Glass Gen2 at Deichmann at St David's centre, Cardiff

- Filmed in 2023. Another lift that I hadn't filmed yet in Cardiff is this glass lift at Deichmann shoe shop located on the upper mall of the St David's centre. Because this is on the upper mall, the floor numbering is wrong - it should really be 1 and 2, not 0 and 1. A few other shops on the upper mall follow that floor numbering. Anyhow, the lift in this shop is a nice glass Otis Gen2 (I think this is Selecta rather than Optima, but I maybe wrong). This lift is pretty efficient for 2 floors, goes at a decent speed and has nice brake clunks albeit slightly quiet, and a glass 2-speed door. In my opinion, this is a nice lift, though I do prefer the Luminas.
Ooooo i love the doors!
Yeah, me too 🙂
Very nice! Seen this lift before on an older video, glad to see it's still doing well! I rode one similar to this a little while back in a shop that sadly no longer exists, though the footage turned out terrible XD More lifts should use those full glass doors, they look really cool.
Thanks, yeah I think this lift is in great condition. I too quite like the door design, very similar to a glass Gen2 I've ridden in Switzerland 🙂 Is your footage of the lift you rode on RUclips?
@lovelifts1736 Yeah. Unfortunately not yet - the clips were very poor quality so I couldn't make a full video out of them, however they could come in the future as part of an unreleased footage compilation type of video.
Deichmann style Gen 2! Very interesting...
Thanks 🙂
Dang, that fast for just 2 floors?! Also, I just absolutely love the frameless glass doors! You don't see that very often on elevators/lifts here in the US.
Yeah, these Gen2's do typically go at 1m/s which is a great speed for 2 floors. I agree, that door design is really nice :)
Nice. I really love this lift, but it was broken on my last visit. The video looks so smooth that I thought the start was the start to a Jimwoodward1212 video from 2019. Last time I remember, the doors used to slam into the shaft when opening. The reason why it probably looks faster is probably because of the amount of glass of/in this lift. Epic! Btw do you plan to visit Bristol again? There is a Baptist Church in Broadmead, at the bottom of the hill from The Galleries, on Union Street, it has a 1968 Otis lift! The controller and call stations have been replaced though. I don't know what the new controller is, but weirdly, on all floors the call buttons are just down buttons. Replaced by Abbey Lifts (which come from Bristol, hence their name; Abbey Lifts Bristol). It's a very epic lift! I'd recommend (I might not've spelt that right as I don't type that word very much)! Great video!
Thanks, aw that's too bad it wasn't working on your visit. I think my phone has a stabilising thing in the camera haha! Yeah I think I see what you mean about the doors, they do like to clunk while opening! At the moment I don't plan on coming to Bristol again, but maybe some time in the year I may go. That old Otis sounds epic! Thanks for the heads up 🙂
