  • Hi Friends! Today's the day that I'm removing ALL OF MY RENTAL FRIENDLY apartment upgrades! I'm going to be removing peel and stick tile backsplash, peel and stick flooring, removing contact paper from cabinets and countertops, and more! I'll show you how to get the sticky residue off from contact paper and peel and stick tiles (I found non-toxic ways) and all the hacks I learned along the way! I'll also show you how to remove my rental friendly color block wall and wainscoting too! I'm super excited for this video because I really didn't know how easy it would be to reverse all of these DIY apartment upgrades, and I'm happy I get to share this experience with you!

I think the new renter could ask her to keep the changes - she wouldn't be able to reuse the materials and wouldn't have to have all that work.
The problem often is the real state broker that demands everything to go back to the original state - EVEN IF THE PLACE GOT IMPROVED.

When tastefully done (as in your case) and when it adds value - most landlords don’t mind. I’ve never had to “undo” my diys. After I decorated my sister’s unit - management started using it as the “model.”

My father ranted when I painted a wall in my flat and put up new lamps, because I'd just have to remove them and paint that wall again when I move out. Better not to change anything at all. Took me some time to realize that, heck, even if I have to paint a wall again, I wanna live comfortable and in a place where I feel like home, not like I'm squatting. Seeing what you did is next level and so refreshing. I'm gonna check out all the hacks now, YT randomly showed me this vid first.

Genuinely happy to see these actually being renter friendly. I recently viewed a flat with "renter friendly" sticker decorations on the wall. They were not renter friendly and had not been removed for obvious reasons (tenants in the process of moving out). When viewing flats, I only ever see the massive fails, because they're the ones that leave obvious trails that can't be cleaned up. I'm glad some of these hacks actually work.

This is completely understandable yet respectable. You understand your renters' point of view but at the end of the day, time is money. Renting is basically a business at the end of the day. I thought these renter friendly hacks were a complete no go but as long as it goes down at the end of the lease that's more than enough for me

    • @willsinternet
      @willsinternet 2 года назад +47

mcrchickenluvr But what about if they start to wear when the next tenant lives there? All of the "stick on" things look cute while new but aren't actual permenant finishes. If I moved in there and saw the tiles peeling up and revealing the ugly beige floors I would be mad at the landlord. Not to mention, land lords don't want to be constantly renovating things, which is why they make their apartments durable, not beautiful. This way they can look great tenant after tenant with just some basic cleaning, with some rare exceptions.

We rent a house currently, and I don’t care if they want to do stuff like this as long as they remove it and clean completely before they leave. I thoroughly cleaned the house before they moved in, it’s not fair to expect someone to have to put this much time and effort into cleaning up your mess that you made.

Hi Dalia! This was a great video, you are very talented!
As a person who works in the apartment industry and loves everything interior design, all of your renter friendly ideas are a 10/10! So so cute. You definitely went above and beyond, considering I never painted even just one accent wall in the apartments I've had in the past 😅
Anyways, just wanted to say that a little glue residue is not at all bad compared to some VERY dirty apartments we get back. Our maintenance guys and cleaners swear by goo-gone, so that would have been easy to take care of. The small marks of paint is not a big deal either, again, compared to holes in walls, etc. 🤣 I do admire your enthusiasm to get the apartment back to when you first moved in. Props to you. 👍
P.s. for any other DIYers out there, if you have laminate countertops, please do NOT use contact paper or a heat gun. I've never tried it, but I know how much those counters cost, so I would stay away from it. O.O Definitely recommend for hard counters tho 👍

Thank you for showing the amount of effort to remove everything 😂 My mind is made up and that is to never upgrade anything that I don’t own lol. Moving is already very exhausting and stressful. And doing all this extra work to make the rental home look like it was is just way too much for me.

AHH, I'm so excited for this video! 😍 I've been hating so many parts of my apartment for so long, my bathroom floor is absolutely garbage, it literally has old burn marks. I haven't bothered to do much because my kids were little when we moved in, but now that they're older I really want our place to look nice and coordinated.
We've lived in this apartment long enough I'm not worried about our deposit too much, I know they're going to remodel the unit anyway.
Awesome ideas! I'm excited to look back at how you put in a lot of this stuff too 💕

      Depends on the person.
If you take hit from your home and you are living there a fair amount of time then it is worth it.
I haven’t done much to the place I am renting now because I don’t have people over, I don’t care about things looking too good and I am planning to move soon.

Thank you, the finishes in your apt was pretty nice even without the contact paper & tiles. Thanks for showing us how you removed them. Now I know that I will not be doing diy upgrades, clearly a lot of work. I don't have patience for removing all the glue residue on floors, cabinets and the backsplash could possibly mess up the paint on my walls. Thanks ❤

As a landlord, I was always open to renters upgrading things as long as they asked first. The only time I had a problem was when I walked in to find an entire wall in the dining room painted screaming red as the renters had not asked, even though I had discussed the issue when they signed the rental agreement. They had already left without restoring the wall. It took me many hours of time, several coats of primer and paint, and even more frustration. PLEASE, always ask first and restore it when done.
