Congratulations on finding a treasure trove in a box Rodger. The box, paperwork and machine are all gorgeous and it whipped your saxony up into a beautifully manicured fluff. What was I? From 1937-1992 the vacuum that vacuumed almost every home around the world and did it extraordinary well for everyone.

As someone who does portable appliance testing non-insulated live/neutral pins are fine if the item is being used at home, if the item is being sold or used in a commercial environment then it's not allowed.

You could always have a hook 3D printed, i did this before with a hook that was missing. I then took the original to a paint shop and had the colour matched, it works relatively well

That's good to hear. Here in the US, there are very few appliance repair shops anymore. I don't even know of any in the area where I live. Everything is made so cheap and lousy now and people just throw things away as soon as they break down. Most people who collect vintage electronics or appliances as a hobby have to learn how to do repairs themselves.

I remember my parents having one of these when I was a child , and how heavy it was for me trying to carry it up the stairs! Great machine though

A stunning example Roger. Your unpacking takes me back to 1979 when I bought one of these priced £81.95 from the Co-op. I paid it over nine months. The original light bulb would be 25 Watts SBC

That was probably a lot of money back then. I was still getting pocket money in 1979 so a brand new Ranger would have been out of my price range. I had to make do with collecting leaflets and playing with any vacuum I could get my hands on.

I was 19, hence the nine month payment plan 😊. Equivalent of approximately £424 now. Until I bought my first flat aged 31, I had one classic hoover and then sold it on and bought another.

Amusing of it being up-graded with an LED filament bulb, but as to why the white paper isolating the bulb holder was not extended the whole length of the hood lens to increase the reflected light?
