My mom has guardianship over my nephew. I laughed when you said it's like a permanent babysitter because that's exactly what it is. During my first marriage I had (gave birth) to 2 children. During and after our divorce I had physical custody and my ex had visitation every other weekend. Due to the custody laws in Florida at the time I was only allowed to move 150 miles without the courts permission. I moved 149 miles into Georgia. My former monster-in-law tried to bully me into moving back but I did my research and knew my rights! I love you, your videos and your family!
Thank you for sharing so much of your life. I was at the store the other day and heard a little boy laugh just like Eddie!😁 They're your kids once you adopt them. My daughter used a sperm donor and the questions she gets about her baby is unbelievable.
thank you for explaining this! I've always wanted to adopt when the time comes and always have been scared that someone else would be the one controlling what happened to my kid if I adopted and yes I know that sounds stupid! Lol but not a lot of people talk about the finer points and details of adoption so thank you! 😸😸😸
I think they allow adoptive parents to change the kid's SSN to prevent the birth parents from trying to 'use' the numbers to open credit cards, loans, etc. There are definitely some ex-parents out there who would try to fraudulently use their kid's SSNs for their own benefit. Also, it probably makes it harder for the birth parents to search for the kids after they have given up parental rights to the kids.
I dont think some people understand the concept of adoption, it's your child legally when you adopt and no it's not just in the USA it goes for international adoption too, I have 4 international adopted siblings.

I’ve been legal guardian of my 17&19 year old granddaughters 7 years. The 19 year old says she’s NOT leaving! LOL I’m bio maternal grandmother. While going through the process, I felt my life was not my own. Major invasion of our privacy! Anyway, one major restriction. If there was a major medical issue, legally, I couldn’t handle it. I would have to notify my daughter. 🌻🤗💕
With my Dad he had full legal and physical custody. My Mom had visitation rights. At 16yr old we could decide to live with our Mom if we wanted to and as long as they were both in agreement the courts would not be involved. That was with me and my oldest brother. My 3 younger siblings were given to my Dad's Mom and her husband for guardianship transfer. My Dad still had visitation rights and They could not move a certain distance away from my Dad as he would have automatically assumed full custody had anything happened to them. They still had their original BC and SSC. Now later due to financial reasons on my grandparents side they adopted my 3 siblings when they were around 10 plus years old. That is when my grandparents had full control to do whatever, legally, they wanted to. And didn't have to let me, my brother or Dad have anything to do with them ever again. Their last names changed but I don't know if the SSC # changed. In my Dad's situation his Mom and her husband were a blessing. He was a young adult having way too many kids. Not sure if all were even his. But he claims them all just the same. He just couldn't raise all of us under the same roof. But we grew up knowing each other. I think that made it a bit easier not having lies to keep. Anyway go 4th & B Fabulous!💝
Your videos are so informative! Transfer of Guardianship is great if you don't want to adopt but need temporary legal custody. For instance, when my dad and step mom were going through a rough time and it started to have a negative impact on my little brother I was given guardianship of him. It allowed me to have some legal rights over him and enroll him in school without having to adopt him as it was a temporary situation. Just wanted to provide a different perspective out side of the norm for why you would use that... Also, my husband and I are thinking about fostering and eventually adopting. Your videos are so helpful!! Thanks for taking the time to explain things so thoroughly. P.S. I LOVE the kitty cat noises haha.
From my perspective I think the reason people question is because there's standards before you are allowed to have parental rights over the child. It seems strange (although logical) that the governing bodies would place the children in a safe, secure home and then be done with the case. It also makes sense that they may have to follow up to make sure things are going well and moving out of state/country could prevent that. Also most people have experience with a joint custody situation rather than an adoption situation and there often are rules about moving in those circumstances.
You may wish to do a vlog explaining all of the different people involved that you will deal with in the foster care system. You know, the Guardian ad litem, foster parents, house parents at group home, case worker, power of attorney, transitional care therapist. On and on ad infinitum
If I may, on the transfer of guardianship? I work with individuals with disabilities (so not the same situation but this is one understanding). One person I care for, their parents are in their 70s. This person is nonverbal and requires full supports. They have a guardian so that if something happens to mom and dad, they will have someone who won’t take advantage of them financially or they won’t simply become a ward of the state. This guardian isn’t a family member, but through a company and it brings peace to their parents so they know their child will always be well taken care of and good decisions will be made for the child. 💕
I switched pulmonologist Dr's and they put me on an injection med called 'Dupixent' (once every two weeks, not bad honestly). But I haven't had to use my emergency inhaler in about 6 weeks now (was using it 1-3 times a day), and it is allowing me the opportunity to go back to an active lifestyle. Not sure if you are a candidate, but it has helped my asthma tremendously so I am swearing by it! Hope you feel better!
