. I went to prison for DWI3rd and since I got out have had 3 instances of violence. At age 35 all of a sudden I become a violent person? I'm still scared of what I might do when confronted. He will, if he has a drug problem, end up in jail even if granted probation. As an alcoholic I couldn't make it. I've given up the boose now. Sorry this happened to you. Thieves are despicable.
After talking to prosecutor, I don't see jail time for this offense due to the lack of physical violence. It may be a felony, but its still garden-variety theft. He will probably get probation.
