Now they generally get around 70% of this which would be around $210 per hour. They have to pay super which mea roughly left with around $190 per hour. Which means roughly $900 per day when tax subtracted. $600. Remember GPs have no annual leave either once contracted. This would be the ideal scenario. Currently under Medicare rebate a GP gets around half that or less per day if they bulk bill fully.

Yes is diabolical situation, sometimes all you want is a new script for you medications, as they often only allow 2 other repeat scripts, now you have to pay at my local clinic $90- 145 for someone just to fill out a form, why can't they let pharmacists do it? Most know more more than some doctors anyway. I know a few people that won't be seeing a Dr now until they are at deaths door so sad for this country. don't know what you've got till it's gone.
There needs to be a shift to Government Medical Centres -Not for profit. All services that shift to private sector for profit end up only making things more unaffordable and less accessible

Im going through a similar thing now my Dr retired after 40yrs of being a patient and the new Dr wont accept pharmacy requests for repeat scripts so I have to make an appointment and on the first visit he said I give you a repeat script this time but I won't be giving you any more I don't believe you need this medication, the medication has kept me stable/alive for 20 years, now Im afraid my health will be jeopardised while he decides my medical future. Some years ago Germany introduced an upfront fee for a doctor's visit. It was assessed to not be effective as administration costs rose but also the healthcare companies made big profits. These healthcare providers were then not allowed to raise consumer payments. The government reversed the practice and it has not been in discussion again. Ask how inefficient our healthcare providers are and how much they spend on administration and directors etc. Profits will go to the middlemen who are the drivers of greed. Also, reassess how much treatments in hospitals are reimbursed. The best remedy is the most effective and initiated in the early stage of health issues but many of these treatments are reserved only for private patients/clients. When we try to manage care for profit we will fail to deliver effective care to the patient and incur more costs on the healthcare system or people unnecessarily suffer and eventually die as a result of substandard care based on income. What happened to excellence in medicine? oh, it was replaced with care for profit.
I am more than happy to pay to see a GP, especially if it means I don’t have to wait days to see one because of all of the hypochondriacs and welfare bludgers who only see a doctor because it’s free. There is a strong sense of self-entitlement in this country, among people, and it needs to stop.
The real reason you have to wait is this… Doctors get paid per rebate. There’s a financial incentive for doctors to do as many consultations per hour as possible. To make sure doctors are NEVER waiting for patients, some clinics overbook. Their view is that it’s better (financially for them) that the customer waits than the doctor. If your GP clinic makes you wait too long, give them a bad review on social media. And change clinics.

GP’s work really hard, spending years to study and become qualified to bwcome a doctor, and then go theough the financial gamble and stress to run a GP clinic (on tight profit margins). There are disabled people that live on pension below poverty line. And you shane the most vulnerable people who have no choice but to be on disability pension snd below poverty line

Australia needs to train more doctors. If there is a huge increase in supply, doctors will be forced to compete for customers. This means many doctors will accept bulk billing.
Many GPs and specialists want to come to Australia but the system in place is designed to exclude them so they wouldnt increase the competition for the Drs.

Australia (and it’s residents) import many things. Australia’s exports are mostly from the mining and education sectors. A lot of the education that Australia “exports” is thanks to visas that the graduates are granted (ie Australia is actually exporting visas). The greater Australia’s trade surplus, the less pressure there is on Australia to export education (especially education incentivised though future skilled migration). The best way to change this is to purchase less imported products. Send less money back “home”. Encourage family to visit you in Australia (as tourism is an export). Encourage people you know overseas to buy Australian products.
You don’t know what your talking about! A Dr can make 400-450k per year! Out of that for the year $150k is just wages for the staff, $85k rent for building, medical supplies $50k, IT support, telephones and internet $52k, business loans plus home loan repayment $72k, insurances $7k and of course let’s not forget the TAX, GST and Super and there’s plenty more small expenses like maintenance and home bills. Still think Drs are greedy? Do the calculations and see how much is left. They work so hard, finishing 7-8pm every night and many don’t pay themselves wages! I say Drs deserve to be properly compensated for their hard work.
We will end up going to the hospital emergency for all help instead of local Gp’s

looks like our health system is going to become like America's and that is very worrying. Eventually everything will cost an arm and a leg.
It's not just GP's either. I need to see a dermatologist & with medicare I still have to pay $200.

Don't fill the Emergency Department with your prescription repeats. That's overkill. Online they can give you repeats for previously prescribed meds

I go to my GP and late model Merc for Dr. Also husband has late model Merc. All Dr's want Merc because it's status