hey kim for all natural winter cold cures try making a batch of fire cider, try homemade cough drops with lemon honey and stuff, and also homemade cough drinks, like pineapple turmeric and ginger. and look up jacksonville, fl planning to move there when i have kids, its beautiful you can find plenty outdoor or indoor things to do, lots of other places close to explore like historic st augustine, orlando, etc, lots of great food, beaches and more. check it out its gorgeous. i always feel a sense of home when i go there
No matter what you do, read and understand your paperwork before signing. Our own attorney's office messed up our paperwork and had me adopting our kids from my husband instead of from his ex!!! WTF?! We can laugh about it now...
The US News and World report does a ranking of the best states by a lot of measures. I know the number one state for education (K-12) is Massachusetts but you'd still have cold winters if you moved there. You could check out that site and see the rankings, they rank for a lot of other things as well (healthcare, economy, crime, infrastructure, etc.). I just checked the website, and based on their rankings in healthcare, education, economy, infrastructure, opportunity, fiscal stability, crime and corrections, and natural environment the top ten states are Washington, New Hampshire, Minnesota, Utah, Vermont, Maryland, Virginia, Massachusetts, Nebraska, and Colorado. The bottom ten are Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Oklahoma, Alaska, Arkansas, New Mexico, West Virginia, Mississippi, Alabama, and Louisiana.
I was born in DC but moved to Jacksonville FL about 9 yrs ago and so happy here. I haven’t seen snow in 9yrs we do get cold at times but it’s only in January.
I'm also from Louisiana. This morning I had AC on and shorts and by tonight I have the heater on with pj pants lol. Louisiana is def bipolar when it comes to weather! Lol
I agree about Nevada. I was born and raised in Las Vegas. Our school system is trash and healthcare is a hit or miss. It’s great solely on the insurance you get...which is crazy.
i can't wait to move out of connecticut either, its wayyyy tooo cold. i kinda want to check out phoenix or tampa or cali. i also can't wait to be able to start fostering. your videos defiantly helped. i love watching your videos.
I'm from Arizona question is can you handle our 120 degrees Fahrenheit. I left three and a half years ago for Alaska to be cold I'm enjoying being cold.
Here in Indiana we have to let state know if we move. They have to have an updated address at all times. We also have to fill out a paper yearly letting them know how everything with the girls is going and they are doing. This is only for those of us who adopt out of foster care. Our names are on all 3 girls birth certificate.
Hi Kimberly, I am also asthmatic, & I've been dealing w/ the same bug that you & Eddie have had. I've had the same coughing spells that you've had. I lived in Colorado for over 30 years b4 I moved back to my home state (upstate New York). Please listen: BEFORE you consider moving to ANY state in the southwest: here's some things you should know (& I went through them!): 1. All states in the southwest are ARID. 12-30% humidity is normal. DUST is VERY common. 2. All states in the southwest get wildfires--BAD ONES. These wildfires can blow up at ANY time, & the smoke & ashes can blow for miles. (When I lived in Colorado Springs a wildfire in New Mexico was so bad that the dust & ashes blew ALL the way to Colorado Springs--roughly 100 miles. No, not kidding.) There are times when the dust/air is so bad that the TV stations come on with warnings to those who have breathing problems to stay inside & leave their air conditioners on. 2. Southwestern states get blizzards--bad ones!, but roads are not, as a rule salted. People are NOT used to driving in these blizzards, & 20-45 car pileups are common. 3. Please CAREFULLY check out the school systems. 4. Please CAREFULLY check out whether the state you're consider is a "Right to Work" state. --Blessings & Peace.
I had no idea that a birth certificate can be changed. I always assumed that it was always the biological parents on the birth certificate regardless of the situation... but that makes so much more sense as to why it's so hard for some adopted children to find their biological parents.
I’m getting outta here too..lol. I live in the Poconos in Pennsylvania and it’s cold up here. 2 miles off the mountain I live on can be as much as a 10degree difference. My kids are grown and married. I wanna move to San Antonio Texas. I don’t know anybody there but that’s ok. It’s so good to want to move where your kids can have the best life possible. I like you Kim...you’re alright😉👍🏽
Thank you Ms. Kim for sharing an interesting and informative video. Take care and all the best to you, Lizzie, Eddie, Grandmom and Mrs. Christine and her family. Tina in Cali

Yessss to your vlogmas comment 😂 I just watched a vlogmas day idk and it was thanksgiving. Like excuse me? So ya, don’t feel bad. It’s not even the same
My sister and brother in law gave my parents guardianship of my niece for 2 years. My brother in law was going to med school in another country and they did not want their daughter to go to school in that country. So my niece moved in with my parents, and there was a temp transfer of guardianship for her to her grandparents. I know had to do both a legal and medical transfer so that my parents could sign all the school papers and make any medical decisions for her. Since my sister and brother in law were in another country, it would have been close to impossible to get a hold of them at get medical consent if there was a medical emergency for my niece.
