I know that the valonqar prophecy eliminates the possibility of Gendry being Cersei and Robert's child, but nevertheless I think George still flirts with the possibility anyway. In this chapter, Gendry tells us that his mother had yellow hair and worked in an alehouse. Then later on in AFFC as Jaime stands guard over Tywin's corpse in the Sept, Cersei sneaks in to visit him dressed as a tavern wench. And while they're talking, she acknowledged she'd donned a similar disguise and snuck visits with him before. So if she has a history of disguising herself that way, whose to say that she couldn't have done so to covertly visit a son she gave up? It's like George is trolling us or something.

"Stout, jowly Janos Slynt puffed himself up like an angry frog, his bald pate reddening. “Aegon the Dragon himself could not keep the peace, Lord Renly. I need more men.”
So you think he just rolled up to court to complain, but didn't at least think of a working strategy to make it easier on him? He had to at least be good at managing the men on a day to day basis because if he was truly that incompetent he'd be worthless to Littlefinger. He was smart enough to have key people in places to take care of unsavory tasks like killing bastards and to at least manage the rounds of the watch so his enemies would be killed before testifying against him.
And stannis just told us that he was corrupt and sold promotions that's not incompetence that's greed.
“Any of you, I would think. Even the cook.” The look the king gave Slynt was cold. “Janos was hardly the first gold cloak ever to take a bribe, I grant you, but he may have been the first commander to fatten his purse by selling places and promotions. By the end he must have had half the officers in the City Watch paying him part of their wages. Isn’t that so, Janos?”

Stannis wanted Jon to tell Robert because he figured it'd be too self serving if he said his wife was cheating and all his kids were bastards. Robert makes use of Stannis but there is no real love or trust there.
Granted I don't think we figure this out until Book two...
Lady stoneheart and Berric... Which is why I REALLY hate how unchanged Jon was by his death. Like I feel bad for all the Jon x Danny shippers, cuz yes berric has been killed multiple times but he never seems to eat or drink or sleep. I don't think um....certain physiological aspects of Jon will work when he comes back from the dead.
No offense Gray Lady but Gendry would be a terrible king. As far as we know he's not even literate. You have to be trained and cultivated into leadership, mentored and grow over time in wisdom and experience. Egg walked amongst the small folk and sought to make their lives easier and he got so much push back for it. Also remember the blackfyre rebellion too many people still see even legitimized bastards as bastards. Untrustworthy and inherently treacherous.

I doubt Gendry knows how to rework valyrian steel, only because I believe in order to do so, you need to employ blood magic. Meaning Tobho Mott most likely had to sacrifice something, or someone, to reforge Ice into Oathkeeper & Widow's Wail.

I agree that Gendry probably doesn't know everything about reworking the steel, since he's a fairly young apprentice, but I think he knows some of what goes into it. Either way I think he'll learn through another source. And I think that source will be from Arya - I think there is a chance she comes across some things in the HOBAW that she either steals before she leaves or is given to her by them as I think the HOBAW have other intentions with Arya, or Arya ends up in Old Town and is given what Jaqen has stolen which is probably the Blood & Fire book which most likely would be a great Valyrian source overall. But like I said, I do think he'll learn it before the end regardless of how he receives the information. :)

Gray, considering the Nature vs. Nurture theory regarding the dynamic between Tyrion and Tywin, could Tyrion have simply learned to understand and emulate Tywin from a need to prove he was a Lannister for so many years, even if he really is a Targaryen? That dynamic could have formed by Tyrion always needing to prove he fit in as a son, whereas Jaime never had to prove anything to fit in.

Tyrion would still be a Lannister even if Aerys II was his father. Joanna was Tywin's first cousin, thus a Lannister. Not to mention, he was raised by Tywin and the Lannisters, regardless, so he would still be a Lannister. He would also still be Tywin's son, because Tywin raised him. After all everyone still regards Jon as a Stark regardless of who his father is and they still regard Ned as his father. His mother was a Stark, Ned raised him as a Stark with Stark values. It can be the same for Tyrion too. Blood is not more important than how someone is raised.

The Tullys are definitely unfit to rule, so are the Starks, except maybe Sansa, and the Lannisters are too drunk to know what they're doing. The Martell family is oblivious. Also during the time Tyrion could have been conceived, something dramatically changed in Tywin's and Aerys' fraught relationship enough for Tywin to try to quit being Hand, which is something considering he was already putting up enough of Aerys' crap already.
