Phra Dan (Bhante Dhammarakkhita, Bhikkhu) is a Theravada Buddhist Monk who lived in India from 2020, Thailand and now Sri Lanka. Born in Sussex, England in 1967. Educated by French Catholic Monks. A successful businessman in Estate Agency and Financial Services during the 1980's and 90's. Married, now divorced with 3 adult sons. 2000 marked change and travel including South Africa returning to the UK in 2003 to continue different work and business activities until 2012. Gradually materialistic values turned to renunciation, simplicity and meditation, living nomadically in an old Ford Transit van full time for 3 years. Van life and meditation led to Buddhism and a Thai Forest Tradition, Theravada Buddhist Monastery in the UK. During 2015 travelling the Buddhist Holy Sites of India, deep faith reinforced desire for Ordination. In 2020 after 5 years of intensive meditation practice between Thai Forest Monasteries in Thailand and England he was Ordained in India where he lived for 3 years until returning to Thailand in 2023 and now Sri Lanka.

Thank you for answering my question, I should have been more clear, my apologies. We were doing meditation where we focusing on the breath. As I was focusing I felt my consciousness leave my body. Maybe I was just experiencing depersonalization
    And happy birthday!

@@Mevlinous I wouldn't say so. It felt more like I was observing my breath from outside of my bod. More like my consciousness existed but it was in the space around me rather than inside of me
It is a really weird feeling lol

@@BanAaron good luck, I’m not sure it’s appropriate to discuss this topic here, but you seem to be on the right track, maybe just trust the natural unfolding.
It’s special what you describe, just go with it and don’t worry

Speaking of offering flowers, once when I was visiting Thailand, and had little understanding (even less than now!), I went to a temple to see what was going on. I followed what people were doing to be sure I did the 'right thing'. I paid a few bhat for some plastic flowers and placed then in a recepticle in the front of the Buddha statue, did some kneeling and bowing.
Later, I watched as one of the temple staff (not monk or nun) removed the flowers from were people had placed them, took them back to the stall outside to were we bought them in the first place, in order to seel them again!
I remember feeling at the time that this didn't seem to be in the spirit of the whole Buddhist thing!
As you say, there's really no need for that sort of thing.

Is creating aversion to the objects of defilement the creation of more suffering? If aversion = suffering.
And is there a more skilful way by deeply seeing the impermenant nature of the object of defilement defilement?

Bhante, would you be willing to explain what gathas are about, and what if any experiences you've had with using them? I have heard that they can aid in meditative practice, but admittedly I haven't found that much written on them in English, such as when they are appropriate to use, what is an appropriate type of Gatha, and so forth.