Thanks for sharing your experiences and knowledge with us Kim. I love seeing your beautiful blended family on RUclips. Not only are you super funny but you are such an inspiration and I’m proud of you. I have a feeling that shared guardian ship may cause problems for all involved....that’s a tricky one.Sending ❤️❤️❤️
I envy y'all in Connecticut if school gets cancelled over this much snow. Here in Canada there could be 50cm of snow and school would not be cancelled :(
Kedia Ajax I was super surprised that our schools closed that day because we can get this same amount of snow again, and the schools will be open. It’s really silly how/when they decide to close the school here. Ohhhhhh... and when I lived in Arkansas.... it snowed a DUST of amount of snow.... and they told people to stay off of the roads and closed the schools. 🤣. It was so little snow.... you could still see the ground! It looked like powered sugar on a donut. 😂
@@HoldenItDown That is too funny! And here I am walking to my exams in the middle of brutal blizzards!! Here in Canada they only close things if it is snowing so bad you cannot see two feet in front of your face, otherwise it is fair game. I also dream of moving somewhere warmer like Texas or California but I would miss home too much.
I dont live in Nevada, I live in idaho , but as another start with a not so great health care system I can say yeah it's not that great. Although not all the schools are bad. Same with idaho. There are some really good schools but because it is mostly left to local control everything varies quite a bit
I think those questions try to ask if after adoption you still get visitations and have to like keep being supervised so that would stop you from moving away from the state
My mom did TOG with my little cousins for seven months and we had to ask permission to do everything. Where we stay, we don’t have a lot of things to do.
I love your channel and I love how absolutely really you keep it. You don't put a cute soundtrack in the back and only highlight the good aspects of fostering and adopting dot-dot. You keep it all the way real and people that are considering becoming a foster parent or parents or becoming foster parents and adopting excetera I need to know exactly what to expect. Yes they are told ... but they can't possibly be told every single possible thing that could happen and or every possible feeling, situation, outcome excetera so it's just nice to see a real life scenario someone that was a foster parent that did adopt and that it is a beautiful positive thing but that the system is a mess and you get what you get it's not like flipping through a flipping catalog and picking the cutest child or a way to go through a bunch of kids and pick your favorite. Lol it's sad but it's a common misconception. Also you can completely Bond and fall in love with a child and they can end up back with their biological parent or a relative and that that can be extremely heartbreaking. The courts favor reunification of families over everything and that is because the system is broken and overflowing with children if they don't have placement for especially right now do do this drug epidemic. Either way I just wanted to say that I love how honest you are and but you decided to do what you did and in doing so saved to absolutely adorible children from idk what n idc, YOU DID is all that matters. your video about why you adopted white kids is what showed up on my feed for obvious reasons as you stated in the video. As much as our world is progressing it's about to be 2020 you can't even believe that LOL but sadly there are very ignorant people that just will never understand or believe that White children should be raised by white parents and black children should be raised by black parents. I guess what they're not thinking of is the fact that having a loving parents that cares is better than having a neglected parent that possibly abuses them. There's no black or white in that! Also they're not familiar with the system like you are. I know you need the video to just shut people up I would have done the same. That should not at all be living will think when they see your videos but sadly of course it's the elephant in the room and I'm glad you addressed it so more people were drawn to your Channel to have anything at least be educated about adoption and fostering and possibly even be motivated to do the same for the right reasons! The movie instant family I said was a huge marketing tool for foster care. Which is a good thing I just really hope that everyone who gets themselves involved does their homework and finds channels like yours really educate themselves on every level because it's exactly the same as having a baby. You're going to be responsible for Little Lives. It's just a lot more complicated due to the fact that some of these children are coming from horrible situations and they have certain behaviors Etc and just the fact that it's not biological. It doesn't make it any less beautiful and I commend you and thank you for having this Channel and using your experiences for good!!
That’s interesting about the ssn. Since my son was a newborn and I had custody of him when he was born, I didn’t get his ssn until after he was adopted.
