    Hi Rick I do love 80 metres, I'm just buying the field next to my home, it's some 6 acres but only a cupule of big trees around the edges. I hope to have some fun building some big loops and long wires. Making and testing antennas is always good fun.All the best . . . . Andy

      Hey Andy,
      Dave is having a blast with the new 80 meters delta loop antenna. He also has a dipole 80 meter antenna so I am sure he has been doing a lot of A-B testing. Glad to hear you bought some land next your home, sounds like a great place for an antenna farm. Should make some interesting videos.
      Best regards Rick.

    My 80 meter loop is by far my all time favorite wire antenna. I feed mine with 450 ohm twin lead with a 4:1 balun close to my transceiver with just a short run of coax. Loads on every band 80 through 6 and I've had fantastic results with it over the years. Instead of putting the balun at the loop feed point, try my arrangement. I think you'll be a lot happier with the results.

    Loops are great antennas! My most effective arrangement has been a full sized vertical square pulled up into the big pines in back of my house. Fed at the middle bottom it acts like two dipoles in broadside. I use a 4:1 balun and it works on 80, 40 and 20; the even bands.

    Great video. I'm thinking about putting one up before winter descends upon us.
    Now, modeling this with software, I get a LOT more low-angle gain by feeding it 1/4 wavelength from the " corner". And the SWR is about 200 ohm's and a 4:1 current balun gives a good match.
    Feeding it on a "corner" gives me a cloud warmer. Feeding it 1/4 wavelength from the corner gives me a radiation pattern similar to a vertical.

      THANKS.
      Glad the antenna is working well for you. Also thanks for the information.

    I like his window sill antenna patch box, thats brilliant. I guess even with a real "Radio Shack" you still need a few more ways in and out.

    I have built countless loops for 75 and 80 meters make it a mono bander get rid of the balun and use a section of 75 ohm cable for a matching stub you will easily get a 1 to 1 match just by trimming the antenna or adding a little. If you want it to tune to any band using a tuner use a 4 to 1 current balun feed it with ladder line and trim the antenna to get the best match possible for the length the loop was cut for 3 to 1 or better. Usually 40 meters dont work to well on it but the rest work great.

    I did exactly the same - 80m full wave horizontal triangle loop up 22m. Pneumatic launcher - CSV 17, #12 copperweld, no balun, 450 Ohm window line straight to the side of the KX3. With 10w I had 5-9 across 3 provinces on 80m SSB. Super antenna. Oh also used plastic covered clothesline wire for over the tree limbs - strong and slippery. 73!

      From my experience on 40 m the feed impedance at the top of the apex is 100 ohms I have not tried 1/4 wave of 75 ohm coax stub in to 50 ohm coax but according to what I read it should do the trick.

    I made one for 30m and one for 60m. They worked great until the solid center conductor of the 75ohm 1/4 wave matching section broke, i need to find some other 75ohm coax or use a 4:1 balun.

    • @dambuster6387
      @dambuster6387 5 лет назад

      HI from Dambuster 4 to 1 balun is 200 ohms to 50 ohms unless it is 200 ohms at the feed point you will have a mismatch. I have used open wire feeder on my 40 METER delta loop feed back to the shack to a home brew balanced tuner that way you have a multi band aerial. The impedance of the delta loop depends where its fed.
