I've been playing on this world for weeks, living in a mountain, and though there was Skulk everywhere, I couldn't find a city! This helped me get the mindset right on how to find it. I got out my regional map, got some torches, and went mining in a 100x100 grid at -50y. Ignored caves. Gathered ores I hit. Built walkways through caves. Kept digging through Deep Dark areas. I noted on the map there was another white mountain peak nearby the one I live in I'd never noticed, and sure enough, the city was under there. Took an hour or so.
Oddly enough, the ancient city I found was relatively close to the ocean. It wasn't under it, but it was a lot closer than I anticipated. Still under high terrain--it was basically a cliff-coast situation.

When searching for an Ancient City, always carry a zoom level 4 locator map or two around so you always know where you are under the mountain. Also the locator maps work in the Nether so you can see roughly where in the overworld the Nether portal will appear. No need to do hit-or-miss portals when you have a map. You only need to travel around on the overworld surface for a bit to pre-map the mountains being targeted from the Nether. (EDIT: Oh wow, Java locator maps don't work in the Nether. OK - they they to port that feature from Bedrock over to Java. They could even add a recipe for the cartograhpy table involving a locator map and echo shard to create a map that works in the Nether if Mojang doesn't want to make that feature free.) Also, on Bedrock Ancient Cities on shore lines next to oceans are just as likely as inland ones. The "needs to be dry" rule doesn't apply there.
oh the map thing is smart i never thought of that i currently have a couple spots in my survival realm that im looking for a city at, ill make sure to remember that tip thanks
I'll say the exception to how it spawns is on old worlds depending on the seed but anyway on my main after converting it spawned under an ocean no less. Been playing that world save on an off since like 2014.
My experience is that most cities are around drippstone caves, but then I started a new seed where all that went out the window. I checked with Chunkbase and it showed a city just 500 blocks away from spawn and a few thousand blocks further away a cluster of 6 cities in a circle. This seed also has a desert close to spawn with 6 tempels. -5792008899809711720 is the seed. My suggestion is to make a copy of your game and use spectator mode or chunk base to find anything really.
I used the caving method. I wasn’t able to find an Ancient City, but I came out with over three stacks of diamonds. You literally can’t lose with that strategy.
Yeah usually just finding a random cave near a mountain and just going deeper and deeper will give you mad stacks of diamonds, more redstone than you know what to do with, enough gold to barter with Piglins for a good amount of time and some enderpearls. And more copper that you definitely don’t need.
If u are too lazy to find a mountain peak, then try the nether portal trick, just a quick tip: 1. Dig down to y 5 or y 6 2. Break 50 blocks or 100 blocks away from your starting portal ( same with the 2nd portal or etc ) 3. When done check y cordinate, if its 6 then place the portal at y 6 ( remember if u are standing at y 5 go up 1 block and create a portal, bc at y5 the portal will teleport u to random places ), at y6 u always meet a cave 4. After that check the biome, if under forest, plains then go back create another portal until u find a deep dark This method took me 15+ times idk

Ancient cities have high or guaranteed chances to spawn under mountains that go up to at least y-level 125 with snow or stone on top under the mountain if there is sculk you have a high chance of finding one cause ancient cites are very huge and tall the width is around 200-250 blocks long and the height is around y-level -52 ~ -24 so be prepared with a water bucket for the fall if you dig straight down Hope this tip helped and be carful around the warden it does a lot of damage and you need full protection IV (4) diamond armor to survive ONE HIT