I'm thinking about moving to Arizona. I want to work for a company there and I really love the desert scenery. If I get tired of the heat I can just drive north and it'll be cooler
Research Louisiana! We get all four seasons (we have sub-tropic weather.) We don't get very much snow but maybe once or twice a year in January if that. One day it's warm, the next day it's cold. The summers are long, the food is great and even greater depending on the city you visit. The schools are pretty good too. The people are generally kind and welcoming. Every now and then you'll meet some rude ones but this is moreso certain individuals, as oppose to the general population itself. Housing is affordable. Getting assistance as a single parent or low income household isn't difficult as of healthcare for kids and ect (although this could vary by city or parish as well). People are willing to help when you break down on side of the road and ect. The only thing is there's lack of diversity compared to what you might be used to on the East Coast. Certain Parishes may have more or less of a particular race, but still pretty safe to set up a nice life out here. It's quiet for the most part and the air isn't polluted, especially if you can find a more rural area to live. I don't want to say where I live on here, but I can tell you some areas you might like to research if Louisiana is somewhere you were interested in! Even if it's just to visit for a vacay I can tell you some spots to eat at, ect.
It's my understanding that there are some other rules for other areas, under certain circumstances. At least in Alaska if you adopt a native child you have to stay in the state for 5 years and in that time anyone from the tribe can "claim" them.
Take care of yourself. A Vick's steam vaporizer in your bedroom overnite could help this time of the year. The drop in temperatures is a drop in pressure and creates congestion which drains into your throught causing you to cough. Also, over the counter Claritin D 24 hr or generic will clear up the congestion so you won't cough.
I think people may think there’s still a period after adoption where you’re under observation just to make sure the children are safe and the adoptive parents don’t change after the adoption goes through
Ashley Nope.. No period after Adoption for observation. It’s just like giving birth to a child.... after you leave the hospital... no one observes the new parents after the baby is born.
I have my grandchildren and have had them for 13 years and in process of adoption now only because they need finiallizatuon and move on . Parents haven't been active for years in there life . I could tell you so much.
My mother raised 3 of my bothers children adopting my 2. No problem taking them anywhere in the States or abroad and it was never mention before, during or after the adoption proceedings. It's just like you said, they're yours as if you give birth to them yourself. We didn't know about that SS part, but I'm sure mom wouldn't have changed them anyway had she known.
I use to be in foster care and it was called placed in permanent foster care until I was 18 years old I was already 15 years old and I got to choice what I wanted my mom did do the transfer with my little sisters dad untill she was 13 years old now she lives with my mother again... so I get what you are saying
I’m not sure where you’re planning on moving in the future but I hope you and your family are happy wherever y’all go! Personally I would never leave my Lone Star state for anywhere. Can’t beat the awesome BBQ and Tex Mex! (And Whataburger...and Buc-ee’s)
Ive always thought it strange to drive to your kids bus stop unless its cold i guess, but then I would think well just go pick them up from school unless kids are in different schools (maybe I answered my own questions) lol
It's a Connecticut thing! Where I lived in CT some of the neighborhoods are a bit rural, so if there were 5 or 6 kids on one street the bus would drop them off/pick them up at the end of the street. Some of the streets were kind of long so parents would meet them there. In a city, kids walk to school. In a very rural area kids usually don't live close enough to get picked up at a communal spot, so they all get picked up in front of their own house
You are right..You are a permanent babysitter when you do guardianship that’s why we turned a child down..It just didn’t make sense .. you have a cloud hanging over your head in guardianship..you are doing everything for the child and can’t have the child completely🤷🏾♀️🤷🏾♀️🤷🏾♀️..We chose closed adoption..🙌🏽🙌🏽
Hi Kim! I adore your family and your videos! You guys always make me smile. I have a question. How do you tackle difficult questions about adoption that Lizzie or Eddie may have? If applicable, asking about past family members or various differences between you and them? I hope my question makes sense haha. Thank you!
Nicole Richardson Yes, your question makes sense. 😊 I’ve always been upfront with them, so they don’t have any questions for me.... yet. But when they do... I’ll be ready.

Where are you moving to? Houston!?! You’ve inspired me to adopt from foster care as a single mom- Lets be friends :)
Simply Outspoken I am a 22 year old disabled...,- in after college I want to foster to Adopt to
I’ve been legal guardian of my 17&19 year old granddaughters 7 years. The 19 year old says she’s NOT leaving! LOL
I’m bio maternal grandmother.
Vloggness like u commented on
I saw that that too and questioned it too so thank you. I always wondered about fostering, adoption really enjoyed this.
Come to North Texas :-) Great schools and healthcare. And, it's warm, usually. Lol.

Kim calling out them turkey vloggers!! 🦃😂
You tell em girl!!
