Mate. 100% agree. I owned 106 Rallye, 8v, 103bhp stock. Untouched as the one you present here. And I'd like to add, that the experience is uncomparable. You're feeling that you just belong to the car. It's like you're kind of your extension of yourself to the road itself. That's how I remember the 106 driving experience. It's rather crazy, isn't it. Just old french car, but man. It just gives pure joy and excitement. Not because of power, or anything "amazing" in particular. But as a whole it's just a masterpiece. So, I'm 100% with you and with everything you've tried to tell between the lines. ;) All the best mate!

I’ve owned mine for almost 3 years now, havent driven it yet. Full resto, rusty like yours and engine damage. Currently rebuilding a different engine from a Saxo. Can not wait…😊
Boat has already sailed on the 106 GTI. They're £10 grand for a really mint one. The small got hatch to buy before it's too late which is still cheap is the fiesta ST150. Heavier than a 106 but still analogue. We've got one.

Ive got a Y reg Sundance yellow gti its a little animal, gave a healthy 155 at the flywheel on dyno ive had it since 2017. Paid 2850 on 110k miles and I still use it daily! The other one is a R reg s2 indigo blue rallye i bought in 2012! love them both there awesome examples of 90s classic
Had a blue 97 plate 106 GTi 20 years ago! Fitted an ecosse ram air kit and Pug Sport Decat exhaust. Only car I’ve owned that sounded better was an E92 M3 with the 2.5 pipe mod. Have a 911 992 C2S now and still miss that little pug. Happy times. 😊👍🏼
I have the same love of these 106 gti, mine was french blue with the rallye stickers... brilliant fun little car to drive. Bang for buck...untouchable! I think the only product you could buy nowadays that gets even close to it is maybe a Fiesta ST
Prices are way too high, some absolute dreamers out there asking Rallye money for rotten gtis. These are sooo cheap to fix and maintain, crazy how these have been neglected so much.
Makes me wonder what do with mine? The plan was to turbo the quiksilver16v fitted the gti engine & disk beam few years back, the 106 i bought standed with no mot costing me £350 then won donnor saxo vts on ebay £500 then payed for a euc unlock £90 then fitted my 306gti6 brakes from my old 106, all in doing work myself kept the cost down, since the conversion, lowered 50mm race manifold straight through exhaust, flys goes of the clock 140mph.... now wondering how much its worth now?? Jamie you should come have ago in mine!! Sound like a rally car! 😳🏁🤙

Lovely car and colour.... incidentally I've been offered the chance of buying a silver 2001 106 GTI 1 lady owner from new in silver. Completely original however and its a fairly big however.... The car needs a full respray.... really faded paint and the front seats are worn to cackery so they will need to be replaced, 130k not the lowest milage but fsh, unmolested and she's just spent £1600 on it too and she'd take £3k for it. I'm just not sure.... full respray and front seats later , milage etc is it worth it ? I'm torn wether or not to buy it.... I love these cars! Plus the robbing government want £415 to tax the little bugger

Clio 1 16v is even better Then you have slightly bigger options like the 306 GTi-6 and Clio 2 RS if you want pure analog french hatch id say a 205 GTi or a Citroen AX GTi
I'm looking to get a GTI. Have a Quiksilver with 39k genuine miles on the clock. Standard apart from window tints and an amazing deep sounding back box. So if anyone fancies a swap with cash "your" way then hit me up.
@@HahaSully I don't know mate. I think its the 3rd lowest mileage Quiksilver in the UK. Fresh Mot etc....I paid 3200 last year. I bought it as an investment. But if a GTI swap came up I'd consider it. So I'm guessing I value it around £4500 at this point 🤷
@@19keverick91 for me yes.. i was never that impressed with the 106 after hearing all the hype.. i actually sold a 306 gti6 to buy the 106 and it never lived up to my expectations.. I’ve also had 2 205 gti’s 1.6 & 1.9. Out of them all the 205 1.9 is the one followed by the 306 gti6
I swapped a 306 gti6 for a 106 gti back in the day because of the hype and I gotta be honest I wished I never within a week of owning it.. they are good but I was disappointed with the straight line performance
I have both .... a 306 xsi and a 106 GTI :-), bumpy roads: 106, straight roads: 306. I hope I can find a 205 GTI to fulfill my collection. I know where I can buy a 205 xs but this car needs a lot of work
@@RonSummer the 306xsi and gti6 are very different beasts though.. the gti6 is 6speed but puts out 167bhp standard it’s a different engine to the xsi which I believe is around 135bhp. I have albeit along time ago owned both a 1.6 and a 1.9 205gti and they are fantastic I would love another but a tidy 1.9 is now getting pricey but I am big pug gti fan it’s just so sad that they have gone from making some of the best drivers cars to what I class now as some of the worst cars on the road
Compared to the 306, the 106 is the naughty brother ... I am toatlly glad to have a xsi in a really great shape (only 132.000KM, 2 prevoius owner, full stock, full service book,) The car is is almost like new, very hard to find a similar car.... Apart from this: a fellow here in my neighbourhood has a GTI6 in red so that I know the car, too. I think it is at the end completely unimportant which of these great hatches of the 90is you can get / drive. They are all great. The big issue is very simply: try to get even one ... @@pauldodds8312
Every time I consider getting back into 106 gti ownership i look at the prices of the cars and the mot history. Not for me thanks. If only there was a modern equivalent
Friend had one, got a lift one evening and shit a new Subaru Impreza off the road...... The poor bloke with Subaru worked in same factory as me (asked me following day what the hell)

As a previous owner of a 1.6 205 GTi, 1.9 205 GTi, an Mi16 205 GTi, a new 106 GTi, and 306 GTi-6 I respectfully disagree. The 306 was best of the lot.

I had a 1.3 rallye - great car. My brother owned a Clio Williams...to me that was the better handling car.
Used to see this one about when I Lived on the island. Wish I could take it!
