Scott Johnson & The End Of A Career - Pamela Young | I Catch Killers
Retired Detective Chief Inspector Pamela Young was a high-flying homicide detective, working cold cases and catching killers. One case brought her career to a sudden stop - death of a young man called Scott Johnson in 1988. In the final part of this four-part special interview Pamela talks Gary Jubelin through the case and how it led to her undoing.

This was a great podcast from you both. When you say why aren’t people joining the police force well what happened to both of you from internally and the hierarchy no support there’s your answer. I didn’t know of Pamela before this but as a woman I’m very proud of her. I knew of you Gary from many cases you were involved in and the NSW Police are fools and have let go dedicated and passionate police detectives. Shame on them. 😡

I really enjoyed these 4 episodes. Thank you Gary and Pamela for your dedicated service. It's really disappointing that the police hierarchy threw all the good cops under a bus to protect their golden jewel. I'm glad you and Pamela remain good friends and can share fond memories in the cops, both personal and professional. I'm glad you both found solace in your afterlife. Really enjoy your podcasts.

Best podcast that I’ve enjoyed! So informative and incredibly inspiring 4 part series. It’s amazing how much the police and media can distort the truth and I’m so proud that both of you have shared your experiences and used your voice so the public can better understand and view the narratives to which have been presented, through a much clearer and a more accurate lens. Pam is such a strong and inspiring woman and Gary is a stand up man, both have attributed to so serving so much for our communities. Thank you

Hi Gary and Pamela, I think is absolutely disgusting the way the police force throw you both to the wolves no wonder we don’t have wonderful police officers like yourselves, working hard to achieve what you have done. My heart goes out to you both, unfortunately the big poppy syndrome is still a right and well in Australia. I want to say thank you for your service and to all of the good cops out there.

Oh yes Pam & Gary corporate treachery is very much alive and well and skilfully executed by those who typically lack and sense of sense of self or the ability to self reflect or accept any form of criticism without feeling attacked. You’ve both contributed so much of your lives that it was quite difficult to listen to your own personal experiences leading to your retirements. Just want to say thank you both.

The reason why that man, (who by the way did not come from a privileged background and had accrued his “wealth” by dint of sheer hard work and through his own intelligence) was forced to create this media pressure to find justice for his brother was because all victims were NOT in fact treated as “equal”. Gay men were not treated as equal, which is why this family were left in agony for over TWENTY YEARS. Yes, he used the resources available to him to find justice for his brother- but why should he have had to forge those connections, why should he have to have spent one cent of his own money on doing the work that Australian police should have done in the first place? I don’t think that this woman is necessary homophobic, but she does come across as crashingly insensitive, considering the treatment that Scott Johnson’s family had already had to endure for decades from the institution that she worked for.

I didn’t know much about Gary but the glimpses I saw before the betrayal by all your ultra cowardly superiors ( so - called ). .. was glaringly obvious to me. I didn’t know anything if Pamela til these podcasts and. … ditto. . I give thanks to god that people like you both are still breathing and working for the highest good of us all in this god forsaken cesspool of corruption that has swamped our Australian and global power structures . I’ve watched it happen over 70 years. , and bless every single person who stays real and cares . Bless you both . An Aussie gran .

I’m absolutely disgusted by the way you laughed about not believing in ptsd..both my husband and I have ptsd as a result of being police officers, my husband 34 years myself nearly 20..it was this attitude by management that caused both of us to nearly lose our lives..we are the lucky ones because we have fantastic support, sadly not from the organisation we proudly served, but family friends and professionals..with attitudes that ptsd doesn’t exist we will continue to lose members to the job and sadly, worse, members will lose their lives..I for one am very proud that I had the strength to put up my hand to admit I have ptsd..even prouder of my husband

People can laugh at whatever they like. Your offence to that is your problem. Your beliefs around ptsd are yours and nobody can take that away from you. We all have different perspectives for which we are allowed to have.

Sorry (but not sorry) you are seriously kidding yourselves if you think people are going to disregard all your comments about how badly you were both shafted, to then get excited and be attracted to the job. It just seems like for whatever reasons you are in some ways trying to promote a job in an organisation that has good form (obviously) for shafting it's staff and dishes out appauling treatment (that you describe) that is engrained in the fabric of this organisation. It would take decades to stamp out the toxic behaviour that you are describing, and it's highly unlikely that will be on the cards any time soon.
Why you would happily encourage young people ( or anyone for that matter) to join such a toxic broken culture (that does not reward hard work, and then is keen for shafting it's best performers whenever/wherever) is totally beyond me.

I have friends who have left the police force because of the high stress levels dealing with the levels of violence and abuse by the public , which in recent times seems to have escalated intensely , particularly in drug or domestic conflicts . I think the police culture has actually changed negatively , and so has the Australian culture . Sadly . I pray it all improves soon .

Pamela the misogyny comes from highly emasculated males. While the Albanese government is in play there will be misogyny and misandry! This comes down to personalities of which I’m sure you’re aware of. These same narcissistic people are the ones that could not handle the truths that you said in your Lateline interview. These people are not able to grow up. I am proud of you Pamela and you Gary for the people that you are and the integrity and values system that you both stand by.

Regarding recruitment for police, the treatment of peaceful protesters by the police and other covid related issues, depleted the little respect that was left for the police in this nation since the change of policing began from the late eighties to early nineties from a constabulary to a "force" imo.
