Note. Did anyone notice how this white liberals seem to throw these loaded questions with lot of emphasis put on women these days, especially when the Man is accomplished? The question should have been tell us about your parents?!
Sad
What is this flap?
The ninja Mask muslim women wear to cover their faces except the eyes. It is usually called " Niqab" (Arabic name). because it covers the whole face, when muslim women want to eat food, they either remove the whole ninja-thing or raise the down part of it just for the spoon to pass through which Wole sonyinka described as a "flap' .
It's the muslim women who cover themselves with attires from head to toe in public. She had to lift the veil to eat each time.
More like slavery to me
Niqab used by women to cover their faces.
@@leondreamer3361 Not when it is her choice and not forced as generally assumed.
So much intelligence and knowledge but yet no faith...truly faith is a gift to humanity
What's your definition of faith?
I love his talk on race, but on religion he presents very contradictory views, the fact that he thinks that all religions are oppressive is a very limited reductionist vision, the woman dress he s talking about is a marker of a religious identity, we should first know whether she wad forced to wear it or this was a choice, when we assume that her religion forces her to wear it, we are just ignoring the other assuming that his whole culture is a symbol of savagery, we have deprived ourselves from understnding his or her culture. This is what happened in Africans/west encounter. It is sad that knowledge did not broaden his mind.
We are give little knowledge to the situation but my guess is because this is in Abuja it seems to be oppressive and the choice that women are suppose to have when wearing a niqab or hijab is unknown there I think
A confirmation of his limitations as an homosapien like the rest of us.
If and only if it was a choice and wish for that woman, imagine how can religion control humans, wole is right religions are tools of evils, oppressions, and control having everything constant.
Wole might be insensitive to the fact that some religions have their own practices that they adhere to. Countries like France banned wearing of veils covering the face in public on the pretext of fighting terrorism. But isn't such an action discriminatory against people who choose such dressing? How would the French feel if eating snails or drinking red wine was banned? What may be attractive to one person might be repulsive to another
There is a difference btw choosing to live a certain way and systemic oppression
@@arezoi That's an oversimplistic view. The Western world has always dictated what "systemic oppression" is and forced its views onto countries of the global south. Unlike Christianity, Islam is not merely a religion but also a culture, a way of life very much like Judaism. For instance, some practices like paying dowry or arranged marriages seem repugnant to westerners but in countries of the global south these are common and widely acceptable practices. It seems it's only Western countries who get to define and decide what "systemic oppression" is.
This argument has been for a while and I don't think it'll ever go away. The west is sick of intolerance that it accuses others of. In most Islamic cultural setting, nuqab us a choice and not forced. In any case I long can one force a way of life without the so call victim rebelling at some point?
Is wole gay
No.
Dr. Carr Rude baby doctor! Don’t you know ‘jibiti’ is un-African? This is a Son-of-the-soil!