CatsAndPokemon 😂🤣
Kimberly Thanks for Sharing again. you're really funny on this clip while waiting on the bus
I live in Louisiana and yesterday it was like 80° and today it's like 50 we never know what weather is gonna be like
I'm in the Midwest. Sounds very similar, except one day it's in the 60's and then in the 30's!
Same in Texas!
I'm also from Louisiana. This morning I had AC on and shorts and by tonight I have the heater on with pj pants lol. Louisiana is def bipolar when it comes to weather! Lol
@@MenaMadeIt it definitely is!!
Keisha Ali, the same hee in Dallas, you wait five minutes and it will change lol!
I am so tired of the snow....I’m in Michigan and can’t wait to move to the west coast!!!!!🙌
I am loving this channel. I consider myself an auntie. I just love learning when u r teaching.
I’m a new subscriber I love watching this channel
I love vlogs like this! Please keep doing talking vlogs like this Kim!
Liking the video before im even 2 minutes in! Love that I found y'all!
Thank you so much for sharing your experience Kimberly
Just found this channel and wow. I love it. Immediately subscribed. Thanks for being here.
Hope you fel better asap. Sending positive thoughts and prayers for your fast recovery.
Thank you Ms. Kim for sharing an interesting and informative video. Take care and all the best to you, Lizzie, Eddie, Grandmom and Mrs. Christine and her family. Tina in Cali
You're a whole mood 😂❤️
Kim you an awesome mommy. Thank you for explaining the differences which I never knew. I'm a birth mom. However, a mommy is a mommy is a mommy to me. Beautiful eyebrows.
Also a foster parent from CT!
Yessss to your vlogmas comment 😂 I just watched a vlogmas day idk and it was thanksgiving. Like excuse me? So ya, don’t feel bad. It’s not even the same
I hope that you are feeling better and south Carolina good school
My sister and brother in law gave my parents guardianship of my niece for 2 years. My brother in law was going to med school in another country and they did not want their daughter to go to school in that country. So my niece moved in with my parents, and there was a temp transfer of guardianship for her to her grandparents. I know had to do both a legal and medical transfer so that my parents could sign all the school papers and make any medical decisions for her. Since my sister and brother in law were in another country, it would have been close to impossible to get a hold of them at get medical consent if there was a medical emergency for my niece.
My husband was adopted at the age of 11 and his adopted parents name is also on his birth certificate.
The United Statesaversal part CRACKED ME UP!! I love watching your videos! Lots of love from Costa Rica!
valeria barrantes 😂 LOL
You have the sweetest family! So blessed!❤️
I envy y'all in Connecticut if school gets cancelled over this much snow. Here in Canada there could be 50cm of snow and school would not be cancelled :(
As a fellow 🇨🇦, it's pathetic çancelling school for a couple of inches
U would laugh at us in Texas..if we have just a smattering of light snow the schools literally close down...it’s unbelievable! 😄😄
@@fancysfolly554
I love your honesty & sarcastic wit :)
Yay finnaly a new video
Yes. this girl here was so sick.
Aww I hope she is feeling better
Yes. I’m better. Finally.
I am so glad you are better
Not moving to Nevada is a good decision. They are so far behind.
Love NC! Used to live in CA. NC has warm beaches, cold mountains and everything in between :)
That’s smart they change the social security number
That’s interesting about the ssn. Since my son was a newborn and I had custody of him when he was born, I didn’t get his ssn until after he was adopted.
Yes been waiting for a new video! Hope all is well with your family. ❤️
Hey, Kim thanks for this video!
I just wanted to comment on your jacket looks amazing! I do hope your fur is faux for fox sake!
Giselle Gonzalez Thanks 💜. And yes... it’s faux fur.
My cousin was born in Bogota Columbia. It’s the same for overseas adoption. ❤️❤️❤️
Kim you are so right! Nevada's healthcare and school system is very sad girl! I think Arizona would be perfect for you guys!
Instant like cos I know I’m gonna like it 👍🏻 Now to listen to your guaranteed pearls of wisdom ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
It's my understanding that there are some other rules for other areas, under certain circumstances. At least in Alaska if you adopt a native child you have to stay in the state for 5 years and in that time anyone from the tribe can "claim" them.
Happy Holidays to you and your family!
I hope to foster a adopt one day. You are such a blessing and motivation.
Feel better soon.
I think that some birth parents need to be evacuated

@@HoldenItDown thats not a bad idea
Kim I'm just glad to see you again I missed y'all and those gorgeous eyebrows of yours.
I’ve always been upfront with them, so they don’t have any questions for me.... yet. But when they do... I’ll be ready.
@@HoldenItDown Thanks for answering!
