I didn’t realize this game was made by the same studio that made Empire at War, which is one of the better Star Wars games ever made

I'd wish they'd finally make another one now that EA doesn't have an exclusive license to Star Wars titles. It'd be the most profitable title they've made since the first one way back in 2006.

    A few tips:
You can reinforce directly into trenches. Including enemy ones. You dont have to have them stood in the open before you send them into a trench.
Take more care with where your sending troops. You lost so many units in the first battle because you kept sending three units to one trench causing one unit to leave the trench and get shot to pieces in the open.
Conscripts suck. Theyre good to use as a cheap spy balloon alternative to die in a scouting mission but thats about it.
Theres ALWAYS 2 units in the enemy command trench. Dont send conscripts in because its a guaranteed death for them. Also you cant hurt it with artillery.
On the attack, pre-battle elite soldiers are well worth the cost.
Heavy artillery hurts. Light artillery suppresses. Heavy artillery is better on defense and softening up trenches pre-assault. Light artillery is better at getting your attacking troops into trenches as it stops more enemy units firing at you. Light artillery is also better at destroying machine gun nests.
MOVE! Keep moving. Especially when the enemy is suppressed. You could've easily won that last battle with how much supply you had and how little the enemy had but you kept all your troops sat around A not doing anything. And you could've taken A much earlier if you'd sent your units in to clear out the enemy trenches when they couldn't shoot at you because you'd suppressed them with artillery fire rather than waiting for it to finish before deciding what to shoot at next.
If an area is clear. Start getting units into the next area quickly. You don't have to move units one trench forward at a time in an overlapping formation. For example, in that first battle, you took B and around 11:15, stop worrying about getting units into every single trench slot by B and then sending single units over slowly. Start moving en mass into the empty trenches in the middle where you could've got rid of those guns a lot quicker and set up a good base to attack either A or the command trench.

Agree with everything you said. I would also add that another strat he could have employed was placing much more artillery during pre-battle and just spamming until the AI gives up from the losses. Once I figured out how effective arty spam was on the AI, I stuck with researching supply nodes, massed my units on the strategic map, placed heavy artillery up to a certain point, placed 6 infantry companies comfortably, and just let the shells fly until the AI had no supply left to send reinforcements. Then, I'd just select my 6 companies and walk right into objectives unless the AI surrendered before then XD

Would recommend using more light artillery in attacking battles. Fires faster and it is cheaper on supply

One thing you could have possibly done to help. When the elites were coming in and you still had plenty of supply, you could have used chlorine gas to get them out of the trenches for your guys to pick off. The way he was training them through there you would have costed massive casualties for 80 supply with little to no loss of men. Love all your content.

i know this is a video game, but the sheer brutality of hovering over your troops with an artillery barrage, almost clicking thinking they'd die anyway, and then not doing it because they lived longer than you expected

Whenever you move units on the main map, they are not available until the following month. Think of it as though they are moving during the month and not instant and not in position to join the upcoming attack while they also unload and deploy.

Ironically enough in April of 1915 at the 2nd battle of Ypres, which was the first case of Chlorine gas usage during the war, some records indicate as early as January. And going further back as 1914 of Germany using Tear gas in a war zone.

Bring Elite Infantry Corps when you go on offensive. They are more expensive, but they hit harder and are tougher than your standard troops. In a battle like this one you'd end up losing fewer companies and using less supply. Use more light artillery in offensive battles to suppress MGs and units. There will always be 2 companies in the AI HQ trench, so be prepared.

Elite infantry are pretty hardcore. Which is why you should use yours. It'd also be beneficial for you to research light arty for better suppression radius.

You REALLY have to stop sending 3 or 4 units to the same trench because they only hold TWO units. That is why your units keep leaving the trench, because there is no room for them.

Sadly the last patch made the enemy prone to surrender even if it does not have to.
And also if you hit x when you call in new troops, they will skirmish, and not hit those machine gun positions in column ;)

Do you know if there is any way to get cheaper gas attacks later in the game? 80 supply per attack seems like a lot. Only situation I can imagine it being worth it would be if you manage to hit several enemy units at once, perhaps even one or a few weapon emplacements, and cause all the enemy infantry to get out of the trenches to get shot up from your nearby trenches.