The Ancient City found by my friend on our shared MC pocket world was under the ocean. We had to find a small island that was sea level in order to start digging down. Luckily it was far enough away from our home town starter area for us to place a nether portal and make it a shorter trek.
yo wattles we need to know asap how to get bamboo blocks. quite a few of us are not seeing it in the new snapshot, and are confused on how to get it. something data pack is all we have heard
If you play bedrock, I dont reccomend the portal option. When you enter a portal, It spawns you in a few seconds before the liading screen goes away, and you cant see the mobs attacking you.
I personally have found 4 ancient cities on the DEZOcraft server while digging our tunnels underground. So far we have found totally 5 ancient cities one of which I have claimed to keep others from greiffing. They are not as rare as some players think they are. We figure that there may be at least 5 or more on our server. Maybe the seed is just lucky but we do keep finding the cities underground.
Another way to find an ancient city is to always try to find a cherry grove biome. If u find a small one, search for a larger cherry grove biome(should be within approx 300 blocks). After u find the cherry grove, dig straight down and BOOM! There's the ancient city! This is a guaranteed method of finding an ancient city.
@@ussopking4786 That's what I thought at first but I checked not 1 not 2 not 3 but 5 different seeds. There was guaranteed skulk beneath. Loot areas were in the large cherry grove biomes
So I started my world looking for a good place to set up base and then I find this huge mountain. Good views, Nice caves. I've already spelunked the entire cave by now so its completely empty. But in the process I found out I accidentally built my base over the deep dark. And I wasn't even trying to look for it
it doesn't seem worth it that there are shriekers in the deep dark cave and not only in the ancient city, imagine finding a cave filled with sculks and summoning a warden by accident and that's not even the ancient city yet. Totally worthless journey. If I'd be fighting something like the warden, it'd better be in the ancient city and not just the normal deep dark cave with sculks blocks
Considering I found an Ancient City that was close to a river I'd say it doesn't have to be completely free of water, just not near an ocean. (Randomly generated seed)
You should of made a quick disclaimer at the beginning saying “if you are killed by the warden via his sound waves all the items you are carrying on you will de-spawn” because I just lost all my stuff and I’m 28,000 blocks away from my spawn.
Yo when he said try and mine some of the Sculk blocks cuz it might hide more to the cave I tried it… My best friend and I thought we hit a dead end. But when I tried that method it led me to a whole new part of the cave with more Sculk blocks and sensors…😳
Okay I'm just have a question might be dumb but oh well I watch all your videos as much as possible if I get stuck on something I go back to reference it I'm thinking about doing a super flat world like you got I think it's cool that the stronghold still forms what about ancient cities does that actually show up on a super flat
Also, something I could point is that ancient cities aren't that rare, there are mountains with 2 cities within 300m, so perhaps, is using a map mod/api so despicable you would rather fly the world and make your map size go up to 20GB? Idk, but still, if you have mountains near your spawn, try there (unless your map is older, but you can always delete chunks)
I SPAWN IN CHERRY BIOME AND THEN BUILD MY HOME AND BUILD FENCES SO NO MOBS CAN GET INSIDE MY BASE AND THEN I BUILD A MINING AREA INSIDE MY BASE DIG DOWN AND THEN GOT A CAVE AND THEN I FOUND AN ACIENT CITY INSIDE A SMALL CAVE THEN MAKE SOME NOICE TO SPAWN SOME WARDEN THEN GO UP TO MY BASE QUICKLY😂😂😂
I may have been cheating a little but I figured out how do you see through walls in Minecraft so I just went to Y level 50 under my mountain in literally the middle of my continent and I found the ancient city automatically. Thanks Wattles

it doesn't seem worth it that there are shriekers in the deep dark cave and not only in the ancient city, imagine finding a cave filled with sculks and summoning a warden by accident and that's not even the ancient city yet. Totally worthless journey. If I'd be fighting something like the warden, it'd better be in the ancient city and not just the normal deep dark cave with sculks blocks
Trial and Error got my Memories when I in 7th class... Actually I am 8th class LOL 😂😂
Wattles 101 nice name tbh
I accidentally came across this in survival, it scared the shit outta me the first time
Trying to get a silence armor trim on an SMP where my friends banned the use of external tools like Chunkbase is a doozy.
DUDE, you're Milking This Structure!
Considering I found an Ancient City that was close to a river I'd say it doesn't have to be completely free of water, just not near an ocean. (Randomly generated seed)
Thought Warden was warm up and Endardragon is boss but after seeing this i should reach end city first than Warden what a drag ?😢
Is it just me or is his voice soothing lol
Okay I'm just have a question might be dumb but oh well I watch all your videos as much as possible if I get stuck on something I go back to reference it I'm thinking about doing a super flat world like you got I think it's cool that the stronghold still forms what about ancient cities does that actually show up on a super flat
new speedrun tactic is just getting a load of wool then digging down asap huh
Request: terralith review!! After trying it I cant play without it anymore
Maybe you could pieray an ancient city using mob heads idk
Thanks Wattles
ive spent endless hours on the last method, across so so so many different worlds, its driving me completely nuts and wasting all my fireworks...
Find the seed of the world then use chunkbase
WATTLES!!!!
I like how this is more of a tutorial how to keep your sanity and menta health-
the best method is a cool feature called xray :3
Mountain guide worked well
