Rammstein deliver amazing performances all over the world, but one thing doesn't change and that is the language, german. I did this so that the part of their audience that does not speak german can enjoy, understand and interpret what Til is singing about. This song is about childhood nightmares. It makes reference to an old German childrens TV show named Der Sandmann. It was used as the introductory and the final song to the movie Lilja 4-ever.

"The Sandman" based on a grim story/fairy tale by the German romantic author E. T. A. Hoffmann, first published in 1816. Originally published in the "Night Pieces" collection, it is still very well known and offers material for a wide range of interpretations. The fate of the student Nathanael is described, who goes crazy under the influence of traumatic childhood memories and ultimately commits suicide. It remains unclear to what extent he fell victim to an intrigue or succumbed solely to his own delusions.
The little Sandmann to whom the song 'Mein Herz Brennt' by Rammstein refers is actually a cute German fairy tale character continuously presented on German Television since the 1960s. In the fairy tale the little sandman comes to the children every evening to sprinkle fine sleep sand in their eyes so that they can get tired and put to bed. After the broadcasting each child knows that the day is over and it has to go to bed now. The sentence with which the Rammstein song begins , is exactly the same sentence the little Sandman always said before telling one of his stories. I myself watched these broadcasting when I was a child and I loved them.

We all know the Rammstein T is a Swiss cross. R+A are similar to each other but with the A,R+T recognised the puzzle is solved .. You can now read it all to sing along

It's amazing how (maybe having 2 years of German 15 years ago stuck in my subconscious) that there are so many words in English from German to the point where you can really pick them out. Even before I read the lyrics, I understood the song was about someone telling children tales about evil shit, just from listening to the lyrics, and I don't speak German.

That's because English is a West Germanic language that originated from Anglo-Frisian dialects brought to Britain in the mid 5th to 7th centuries AD by Anglo-Saxon settlers from what is now northwest Germany, west Denmark and the Netherlands, displacing the Celtic languages that previously predominated. Whole story short - English comes from German, basically. The two languages do however have their difference, and not a lot of people can understand German aswell as English (being native to English, that is). Guess we're some of the lucky few?

But he isn't saying that in this song. Also "forcefully closing" would be "zupressen", if we are precise. "Erpressen" means "blackmailing" or pressuring (making) you into (doing) something (which you actually don't want to do). Pressen = pressuring.

Sorry, it must mean at this point 3:02 "Well, dear children, beware" ... "dear", not "little" (in German: "Liebe Kinder", not "kleine Kinder"). At least that's what I believe. My English is not good. And Google translator is also not perfect ;)
