Man I've watched this guy for years, he's literally THE guy that got me through everything gardening, been about 5 year's , and I won't stop. I wish he socialized online though, it would be more educational getting into more questions, and it would make more videos . Gluck John , you're definitely the best on RUclips!!!

Thanks so much for making this video! I am surprised you have Rollie pollie pill bugs in a desert, I thought they were semi aquatic and only a problem in wet coastal regions. I have aa serious problem with them eating my strawberry crop every year! When we have heavy rains, they also eat corn and tomatoes and beans and peas and pretty much anything they can find close to the ground.. sometimes they climb up plant stalks to feed after a rain. Some people think they are strictly decomposers, but this is not so, when it is wet, they will eat many fresh crops. The only thing I can do to reduce Rollie pollies is to keep things drier and use less organic matter. I am sorry you have this problem, but it it comforting to know that I'm not the only one with this issue! It seems to be somewhat uncommon of a problem. I garden in a swamp, so I have weird things eating my crops. Thanks for this video, John. Cheers!

Hi John, I recently posted a picture of my moringa on I want more Moringa Facebook Channel and I live here in Glendale Arizona. I was gifted this moringa tree. I chose the wrong spot and it gets a little too much shade I think but it has never gotten huge it's been in the ground for almost 3 years and I have eaten most of the leaves off of it every year the first winter I thought it was dead but Dave Stone of I want more Moringa suggested that I just keep watering it and giving it nutrients which I did and late spring last year up came to shoots from The Roots which have grown 2 about 6 foot tall then I cut it down last fall and this spring it grew one side two about four foot in the other side about 6 foot this is the first year that it has gotten any flowers or pods. Laughingly it has three pods which I had to eat one when it was about 6 in Long it was so tender with an earthy peppery taste I loved it one pod a family member ate. The pod I left to grow in about a month and a half it is approximately 1 foot long and as big around as any of them that I have seen it's very nice sized easily called a drumstick. Just hoping this will hang on throughout the summer until it dries out hoping for seeds. I have thought about moving it to a sunnier spot but I think I'm just going to plant some seeds and put them in the sunny or spot and see how I do. I do love your videos and I have learned so much over the years from you. I am a really slow starter but finally I'm on my way. hopefully I will finish out like a tortoise have a great Fourth of July John thank you so much for all that you share.

I loved the garden tour!! Question. Have you thought about growing some clumping bamboo in small sections to try and provide a natural shade? Do you think that would work? It’s like your speaking a slightly different language. Do you have a gardening for dummies class? I don’t know what most those are or how I’d use them. I like your desert growing info, but literally how to plant, what to plant, how to take care of them, how much water, how to trim, when to pull. How to prune, do you need to feed plant food? What soils and stuff in soil. It’s very overwhelming as I’ve never done particularly good with plants and I really don’t want such an overwhelmingly big garden. Just a kitchen garden, herbs, cooking veggies, and some greens, oh and I found out I live loquats. This desert heat and hard dry dirt is quite a challenge. Doing good with agave and aloe but I can’t even seem to keep rosemary. Thanks for all your videos. I’m starting to slowly absorb some info I think.

I live in Vegas and mine is Zone 10ish.
I still grow fruit trees and veggies and herbs.
With the help of shading cloth, my veggies and herbs are actually thriving.
Fruit trees also need shad cloth over it if it's still young or the area is super hot/full sun.
Also painting the trunk of fruit trees helps prevent sun burned from the Vegas heat.
Also spray an organic paint spray (diluted) on the leaf of fruit trees to help protect sun burned to new leaves.

Hey john this is unrelated to your video but last night my BF told me in his pesticide herbicide, etc. certification training that he asked about USDA Certified ORGANIC Foods. The Guy Re-Certifying my BF and the rest of his Arbor team said that when goes to big commercial Organic farms in California at midnight that their will be workers in the fields spraying wearing head lamps. And said that they just pay off the USDA ORGANIC Officials!!!! I buy only organic now due to a brain tumor I had last year and to hear this just angers me! How true you think this is!!!!???

    • @vahlla78
      @vahlla78 5 лет назад +2

Seems like someone would see people out with headlamps spraying fields and that would be reported to more than just the USDA, news outlets is where I'd go if I saw it. Who knows tho, the dairy and meat industry have been paying off the government forever. Just look at the only thing kids can get at public school to drink.....Milk. Which many of us, including myself and my son can't even drink, lactose intolerant. You can't even get water, it's crazy. I'm trying to grow as much food as I can for our family, not eating meat or dairy makes it a bit easier for sure. I don't trust the food from the store or where it's even coming from. Half of it is now coming from Mexico but listed as organic.

But I’m no longer able to keep up. So now I just grow organically for myself and my family and friends and whoever in need bc I can’t eat, can, freeze, or dehydrate it all!! I just love to grow!!! lol

      You are 100% correct!!
The label "ORGANIC" or "USDA ORGANIC" is not so organic in most produce and fruits.
Big farms uses chemicals to spray on their produce but would pay off the "Organic Inspector" to pass.
My cousin is a big rice farmer in California and he said that MOST (most but not all) big farms in California uses chemicals, herbicides, insecticides, and pesticides in their fields but would lie and say their rice is "Organic".
Same goes for veggie farmers and fruit farmers.
It's all about the money. These big farmers know that when it's labeled "Organic" they can sell for a higher price.
Veggies and fruits from Mexico are NOT organic even if the label say "organic", it's not.
There was a ducumentary on farms in Mexico and India that would use chemicals and herbicides in their fields but would shipped it into USA and Canada to sell under the label "Organic".
The documentary used to be free to watch on RUclips but I think RUclips deleted it.
