As a beginner I really appreciate what Donner is giving folks here. The prices on this stuff is such a huge barrier to entry that making devices that are good enough and simple to approach means a lot in my opinion. I think great artists are gonna come out of this.

I've been waiting for this thing to drop. I love the B1. Hopefully this will get the B1 treatment. A good firmware update and a substantial price drop. Listed at £289 (£239 with presale discount), I couldn't justify buying this over the competitors you mentioned. In the meantime I will strap myself in for the dozens of incoming reviews, from content makers that are about to have this thing sent to them.
Also, I just bought myself the amazing Microfreak, due to your great videos. So that will keep me more than occupied whilst I wait.

Between my Korg Drumlogue and Yamaha Seqtrak I'm covered for drum sequencing hardware, and then some. Very cool for the price though. I personally believe in saving a bit longer for the synth that you _really_ want instead of settling. 🤷 Maybe that's just me. One could also drop $15 on FL Studio Mobile and another $15 on Koala Sampler and skip right to making music. On the go, no less.
Thanks for another great review! ✌️✨

Nice! A feature filled entry that won't break the bank. I think they've find a nice spot (similar to Sonicware) - stuff that's very feature filled, pretty decent build quality (maybe not road warrior tank level, but more than fine) - and priced at a point where a teenager could get into them by themselves.
I'm sure some older gear snobs will turn up their noses for some reason, but I think some of those folks forget that not everyone can afford to grab a digitakt or TR-8S or something on a whim when they need a drum machine.
Just like Korg Volca's, I think these are great for folks to get and expand their music creating hobby. Good stuff.

At £289 its not a bad buy, but it does need a few changes, i agree a chromatic pad mode would be great and selectable perameters for tracks. At the end of the day though, theres a lot there for the money before you pay a lot more and get into drumlogue etc... territory.

Another alternative for this: try finding a 2nd hand Arturia SparkLE. This is a hardware controller, the actual software (standalone, VST2) runs on your PC/laptop, so yes you need to bring your laptop too. But: - it can do everything this Donner D1 can do, - it can do much more, wihtout the limitations of the D1, - it can be found for ~€100-150 (price in Germany).
I have one. Thought I would use it a lot. But I don't, mainly it can do way too much, so I never ever get past the stage of "auditioning drum sounds".

Imagine putting anything beside the effects tail in a left to right stereo field! In the 80ties that would have been essential. Nowadays they don’t even bother to put such “outrages” stuff in the presets. It’s almost as if multitracking has never been invented. I’d better keep my Stylophone beat then. It’s dead cheap, mono and at least has a great rock kit on it which is actually the reason I bought it in spite of its limitations. In short: Postmodernism has killed creativity.
